The BEST GAME EVER!!! Project
Posted 9th April 2010 at 05:48 AM by Jogurt the Yogurt
After seeing all the hype and complaining about Ocarina of Time, reading endless debates about the merits and disappointments of each installment in the Final Fantasy series, arguing about the awesomeness or suckitude of collectathons or Super Mario Sunshine, I've decided to embark on a little project: I'd like to undertake a massive request for nominations for the "best game ever" on any platform.
You can nominate games according to whether you think they're objectively the "best", timeless/enduring, most influential, most fun, your personal favourites, etc. There will by no means be any kind of critical consensus on these picks!
THE RULES
NOMINATIONS: You may provide a list of up to 100 games. You're free to nominate fewer than that if you like. You don't have to post your whole list at once. If you wish to add more nominations, just make a new post. Double posts are OK, because I don't want to miss over a game you snuck into a previous post without me noticing.
SCOPE: This nomination process includes all video games, past and present, on any platform (including PC/Mac and Arcade cabinets). Be sure to mention which platform your game is on so I don't have to track you down and ask for clarification. Even if a game is virtually identical across platforms, feel free to mention the system you're personally choosing, for potential statistical purposes.
BEST?: You can nominate games according to your own criteria. They can be the games that you think are objectively the best, or your favourites, or games you feel are influential.
STATS: I'll be compiling very basic stats about the games and about participants during the nomination and voting process. All I'll need to know is your age and game release region (for most here it will be NA/EU, but we could probably have some HK/JPN/AU, etc.).
This is going to be a large-scale project with participation from members of a few different sites. The "home base" for this project is at the Virtual Console Forums, where several people have already posted nomination lists. Folks from The Scholars of Shen Zhou and The Backloggery will also be participating.
(You don't need to sign up at VC-F to nominate a list—send me a private message—but future voting rounds will take place there because there's a dedicated subforum where I can create a bunch of polls.)
I'm going to keep the nomination round open until the end of April to give everybody time to think of a good list and to provide a longer window in case someone who might want to participate in this doesn't see it right away.
