Default Connection issues

Hi,

A couple months ago I signed up for Comcast Digital Cable and got the high speed internet to go with it. Up until that time I was using the Wii wireless adapter from my main computer to download games on the Virtual Console. But ever since I got Comcast I haven't been able to connect and download any games. I got so frustrated that I bought the LAN connecter, as the outlet is right by my Wii anyway, but that still doesn't work. I haven't been able to download any games for months and it is driving me crazy. Has anyone else had this problem or could somebody tell me what is going on with my connection? The help page has not helped me one bit. Thanks

How does your connection work? Do you have a router?

I had problems with my Orange wireless broadband; my PCs could connect, but my Wii couldn't, so I switched the channel from 1 to 11 (or the other way around, I forget) and got everything connected with no problems. So it's worth tinkering with the settings, if you know what you're doing.

A quick Google search reveals that Comcast apparently doesn't support Wii connection. There's some discussion here:

Comcast Digital Cable must be in MS/SONY(/insert evol company here)'s pocket to kill the wii. I would have changed the isp if they arent serious enough to let the wii come online(WTF is with that, i can understand xyz's filesharing traffic but the wii?). They prolly have lootsa other "controlling" policies inn then too.

You used the right type cable? The Datel wii lan adapter wants a patch cable... Or have Enough Public IP's assigned to your account?. Did you try reset the router or whatever you connect's to and only have the wii online?. If it did hit teh internet you need more Public IP's (buy a bigger deal at the ISP that includes it). Or get a router that NAT's (share 1 IP to xyz connections). Should work anyhow (ISP's router/modem -> NAT'ing router -> wii). Ifnot they block the ports used by the wii and they stink... badly.

If all fails id say **** them and get a REAL ISP!

Peace

Edited to not generate confusion

I really don't know what a 'twisted cable' is. In Italy we use the name "cavo incrociato" (which has the same meaning), but it is the wrong one, because it refers to crossover cables.
So, Ethernet cables can be:

PATCH
CROSSOVER

And of course you need a PATCH cable.
Crossover are for 'true' LAN, ie: 2 computers connected together.

PS
My system is wired, and I had to buy that cable specifically for my Wii, so it IS a patch cable.

Might not help a lot but check that your wired connection is the one at the top, I had mine as the second connection and once it reseted itself and used the top one which meant I couldn't get online. Might not be it since it seems like it's the router or ISP but you can check at least.

I thought this was an almost obvious thing to check, but I noticed a very little tiny bug in the options menu.

From time to time I try to update the system software, most of the time there's no update available, and the systems inform me that on my Wii the most updated release is currently installed.
I don't know the reason, but every time I do this job, the systems automatically selects the first slot of the 3 connections. My home-wired settings are in the second slot, and I have to change it.

I think this doesn't look the case, too, but anyway this info may save a lot of headaches if anyone is experiencing connection issues after trying an update.

I had trouble with my connection untill i changed my wireless channel. Now i have very fast speeds and no drops.

Use channels 1 or 11 for best results.

I had severe connection issues (i.e. could not access network) when we were still using my roommate's outdated Linksys wireless router. What a piece of junk that turned out to be.

Ever since I got my Airport Extreme Base Station things have been going silky smooth - not to mention internet access in general became a whole lot snappier. Works just fine on our Comcast connection.
