Default Cost of Gamecube Games

Now I never owned a Gamecube, so getting the Wii and having the opportunity to play those games as well as other on the Virtual Console is a pretty cool thing. I've browsed the Gamecube library and circled a handful of titles that I wouldn't mind picking up.

What bothers me the most is the price of titles these days. At the majority of big name retailers here in Canada (Future Shop, Best Buy, The Source), Gamecube games that are new and sealed are retailing at $29.99 for the cheapest title, and these include the "Player's Choice" games, which I assume are top sellers. I'm interested in the game Super Smash Bros. Melee, but at $49.99 I'm seriously going to have to pass.

To you Wii or loyal Nintendo owners, does the fact that the Wii supports all Gamecube games mean that overall prices for titles can still be relatively high even though they kind of should not be? I mean, in the case of Melee, I've noticed that the game was released in 2001. Why it carries a $50 price tag today, nearly 7 years later, is beyond me. I'm sure the popularity of the title is helping that.

I've even hit up EB Games retailers, which is something I'm not a big fan of. Used Gamecube games are retailing at crazy prices. Mario Party games are being priced in the high $20-mid-$30 range, with the newer Gamecube installments in the $40 range.

While money really isn't an issue to me, it's kind of annoying to have to invest so much extra funds into the console (Gamecube controller, Memory Card, Gamecube games) just to experience that console.

In recent days, however, I have managed to get a little bit of luck thanks to eBay. I've won copies of Army Men: Sarge's War for $4.99, Enter the Matrix for $1.25, Crazy Taxi for $6.00, SSX Tricky for $2.25, James Bond Nightfire for $3.00, James Bond Everything or Nothing for $6.50, and James Bond From Russia with Love for $3.97.

Granted they're all new, some games don't come with a manual, or even a case, but I consider them to be fairly decent deals. I've tried to grab a copy of Melee, but damn, auctions for the game get pretty up there.

On a side note, I had no idea the Gamecube had so many James Bond titles. I'm ****ing pumped for the three Bond titles to arrive.

I've been trying to get Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door for ages but I don't want to pay anything over £17 or so. It's proving incredibly difficult.

Wow, here in the states, player's choice titles are 25 dollars. New. The used section is also awash with games ranging from 8 to 15 dollars.

Hereabouts, GC games shot up in price when Wii's backwards-compatibility was announced. The only one I've seen go down in cost is Resi4, and that's only because a better, and not particularly expensive, version came out specifically for Wii.

Most good gamecube games are 40 or 50 dollars.

I am having trouble finding certain games.

At my local Gamestation used cube games are around £10 - £17, they no longer sell them at my local GAME.

I was going to buy Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Metroid prime, Metroid prime 2, Battalion wars and Mario sunshine, but the only games from that list which my local Gamestation had were about 4 copies of Mario and just 1 copy of Battalion wars.

I will probably just buy the games I want off ebay.
