FFT: Elemental Master Run
Posted 15th August 2009 at 06:11 PM by Jogurt the Yogurt
I've been working out the criteria and limitations for my next Master Run through Final Fantasy Tactics. I've settled on a run that probably won't be too hard, but will be very interesting!
My party will be limited to Ramza and four generic characters hired fresh at the beginning of the game. Each of the generic characters will be locked into using abilities, equipment, and items of a particular element (Air, Earth, Fire, Water). Ramza will oversee them as a king of Yin/Yang Darkness/Light character.
I've gone through the game's ability and equipment lists, and here are the character specifications that I'll be using:
AIR: Feng (Male)
Abilities Allowed:
Gusty Wind (Geomancer)
Float (Time Mage)
Float (Time Mage)
Fly (Bard/Dancer)
Equipment Allowed:
Air Knife
Windslash Bow
Feather Boots
With his extremely limited abilities and equipment, Feng will certainly be an interesting character to use. He'll probably only become useful later in the game as a flying archer. I'm not going to be a wimp and allow him to use Lightning abilities—air and wind only!
EARTH: Tu (Female)
Abilities Allowed:
Throw Stone (Squire)
Earth Slash (Monk)
Carve Model (Geomancer)
Local Quake (Geomancer)
Sand Storm (Geomancer)
Soft (Chemist)
Petrify (Oracle)
Titan (Summoner)
Equipment Allowed:
Earth Clothes
Papyrus Plate
Tu has some half-decent offensive abilities (Earth Slash) and is notable for being the only generic who can wear armour!
FIRE: Huo (Male)
Abilities Allowed:
Demon Fire (Geomancer)
Lava Ball (Geomancer)
Move on Lava (Geomancer)
Fire 1-4 (Wizard)
Flare (Wizard)
Ifrit (Summoner)
Salamander (Summoner)
Equipment Allowed:
Flame Rod
Flame Whip
Glacier Gun
Flame Shield
Fire Ball
Huo benefits from being able to cast Fire spells, and with the Glacier Gun later in the game, he may be one of my primary offensive forces...
WATER: Shui (Female)
Abilities Allowed:
Water Ball (Geomancer)
Quicksand (Geomancer)
Blizzard (Geomancer)
Any Ground (Geomancer)
Ice 1-4 (Wizard)
Any Weather (Oracle)
Shiva (Summoner)
Leviathan (Summoner)
Walk on Water (Samurai)
Move in Water (Ninja)
Equipment Allowed:
Ice Brand
Ice Rod
Blaze Gun
Ice Bow
Ice Shield
Water Ball
Shui is probably the most well-rounded generic character. I'm also considering allowing her to use liquid potions (for example, Potions and Holy Water, but not Phoenix Downs).
Ramza is definitely going to be my most useful character throughout the game, from the early goings straight through to the end. His role as a Darkness/Light elemental character nets him some good spells and a pretty decent range of gear.
DARKNESS/LIGHT: Ramza (Male)
Abilities Allowed:
Cure 1-4 (Priest)
Raise 1-2 (Priest)
Reraise (Priest)
Regen (Priest)
Esuna (Priest)
Holy (Priest)
Regenerator (Priest)
Death (Wizard)
Blind (Oracle)
Life Drain (Oracle)
Zombie (Oracle)
Moogle (Summoner)
Fairy (Summoner)
Lich (Summoner)
Angel Song (Bard)
Life Song (Bard)
Equipment Allowed:
Assassin Dagger
Blind Knife
Blood Sword
Healing Staff
White Staff
Night Killer
Holy Lance
Black Hood
Holy Mitre
Black Costume
Black Robe
Light Robe
White Robe
Angel Ring
Cursed Ring
N-Kai Armlet
Yagyu Darkness
Ramza's most important role will certainly be as a healer, but the equipment options opened up to him by his added death and darkness effects mean he won't be totally useless if he has to attack. Even if I get the Holy Lance, I doubt I'll use it, since being a Lancer will close out so many of his armour options.

| | I was wondering how an Elemental setup would work in Final Fantasy Tactics. After finally reading through this, this is just brilliant! But I am confused with the Glacier Gun and Blaze Gun, why are they equipped on the opposite Elementals? Also if Shui can use Potions and such, does that mean Huo can only use Phoenix Downs? |

| | In the original translation of FFT, the names for those guns were screwed up, so the Blaze Gun is an ice gun and the Glacier Gun is a fire gun. I never thought of allowing Huo to use Phoenix Downs... it's not a bad idea, but I don't think I'll allow it. It's a little metaphorical, I guess. Right now, my main concern with this setup is that Feng is going to be totally useless. His only attack ability can only be used on certain terrain! Hahah, oh well. He can distract enemies... |

| | Haha, never knew that the translations got messed up, now it makes a lot of sense. I'm assuming you're talking about the PS version, but is it also screwed up in the PSP? So I guess Feng always wanted to "run like the wind". *bricked for bad pun* |

| | They were fixed in the PSP version. The PSP version changed the names of most of the items, equipment, abilities, places, and characters. |
