Default C64 in US

Why isn't the Commodore 64 in the US Virtual Console? I guess that would just make to much sense.

Probably the same reason we don't have the meaga mans or vectormans yet. Lazy Nintendo.

I thought it had more to do with the console's popularity in Europe? Nintendo may be hoping that as games are released in Europe, they'll get free word-of-mouth advertisement over in NA, where gamers are less familiar with the games?

A European C64 runs slower than a US one (50hz vs 60hz), and there are other significant differences in the emulation - it's not quite as simple as just recompiling it. Then there's the ratings to be re-done, the localization, in-fact loads of other things to consider.
Also, is the C64 in Europe returning enough revenue? There's little point wasting effort on a US version if the returns aren't good enough.

The C64 was huge in North America as well. The C64's role in the console market is of course complicated a bit by the Crash...

They re probably testing to see if enough of us will download C64 games before giving the US and the rest of world the same pleasure.

The C64 game libraries between the two continents are very different, and although I'm probably biased, the European C64 games scene was superior. So perhaps that's why we're seeing it in Europe first? A recognition of the machine's status as a gaming platform?

Also, the people behind the C64 Virtual Console are based in Germany, so it makes sense for them to be releasing it in Europe first.

I buy both of these explanations.

This was kind of before my time, but didn't the game development for the C64 in US die along with the video-game crash back in the early 80's while it kept going in europe? Or have I completely misunderstood this

I think it would only be fair if US got the C64 games aswell, but maybe Nintendo fears that they wouldn't get many downloads at all because of the crash and it's loss of reputation in comparison to europe. But then I think that downloadable games should be global anyway so all regions have the same library of games, regions are the work of the devil

I think the bigger question is why Australia and New Zealand haven't seen any Commodore 64 games yet. From what I've heard, the C64 was released over here, so why are we seeing a repeat of the TurboGrafx-16 problem?
