I never really played this or the first Legend of Zelda for more than 15 minutes back when i was a kid and had a NES. But now that im older and actually can figure out what to do, i might give this one a try. Ive almost beat the first one, and once i get that one done i will probably download this one, 1) because its the black sheep of the series and 2) just for nostalgia sake.
[even if i have never got more than 100exp lol]

this is a pretty good game better than I thought. I just got it today (SKKTR's post in a different thread gave me a little push to get it) The musics pretty good and I never knew the music from the temple stage from melee got it from this game. And The good thing about this game is I walked around In the same feild going back and forth between villages, for 2 hours, and I never got bored! I just kept fighting monsters trying to get level ups and figuring out how to beat them. And when your hp is low and you only have one life and 450 exp I get scared and bolt to the village to restore my health, just hopeing nobody attacks me and I lose all my points. I did eventually find out where to go, and may I say say some of the guys in the temple are hard! (one guy killed me 3 times!) So I'd say this is a very good game, I'd give it five stars. but it's kinda going to the extreme when they ask for 700exp when you have zero :link-slash:

Glad you like it man. Zelda II really is criminally underrated.

Yeah a lot of people say its bad just because its different. But All of the 3-D zeldas are easy, a link to the past harder than average, Zelda ll its just bloody hard. But I love it and this might be the first zelda that will take over 2 months to beat. (Wind waker doesn't count because that was my first zelda and before that I only played mario and animal crossing so I didn't know much on puzzles, exploring, or sword fighting)

I keep hearing that and it is tempting to revisit it. I do remember absolutely hating it as a kid though.
I'll probably pass.

Actually beyond oasis is the better version of zelda ll.

I don't know if Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and The Story of Thor: Beyond Oasis are really comparable....
From the parts I have played of Thor it felt nothing like Zelda II... not only one thing the same.
If it was comparable to a Zelda game, then it was more like a watered-down The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past with street fighting in a Secret of Mana way. And the intro reminded me of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

tull,
Those games aren't related at all in terms of gameplay. One is a side-scroller, the other, a top-down. I would compare Oasis to Zela: A Link to the Past, well before Zelda II.

I'm addicted to this game again. I stop playing for a bit because of star fox gh3 and I didn't save on the game for a while and my sister reseted it and I went down about 6 levels so I was ****ed off. But now I just need 2 more level ups and I'm back to normal. And I just found out how to use magic, so now I can jump high and turn links suit red! Yeah its still a fun game and I don't get bord of it.

Might even be better than smb3. Oh deer now that I've said that crazy mario fan boys are gonna kidnap me in my sleep and make me watch videos of michael jackson until I say zelda ll sucks and smb3 is the best a nes and mario game of all time

Yeah I just beat the first temple I've leveled up 17 times. Life is at 6 (plus I now have 5 life bars) Magic is a 6 (i have magic shield and big jump) and attack is at 5. Yes this game can be savage, right now I have to get 2500 exp and an average enemy is worth 15 exp. And some guys can take so much of your health, and you can barley hit them. And some guys you get no exp for beating them, but when they hit you, you lose 10 exp. And if you die and you have 2499 exp or any exp it drops down to zero. And you have to save a lot because if someone resets the game........ and the only way to save that I know of is dieing. So it's pretty hard core. But my favorite game at the moment.

I think Iīm gonna get Zelda II (for VC) again.
It seems much easier and
more enjoyable than all the
other versions of it
(on NES, GBA, GC).
Iīve beaten one of the hardcore versions (GC) once but somehow I miss this game...
I might buy the whole trilogy (TLoZ, Zelda II and ALttP) with my next 2000 points card.
...after Light Crusader...

It's worth it. after leveling up like crazy and beating the boss like crazy, and going into a new hyrule feild, the games has gotten a lot harder. now when going through the feilds, if I go through flowers i go slower and more enemys come. the feild is much bigger, harder to get to the next temple, and the new town you can't revive your health in. But this makes the game much better. Of course there's a short cut through but i will need something that will break rock.......i just hope i level up soon! still my fav game.
SKTTR
19th December 2007, 05:29 PM
you get something to break the boulders pretty soon in the game.
i always wanted to beat this game 100% with all secrets.
there where many spots that took you to goodies.
but i havenīt found them all...
in the later part of the game itīs getting much bigger and more difficult ...
and such a tension not to die..
just getting from city to temple was challenging enough.
But with Wii I can take my time to level up properly.
Just having nightmares of the last temple, the hardest thing in the whole Zelda series.
Anyway. That wonīt stop me!

I found this place. I was waliking trough these trees when suddenly i was in a new place. And it was like a kind of place you would fight in. (you can only walk side to side.) and I found a little link doll or thing. and i picked it up but i don't know what it's used for. and knowing where all of the secrets on the map is useful. Like where i am instead of walking all the way back to the town and the first feild there's a certain spot with a fairy in it to heal me. and in these trees there's a 2 block pathway with something that i can refill my magic in.

Link dolls are 1UPs. They can only be found once though.
SKTTR

Can the 1UP's be saved (like in ActRaiser and Mystical Ninja)?
Or are they gone forever if you use them?
I can't remember but it would make the game a lot easier.

hmm my next level up is 4000. Very hard to find. I just got a glove or something I can breake rocks in the temple, but not the big bolders outside. Life-7, Magic-7, Attack-6, Magic items-jump, sheild and life. Life bars- 5. I play about 2 hours a day so I think I'm doing pretty good.

Nope, once you pick up the doll you have the 1UP, when you get a game over they don't respawn.
I never understood why people think this game is so hard. I've never had a problem with it. It's fairly challenging and some times you get a cheap death but it's far from impossible and not anywhere close to being one of the hardest games on the NES.

Any of you still on this? I've been playing it a lot, I'm upto the palace that you need to walk through a maze to get to (4th?). It's the furthest I've got so far but I only gave the game a serious go this time 2 years ago, not sure what happened then, must have got into something else. Think 2 of my stats are up to level 6 and one is level 7, I can do the downward thrust but not the upward and I can shoot fire.
Starting to get a bit frustrated so might give it a rest tomorrow!

I'm on the 4th, the 3rd is the one you have to go through a tunnel to get to, the boss is a knight on a floating horse. It's all got pretty hardcore, I'd like to take a break but my 360 keeps breaking down and I have nothing else I want to play on.
EDIT: Argh, really need a break. My next level up is 3500 which is only magic so I'll pass and wait even longer. I only got to 2500 before death, so frustrating.

Ahh, that'll be the wall that guy tells you about then? I'm not that far yet. I might play a bit later actually before I go to bed.
EDIT: Done quite well (and quite badly, dying twice right before level-ups) on my levelling up today, everything is at 8. On the 5th (island) palace now, the 4th boss was suprisingly easy.
Had a go at Majora's Mask earlier but I'm still not in the mood for that kind of stuff.
EDIT2: Didn't know that your stats stop upgrading at 8 and you get an extra life instead. Been looking forward to not having to level up anymore but now it's a bit of a shame. I'm on the final palace, god those flying blue eye things are a pain.

Only 8? that sucks. That means I'm one level away from having full stats. Without level ups this game is gonna be dead hard.
I've got the hammer now so traveling is much easier. I'm on the Island Palace now, I doubt I'll finish it any time soon

The game is a cakewalk when your stats are all at 8. You should be fine. Getting to the final palace is annoying, but once you're there it's not too bad (and if you lose all your lives in the final palace, you start there instead of back at the beginning).

Try leveling up.
That's what i did.
I had a big process of getting full health, making my way to the palace, fight like crazy, then when I had about 2 health bars left, i would leave the palace make my way to a village, get full health and repeat. I did that about 30 times before defeating the boss.
I haven't played this or any game lately, so I'm no further than before.

I can't wait till this game comes out on Monday. ;)
If you keep getting killed in the first palace, you can also explore a bit... you should find a power-up along the coast to the south of the palace.
