Default confessions of a sonic hater

I decided to put this on the current gen. since sonic is pretty much on every system. Now as you imply on my name I hate sonic with a great passion. But I secretly like the ORIGINAL RETRO sonic. The cute little fat melon body. The way he taps his foot in an inpatient way when you don't move him for a while. He is adorable. Now i would like sonic if he still kept the old 2d ways. Pretty much all his 3d games suck. Yes i know about sonic rush but i would not spend my money on that for the ds. I am hoping this sonic unleashed goes back to the 2d ways. Do not call me a hypocrite. Im shure you all have your secret video game favorites.

The 'classic' Sonic vs 'New' Sonic debate is as old as 2D games vs 3D games debate. Well actually, not as old since Sonic came out of it, but you get my point. They stem from the same thing.

My advice to you is to go play Sonic Advance 2 for the GBA. Its my favorite Sonic game, even more than the old ones (yes, you'll have to accept that). The game is a 2D Sonic game featuring Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and a new character named Cream (who plays like Tails and Sonic combined...although vastly overpowered).

However, with this many 'retro' Sonic fans get mad as the point of that game made Sonic more about speed and less about platforming. But since your main complaint seems to be aesthetic and about it not being 2D, I think this game, and possibly the other Sonic Advance games might be up your alley.

If you don't want to do this, then I think you'll have a LONG wait till you get another fun Sonic game, or you can just wait for the Sonic Bioware RPG like me.

So what? If you don't like Sonic games then don't play them, simple. And you can't say you want more 2D Sonic games if you refuse to buy the 2D games there are.

I wasn't about to pick up Sonic Rush for my DS either. But when I saw that it was only $20, I grabbed a copy. The game totally surprised me. It's the best Sonic game that I've played since the Genesis days. It's totally faithful to the old school but with updated visuals & audio. I especially like the theme to level 2 which is a take off of "Louie, Louie."

I've had a love/hate relationship with Sonic for years.

I really don't enjoy playing them, but I keep going back to it. I think that I must somehow believe that I'm missing out on something great, so I keep giving it more chances, only to go... yup. Not fun.

I once owned Sonic 1 (on Genesis)... didn't like it, sold it
I have Sonic 1 and 2 (on Sega Genesis Classics)... don't like em!
I have Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (on Dreamcast.. copies not originals).... don't like em!
I bought and sold Sonic Rush (on DS)... didn't like it!

Saying that every now and then I go and try to play them again (especially the Dreamcast ones). Go figure!

As a fan of the Genesis Sonic games, it's been painful to watch Sonic lose his way in recent years. The levels have been reduced to linear roller-coasters floating in the sky when they used to be complex areas with multiple routes packed to the brim with secrets. The aesthetic has gone from a bright blue cartoon hedgehog smashing robotic crabs and bees on hillsides adorned with checkerboard patterns to a more awkwardly designed blue hedgehog smashing generic sci-fi robots in realistic environments. The games have become glitchy, unpolished, laden with unnecessary features, and, in short, have just become really terrible.

It's a sad state of affairs when the Sonic Rush games, whose gameplay consists largely of holding down right and the Y button, are the best things to come out of Sonic since the original Sonic Adventure.
