Do you think Zelda TP is the best Zelda EVER!!!?

Tell me your answer.

I've never been a huge fan of the Zelda series, to be honest, but I really enjoyed Ocarina of Time, and to me, TP only improves on it, so yes, I'd say TP is the best so far.

I haven't played Windwaker yet though, and that may change my mind. :)

Personally I think Link to the Past is the best Zelda but out of the 3D zeldas I do like Twilight Princess the best, I loved Wind Waker too.

Heck they are all good! :p

A Link to the Past was my first deep aprroach to a Nintendo game.
I will never forget the times I felt suprised for something I never thought could be in a videogame. Was it plot developing or the many -super easy- ways to use a particular item.

It's one of my favourite games ever, so TP follows in a respectable second place, though I'm getting a bit tired of this gameplay, fortunately Phantom Hourglass is already a breath of fresh air, and the promises for the next Zelda are finally those of a NEW game.
I'm willing to see a game to be better than aLttP, I don't want it to be the best Zelda forever....

TP is the best. Not only did it improve on OoT, it revolutionized Zelda again.

I really hate when people compare TP with OoT, like in Gamefaqs (urgh!) because it just looks "similar"...

When I played TP was like playing A link to the past again. It gave me the same feeling after many years, and I didn't see any similarity with OoT except the obvious ones.

It's a hard choice, because Wind Waker is THE game for GC, but I consider TP the best zelda game to date (despite what OoT fanboys will say next)

OOT. TP doesn't even make my top 5. Hell, I think it only makes my top 10 'cause there's only been 11 Zelda games plus the CDI games.

I have been a huge fan of the zelda series ever since the first one way back in the mid-eighties and ive enjoyed almost every one since but for me TP was a big dissapointment. It just felt like a re-hashed OOT, and what was up with all that wolf crap? How pointless and boring was that? and dont even get me started on that annoying grey thing that followed you around the whole frickin game, she just got on my nerves. In my opinion TP gets 2/5.

It's the first Zelda I've owned (not counting Emulators) as I was a Sega guy, but its a great game.

I'm crossing the desert now and was shocked to hear after 30 hours I'm only half way through the game :-o.

Wind Waker - being the most original departure from the regular formula - would have won out if the ferrying about hadn't been quite as tedious at times (and the backdrops not quite as blurry). For me Twilight Princess is definitely the best Zelda game I've played so far. It may have similarities with OoT and LttP, but the environments, assortment of characters, and quests are substantially different from the aforementioned titles.

Playing as a wolf brought something new to the table. I kind of liked Midna, no matter how annoying she may have come across at times.

TP is good but dont really convince me that its the best Zelda

I'm not sure... Twilight Princess felt a little too easy at times. But it could be that I'm just used to the type of puzzles to expect in Zelda games... I've got to say that the contorl system is absolutely incredible, and I've never felt as involved in a game as I did playing TP.

I feel OoT has the edge of it though, the scale seems much bigger, and the difficulty higher..

Well, it is built on exactly the same game engine.

I feel OoT has the edge of it though, the scale seems much bigger, and the difficulty higher..
I find it interesting that you say that, because TP is clearly the larger game. The world is bigger and more cohesive, and the scale of the environments and the bosses is much greater than in OoT. It's one of the things I like most about TP; it took a well-realised, but rather cramped, world and expanded it.

For my part, I felt the addition of the wolf to TP was a good touch, and I actually enjoyed playing the game more as the wolf. I didn't think they did a great job of differentiating the light and twilight realms (something more twisted, like the netherworld of the Soul Reaver series, or the demonic world of Silent Hill, would have been nice, I think), but on the whole, I've found TP to be a superb game.

As for being "too easy", I still haven't managed to complete the hookshot mini-game!

As I say, I haven't played Windwaker, but I adore the graphical style, and if it's anywhere near as playable as OoT and TP (again, the same engine), it'll most likely supplant them in my eyes.

Are you sure about that? OoT seems rather confined to me. The world isn't nearly as big as in TP.

I agree with Dazza on this - A Link to the Past will always be my favourite Zelda.

I do find TP better than OoT though (Which I honestly find vastly overrated - It's a great game, but if you ask me all other 3D Zeldas + ALttP and Link's Awakening beat it).

First of all TP was much bigger than oot. Well I played oot after TP so it felt like a downgrade. But I think oot is harder than tp because of the extra stuff. In tp i thought there was to much money which you didnt need. But i have 4 reasons why tp is better: better graphics, better control of the game, bigger world and that crazy music that gets you all pumped up.

I had only really played all the handheld Zelda games up until got got Twilight Priness for the Wii which i thought was awesome, it was the first 3D Zelda i had played and its now got me playing Ocarina of Time on the virtual console which so far i think is great as well.

So far Twilight Priness has my vote for the best zelda ^_^.

For me, Wind Waker and Majora were the best.
Their worlds were full of "living" characters and many quests astray from the main game.

Twilight Princess wasn't all that impressive gameplay-wise, but graphically it's the best one.
And also it's got a nice batch of tunes but nothing as remarkable as Wind Waker, Majora and other Zelda games.

I was disappointed a bit cause there was too much recycling and it felt unfinished:
Not one single fish in all the rivers and that whole Hylia lake??? Why do I have a fishing rod??
And no instrument to change day to night? Why must I stop playing 10 minutes and wait before going on a ghost hunt?
Can't talk to Hyrules inhabitants? I always thought Link is the only silent guy!

Anyway, it's a great game but not the best Zelda.

The game did not improve thing's enougth and felt dated even compared to something like shenmue.

Is it weird if I say that all four 3D Zeldas are the best?
Twilight is technically the best and is the biggest, but Ocarina was more revolutionary and advanced for its time, but Majora had the most intuitive puzzles and side-quests, but Wind Waker had the best style.

So which one do I choose? Actually, on second thoughts I'll go with Ocarina.

Majora's Mask gets some bonus credit for being more original in its story. Rarely do you see a Zelda game that has nothing to do with Ganon or the triforce or the Princess of Hyrule. Majora's Mask branched off a vein in a new direction, which I liked.

I really would like to play MM someday. From what I've read/heard it could easily beats the pants off OoT, which I certainly do not consider the best. The latter may have revolutionized the franchise, but mere nostalgia doesn't make it the best.

In my mind TP is the best Zelda due to its sheer length and the enjoyment I got from playing it was only matched by seeing the series in 3D for the first time.
While I honestly never liked any of the Zelda's prior to ALTTP I must say that of my top 5 it would go like this:
Twilight Princess
Majora's Mask
Ocarina Of Time /A Link To The Past
Wind Waker*

*While I think the combat system in the game rocked, the sailing ****ed me off too much not because of the game itself being based in water but the fact that you spent at least 20mins sailing just to find an island you could walk around in under a minute

There are plenty of fish, in all the watery areas, even inside dungeons. Not sure why you've missed them.

There's a lot of good about Twilight Princess, I like the scale of the game, the setting and the storyline are all excelent. But the whole thing is let down by the dungeons being too much like Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, and as good as it was I couldn't help but get slightly bored with it towards the end. Which is a shame, had the other three 3D Zeldas not existed then TP might be considered the best game of all time, but as it is there's not enough new.

My favourite Zelda is still Ocarina of Time, I'll never forget playing that for the first time.

I don't missed them. I put the game upside down! I looked into every last pond, every little puddle!
And indeed they were a few minor places where you could get some fish. But most of them you could already get in the fishing pond area.

It's just... the whole giant Hylia lake is EMPTY!!
The whole hyrulian river is EMPTY!
The lakes in the forest: EMPTY!
The ponds with the guardian spirits: EMPTY!

There were just so many opportunities to make this feature better....
But they weren't used!

meh, not the best, Majora's Mask is the best 3D zelda game imo.

TP didn't really feel very rushed to me and the storyline was weak, and it feel apart near the end. Dungeon desigh was nice, nice items shame you only really used msot of them once or twice. lack of sidequests too.

The only thing that made me replay this game was glitching, because Thats why i do, I'm a member of SDA (Speedrunning site) where a bunch of us are into glitching, really made TP more fun for me.

Twilight Princess definitely has it going for graphics, sound quality, stuff like that, as well as scale. Hyrule Town has never looked more lively. My only complaint is the game tends to go on the easy side alot. The Goron mine boss, in particular, didn't even HIT me ONCE. It's so easy to beat him without getting hit.

13th August 2007, 01:28 PM
The dungeons feel rehashed and the difficulty is far too easy for the Zelda series. I actually stopped playing in the final dungeon because I was sick of Midna telling me how to beat all the bosses after I got hit by them once. Twilight Princess is actually my least favorite Zelda game (although I never played MM).

Is it just me or are ALL of the 3D Zelda games too easy? I mean, what's with putting fairies in the FRICKING FINAL BOSS ARENA in twilight princess? And in Wind Waker i could beat the giant puppet thing with my eyes closed. The puzzles are sometimes tricky but I really want the combat to be tougher as well. Are you listening Nintendo? Put a hard mode in all future Zelda games!!!

17th August 2007, 02:50 PM
The 2D zeldas are pretty easy as well.

In link to the Past none of puzzles are that hard and are usually very obvious compared to some of OOT better puzzles.

I twilight princess is the best zelda followed by OOT, Majora's mask(for such a branch off from the traditional zelda like no ganon and stuff like that) after that would have to be link to the past for the memories I have of it as a kid and then zelda 2 and finally links awakening for the time I had beating it on my old green screen gameboy back in the day when it first came out. Long before the days of the super gameboy or gameboy player.

Well I've only played Minish Cap (GBA) and Ocarina of Time (N64). I could take or leave Minish Cap but I think Ocarina is amazing. I've just ordered Twilight Princess from Play.com on the strength of loving Ocarina so much. I've only just played Ocarina for the first time by downloading it on Virtual Console.

I love the way these Zelda RPG games do away with the turn-based battles. That's the only thing stopping me from playing RPG titles. The turn-based battles become tedious as they force you endlessly to repeat the same thing over and over again.

jesse1596
20th August 2007, 10:09 PM
The bosses in TP were very easy I totally agree, maybe I'm just used to zelda to much but I did not find any of them a real challenge. Ganon in giant pig thing mode ****ed me off but I was doing it wrong, once I figured it out I was fine. I did think though the final battle between ganon and link was awesome.

I haven't done the cave or ordeals yet. My brother did and I think his game screwed up or something or he did with 1 last enemy to face and had to do it all over again. I heard its incredibly tough but it doesn't seem like the reward is worth it. I got one bottle of the stuff from the guy frozen in the town and used it and did not notice a big difference.

The shoemaker

Well If you want to beat the game it's rewarding but if you go in hopeing to get a fabulous reward its not. If you want to improve your fighting skills get all of the poes all of the bottles, unlimited ultimate potion and unlimited fairys you'll wanna go in. BUT BE PREPARED!!! theres no place to get items, the enemy's don't drop hearts and theres NO place to save! There is a way out without making it all the way, but you have to start over. And don't go in without the double claw shot. So ANYWAYS yeah I'd say it's rewarding.

Oh yes, Link's Awakening. That one is probably the most overlooked good Zelda game. It really is one of the very best Zelda games. Maybe I have a softspot for it because it was my first game ever but it really is just special. It has some of the best characters in a Zelda game, I wish they were fleshed out some more. I think that is the reason I like the stranger Zelda games so much, like Majora's Mask.

No, I don't think Twilight Princess is the best Zelda game. Its a fine game and quite fun, but it didn't do what a few games before it had done.

It did establish a dark feel for a Zelda game. Darker than any Zelda game before it in many ways, aside from maybe the actual underlying plotlines, which Wind Waker takes the cake itself. But it took the established Zelda formula and broke free a little of it, spinning its own tale (as the current team doing the Majora's Mask/WW/Twilight Princess seems to do pretty well) creating a tale that seems like a Zelda, but also like a separate darker fantasy story separate from the normal Hyrule world.

But more importantly, the characters, atmosphere and plot of Twilight Princess was more fleshed out than any Zelda before it. This helped and hurt it though. It hurt it because it made it more story driven and longer than some people liked. And if you didn't care for the plot or if you didn't pay attention to the plot, you might think other Zeldas plots (like Ocarina or Wind Waker) were bigger. But it also created one of the best and most character driven characters in a Zelda game no question. Midna.

Still, the game falls short of other Zeldas for 'revolutionizing' the Zelda formula or the 'gaming industry'. We can't say this is the 'next Ocarina of Time'. It was trying to just be Ocarina of Time 2.0 and it did that well. But just because it was trying to be Ocarina of Time 2.0 doesn't mean it surpassed it. Its not like Mario Galaxy and Mario 64. It was trying to be like that, but didn't quite make it. And it didn't come swooping into a brand new market or forgotten market like the original Zelda/Link to the Past and blow everyone away.

The game is good and fun, but its just not quite an Ocarina of Time/Original Zelda or in my Opinion as good as Link's Awakening.

Estrada
6th February 2008, 12:33 AM
The 2D zeldas are pretty easy as well.

I have to respectfully disagree. The original Zelda (NES) may seem a bit easier now that many of the puzzle themes used in that game have been re-used and expanded upon, but when it was the only Zelda game around it was quite tough. There weren't many other games like it at the time, and that novelty made it particularly easy to get stuck and have no idea what to do next for quite some time (those old men were useless).

Zelda II (NES) was hard, period.

Perhaps it's all a matter of perspective, but if someone played the original 2 NES versions when they came out, I doubt they would classify those games as easy (at least with respect to the era, though I'd argue Zelda II is still a difficult game by today's standards).

As for the topic, I really like Twilight Princess but my personal favorite is A Link to the Past (though I'm probably biased by nostalgia).

Too* big? How can a game be "too big"?

Simply put, the areas that are fun, more polished or you want to play more often are spread apart by long periods of wandering across a world map, pointless puzzles, randomly inserted side-quests, random battles every 2-3 steps, random dialogue that goes on forever and makes no sense. Take your pick depending on the game.

All of these periods making the game much longer and 'bigger' than it should be when the normal actual good content of the game would have sufficed.

That's the difference between Ocarina of Time and Twilight. Twilight is still a great game, but where Ocarina is a masterpiece with about 35 hours of epic win and 3-5 hours of 'tasks' to perform, Twilight Princess is about 20 hours of really fun Ocarina style OMG SWEET moments with about 20 hours of Midna and 20 more hours of '................................................. .......finally I'm done with that'.

I also prefer a big over world. It adds more fun than in ocarina where it takes you 30 seconds to get from the castle to the desert. twilight seams more real and has a better atmosphere. And I love a good story. Twilight is my favorite, but I havn't played MM or some of the 2D ones.

Also the big over world lets you actually roam around with Eponia.

I'd say Twilight Princess is the biggest and best story wise.
As far as my favourite though, I have to give it to OOT just because that was a huge game during the peak of my gaming years and I'll always have a soft spot for it, even though TP beats OOT on every level, it still won't replace the love for OOT in my heart (aww). The only thing I wasn't huge on was the whole wolf/twilight realm thing... which is a huge part of the game haha so that kinda bunks my whole argument. But in terms of core Zelda mechanics, TP is the most refined.

I remember the first time I played OOT and the initial wow factor, TP didn't have any of that for me. Instead TP just refines everything about OOT that I loved.

In second place would be Links Awakening followed by LTTP

...what?

Zelda IV is Link's Awakening. Wait, were you saying you didn't understand what Zelda IV was or that it was crazy to rank it only as the 3rd best Zelda game? "What" isn't very descriptive.

Also, can we get the minimum of ten characters per post rule out of the way so we don't need to put filler text in or anything? Sometimes one word conveys a message better than a sentense.

He was probably just confused because the Zelda games (other than II) aren't normally (or officially) identified by their numerical place in the series.

Judging each game on its own, with the nostalgia goggles off and giving no extra points for being ahead of its time when it came out - in other words, looking at each game as if it was released today - yeah, TP is probably the best. But it's not nearly as groundbreaking or amazing as LttP or Ocarina were when they came out, so it feels really strange calling it the best Zelda game.

heres a major dent in TP side i didn't think of before:
I was thinking of replaying the game today... then I thought about how much of a chore it was to unlock all of Hyrule field or to even get to the first dungeon. I hated all the crap with the dog and collecting all the little tear drops to get rid of the shadow. That just wasn't for me, and thats why I was turned off of replaying the game...

I think my next Zelda game is going to be Wind Waker, a game I have yet to play :)

I love Wind Waker, but it's a little too easy to complete. The sailing is extremely tedious though and would put me off playing through it again.

Even though lots hate it, the art style is my favourite part of the game.
It's just stunning.

I liked Wind Waker and I absolutely loved the artistic style of the graphics. At the end of the day sailing around on the open sea just isn't as interesting as exploring a huge Hyrulian landscape, but everything else about it was tops.

I played through Phantom Hourglass which had its share of sailing as well, although I don't know if one games version is less annoying than the others?

And I haven't played Phantom Hourglass, so I couldn't tell you. Really the sailing in WW is fine; it just isn't as fine as riding Epona over a vast Hyrule field, since endless ocean is inevitably not as varied or interesting as a sprawling countryside. But don't let that stop you from playing WW which still has plenty of great locations and dungeons.

I only played a few Zelda games in the past (because I'm old and didn't get the N64), so when I got the Wii I decided to go back and replay the console Zeldas in order. So far I've finished The Legend of Zelda first and second quest, The Adventure of Link, and A Link to the Past.

Unfortunately, I don't have easy access to Link's Awakening, which is why I'm sticking to the console versions for now (I will probably go back and play the handheld versions in order later).

So, so far I've only just replayed the games I had already played before. But I haven't played Ocarina of Time before, so it'll be a new experience. I own both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess but I've been putting off playing them until the right time.

And I'm hoping Majora's Mask comes to the VC by the time I am done with Ocarina.

Anyway, this is all by way of saying that playing them all in order like this really gives one an appreciation of the different advancements and developments in the series.

OOT was def a game that was so huge just because of the time it was released. It still carries the same affect for me (i'll always have a soft sport for OOT, being 11 years old when it came out) but I see a lot of ppl say how OOT is nothing special, probably because they didn't play it when it was a fresh and new experience.

OOT spoiled me. So much so that when MM came out and it was drastically different and when WW came out with the new art styles, I didn't dig them, I didn't like them at all actually. It took me years to finally go back and play MM and I have to say, I love it! Its such a unique and twisted game and I can compare MM to Links Awakening as both games take place in a world outside of Hyrule (Terminia and Koholint Island respectfully) and now I think that the cartoon graphics from Wind Waker look SWEET. I can't wait to tear into that experience as well, however I completed Twilight Princess 100% from July-September and right after that I played through Phantom Hourglass which took about two weeks itself so I'm kinda Zelda'd out right now.
I'm gonna play through RE4 on Wii, Metroid Prime and MGS 1 on the GC before I go back to Zelda (because I have never played any of these 3 legendary games!)

I never get bored or annoyed of WW. Phantom hourglass is just a smaller version of WW. Like instead of there being what maybe 15 islands in hourglass, in Windwaker there's around 40 islands. Also Phantom hourglass had about 20 maps, windwaker has over 40. Also the islands are much bigger to explore. plus the story goes along much better. There's only a few things phantom hourglass does better. One is that you can upgrade your boat. But in WW you don't need to upgrade it, when you get bombs you get a cannon, when you get a new heart, you boat gets a heart, so there's no need. And also the nice little touch screen controls are cool.

But phantom hourglass doesn't have nearly as much side quests as WW does, and doesn't have the unique dungeons WW has. also In WW you can swim, and when you get to an island there's not loading time you can just sail there, or swim. Plus there's much more power ups, and every time I play WW I find something new. Also windwaker has night and day, which I was sad that PH left out. And Windwaker has better music and art style. So really WW is better than PH in every way. If you liked PH you'll love WW.

Since we're listing differences, another obvious but important one is that PH is portable, while WW is not. ;)

WW is portable. just buy one of those gamecube TV's to go things. It's a box and you put your gamecube in it, and it has a screen like the size of a small TV, and you can just walk around with it and play WW =p

In my opinion TP gets 2/5.

yeah TP is even worse than the first Zelda im serios once i got to goron mountain i sold for 5 cents because it was so easy

That's not portable.
