I've seen Breath Of Fire II once when a friend of mine borrowed it from a videogame shop.
Anyway, I never came around to play this actually.

Some questions to make my decision to buy this or not:

1: Are there random battle encounters?

2: Is the Engrish translation really that bad?
Can you make bad decisions because of this?

3: Can you miss special items or characters that you are not aware of?

4: Is the stroy as cliché filled as many other Japanese 08/15 RPGs or might it be an unique experience?

5: Has BoF2's gameplay anthing what other games don't have?

6: How is BoF 1 connected with BoF2?
Are there many cameos, characters from BoF1 in BoF2?
Is this part 2 of the main story like in Golden Sun?
Or does it have basically no connection just like the Final Fantasy games?

7: Is it worth 800 Wii Points? Or should I get Shining Force instead?

Yes

It's not brilliant, but it's not bad to that extent. It's perfectly understandable with the exception of one tiny bit (It's to do with the game's shaman fusing, if you ask for an explanation, it just goes straight to the fusing itself O_o)
3: Can you miss special items or characters that you are not aware of?
There's one character in the game who's secret, so you can miss that (I did on my playthrough on the GBA). I'm not sure about secret items, although there might be a weapon or two.
4: Is the stroy as cliché filled as many other Japanese 08/15 RPGs or might it be an unique experience?
It has some clichés, but for its time it was pretty unique, it focuses a lot on religion and corruption, and it has enough twists and emotion (Even through the not-brilliant translation) to make it compelling.
5: Has BoF2's gameplay anthing what other games don't have?
Shaman fusing! It's a little hard to explain, but it's something that happens at one point in the game, which involves upgrading your characters considerably. Plus (And rather oddly) you (indirectly) build a town throughout the course of the game, all through sidequests and the like. This plus two (I think, may be three) decisions to make throughout the game can affect the ending you get out of the possible three. Battles are standard turn based fare, but they've got a few bells and whistles (Each character having a special ability, such as one being able to tempt baddies to attack her, so other characters are unaffected)
6: How is BoF 1 connected with BoF2?
Are there many cameos, characters from BoF1 in BoF2?
Is this part 2 of the main story like in Golden Sun?

Cameos, yes. And characters? Sort of. But BoF 2 is set 500 years after the first one, so if you haven't played the first one, the only thing you're missing out on is things like name references. So despite a little connection, it's not on the scale of Golden Sun 2
7: Is it worth 800 Wii Points? Or should I get Shining Force instead?
I'd say yes to the 800 Wii Points question. It's got flaws, don't get me wrong, but it's a hugely rewarding, compelling little RPG, which you can't go too wrong with, especially length wise. As for Shining Force, get both I say =P
Hope that helps

Thanks for the advise, guys. Keep em coming. Pros and contras.
This game will be on my list, when I got new Wii Points.

There's a bunch of games I want to keep up with, including:
The Mystical Ninja, Shining Force, Wonder Boy, Gain Ground and Breath of Fire II..
And there's Super Metroid and Zombies expected every week. And Neutopia!
I should save money for 3 Wii Points cards! Ack.

But then again, next month: Super Paper Mario and Tingle DS!!
Nintendo's gonna ruin me.

Also just downloaded it and it's nice with a "real" RPG. Although I wonder why my party members are partly animals :/
I have never understood that, why can't they just be humans like the entire population that I've seen so far?

And the bad translation is rather fun sometimes ^_^
For example: the description on a bronze sword is: A sword has a long blade
:P

What's wrong with animal people? lol
Before I went into the menu I thought bow was a fat man who is mostly bald with hair like dog ears
then I realised he was a dog

Not that wrong with animals as party members. It's just that no one else that I've seen so far is an animal. So it removes part of the tension, as soon as I see a half man, or whatever I should call them, I instantly assume that he/she will join my party.
