Can you go online with PS2 games using PS3?

I know there arent that many online games for the PS2, but there are a few i would like to play, namely Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2. because PS3 is backwards compatibile, i sold my PS2.
ive asked alot of people and nobody can give me a difinite answer, so ill try my luck with the forums.

Can you go online with PS2 games using the PS3?

i dont want to buy an online game to find out that it doesnt work, so please give me any insight, rumor, first hand, second.
Also, outbreak had unbarable loading times if you didnt have a hardrive for the PS2, but if it does play on PS3 (which has an internal hardrive) does it load faster?

Yes.

But some games have problems.

Goto the official Sony site's back catalogue list to find out if a game works or not.

U.S and EU both have sites.

What PS2 games are you looking to play online? I wasn't aware that there were many viable choices for onling gaming with the PS2. Only game I ever played online for it was Midnight Club II. Best midnight club and one of the best racing games period on PS2. Online wasn't all that special though as only a handful of people joined in on the fun and there were only like three gametypes to begin with.

Killzone, Megal Gear Solid 3 Subsitence, SOCOM, FIFA, and a few other biggies have online.

Never played any PS2 games online, but the PS3's online is perfect. With Warhawk there's alsways a game going and NO LAG!!!

Even if you're in the EU, using the U.S one can be a good idea. Because they update faster. And by this I mean, when you do a system update, they tell you what games work before the EU site does. Because the EU site is still on 1.80, and we're at 1.93 now.
