View Full Version : Wireless Sensor Bar

I use my Wii with a projector (it looks awesome :D ). My problem is trailing the sensor bar wire. As my room is set up, I have to have it across my bed, which is a royal pain in the rear.

Has anyone else bought a Wireless Sensor Bar that they could recommend? And from where did you get it?

My friend sometimes hooks his Wii up to his projector for parties and stuff, it's so damn cool.

But the only Wireless Sensor Bar that I know of is the Nyko one. Look it up, I heard it's reliable.

I've just looked it up. Seems they only ship to the US though, and I'm from the UK. I think ebay may come to the rescue here.

Anyone know of a UK reseller?

I was afraid of this.

*pushes the Plan B button*

Now we wait and see what it does...

I've heard that you can make your own sensor bar; MacGyvering it up with two tv remotes on either side of your telly. I won't pretend to know how it works, but apparently it does.

I considered making one myself.. you need infrared LEDs as that is what the sensor bar emits. Seriously, try looking through it with a camera (a phone camera will do). You should be able to see the infrared light.

I just tested that through our camera. Spooky!

You can use simple candles too, I've tried it. One on each side of the TV.

I wonder if two remote controls will work aswell.

And that camera thing sure where spooky. Maybe I'll upload the picture when I've inserted it into the computer.

But back to the sensorbar, there's a swedish netshop that sells some of them. But I don't know if they deliver outside sweden. I will check it out and edit this post, can't do it know since I'm writing from my Wii.

EDIT: Ok, checked it out and they unfortunately don't deliver stuff outside sweden :(
Too bad since you can trust that shop, I've bought stuff from there quite a lot of times.

Yeah, it's Webhallen.
The site is in swedish though.

Search for "wireless sensor bar" in the upper left corner and you should find one made by Asid Tech.

There's a video on youtube that tells you how to make your own sensor bar using IR LEDs. It doesn't go into any great detail, but it does work. So in theory you should be able to make a sensor bar using to IR television remotes.

Follow the link for the video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hdxJt9UNqxE

Ha! It works by just having two remotes and holding a button on both of them, but had the Wiimote about 50 cm from the controllers so the accuracy wasn't that much.
But still, it works ;)

Heck, you can make your own sensor just by using lighted candles. The distance of the candles is about half as good as the sensors bar, but it does work.

This may be a little late...but there are games that do not need the sensor bar at all.

For those games who don't require pointing, say WiiSports, you may keep the sensor bar near the Wii, point there with the controller to navigate thru the menus, and when it's time to play, just ignore it.

OK, this do not resolve everything, but while you're waiting to order it, and plan to play some game which do not require pointing, this is a practical solution.

As followup on the last post, NFS:Carbon isn't using the sensorbar at all. So those games are of course playable without it.
