Default The Best Shoot 'em up's on the VC

What do you think is the best Shooting game on the VC at the mo'? or should I say "What console had the best shoot 'em ups?" that might be released in the future.
Personally I'd go for one of the R-Type's since I've got a few other games in the series but I only have Super Star Soldier on the VC. Need to get more but I'm not sure which to get next.

Soldier Blade and R-Type are definite musts. Also, Gradius is an awesome game.

I would go for R-type 3 or Soldier Blade depending on if you like horizontal or vertical shooters more.

I've just downloaded Soldier Blade and enjoyed it quite a lot. Still, what you should do is run to the nearest gamingstore and try to find Ikaruga for the Gamecube. It is the best shooter in my opinion and requires perfection of the player/s to reach the higher points.

But if you already have it, them Soldier Blade should be worth it's 600 points.

I found Ikaruga in a shop but still costs £20.

By the way I got gunbird special edition which (has gunbird 1 and 2) for £4 but you get it for as low as £3.

so I suggest checking out secound hand PS2 games since you can often get shooters for better prices than the virtual console.

Still £20? I bought it for that price almost a year ago (roughly translated to swedish currency) but I still think it was worth every coin. It's still one of the best games on Gamecube so I still think it's worth it

As far as I know the differences between R-Type 1 and 3 are that 3 is a little easier with flashier graphics and bigger boss fights. 1 is more challenging meaning it might last longer I guess. I've already got Super R-Type for the Snes so I'm gonna check out the TG version at some point.

R-type 1 is more challanging because once you run out of lifes you have to start the hole thing again in R-type 3 when you get the game over screen you can start again from the last checkpoint you can do this as much as want.
