Can i play ps1 games on psp thru ps3?

I have been hearing about ho it's possible to play ps1 games on a psp by burning a ps1 game to ps3 and transmitting it wirelessly to psp? can someone clarify or give me a link explaining this?
I want to find a good way to play my FF7 and FF8 without having to look for a old ps1 or ps2 (I got rid of them a long time ago!). I am really considering buying a PS3 and PSP just for this when I get my Tax refund!

I think you can, but I'm pretty sure it's a one of those things, where you can't do anything else. Because as soon as you exit, you have to transfer it again.

Not 100% on that though. I think IGN had something about it though.

PS3 has downloadable PS1 games from the online shop. Once downloaded you can play them on PS3 or PSP and like the VC new titles are being released every now and then. as far as im aware you cant play PS1 games you have on a disc on PSP.
I could be wrong on this since i dont own a PS3. But thats what ive heard.

I think I remember reading about this on CVG...

It's something to do with leaving a PS1 disc in the PS3 and using the PSP's remote play option to stream the gameplay. (I'll try find the link later when I'm using a pc instead of psp internet)

Right, I'm on a Laptop now. So...

Not all PS3's have backwards compatibility, so you'd need to get a 2nd hand 60GB one. Not all games work on them, so you'd have to goto Sony's EU or US site to find out if FF VII and FF VIII work.

The way it works is with remote play. I got my first remote play game last night (Pixel Junk Monsters. It rocks!).

You link both consoles via WI-FI and then select the game on your PSP.

If you switch off the WI-FI, your game ends. If you try to do anything else on either PSP or PS3, your game ends. If you go too far away from the PS3, your game ends.

So basically, in able to play FF VII and FF VIII on the PSP, you have to be within 30FT of your PS3 with your WI-FI on. And the games are VERY quiet (Meaning that in able to hear them, you have the crank the volume right the hell up).

So... You PSP battery would last 2 hours tops. And you'd be wasting tons of energy with your PS3, so your eleccy bill would sky rocket.
