I was just curious if anyone else heard those stories about supposedly leaving on WC24 eventually gives your Wii the 'artifacts' (dots on the screen in menu's etc); when the GPU fails, I was wondering if this is true, and if I should bother with WC24 at all?

I've never turned Wiiconnect 24 off, and I've never experienced overheating or any artifacts on the screen.

Same, but I only keep my wi-fi USB thingy connected for 1 day tops. If I leave it in too long it gets warm and I get a low connection, or no connection.

I turn my computer off at night and therefore so does my Wii Connectivity to the Internet.
I also have to turn off the WiiConnect sometimes because it seems to interfear with my Cel Phone or the little 'One or more systems is connected...' message popping up every time its looking for information every 2-3 minutes gets really annoying.
But come Brawl, I suppose it'll be on 24/7, heh.

From what I've seen, this sort of thing happened/can happen to a certain percentage of launch units. The Wii gets too warm by the heatsinks by the graphics card, which causes the graphical glitches.
I've had my WiiConnect24 on since I've had the unit in July and haven't noticed any problems. But I did check it today and it was pretty warm even when the Wii's power was off.
Not that I'm really worried -- Nintendo builds their consoles really well, but I turned off WiiConnect24 just to be safe... I don't really use any of the stuff it updates (news/weather channel, Check Mii Out, etc) anyway.

To clarify things, Nintendo patched the Wii some time ago so the fan activates if the Wii peaches a high temperature, so it should be safe even if it stands in the sun or if it's generally warm in the room (a warm gaming room were the sun reaches? Blasphemy!)

Mine wii always gets to hot for 24/7, the update has made no difference and I can tell you 3 things. 1) Your wii will NEVER get damaged due to wiiconnect 24/7. The wii shuts off it's wifi when it reaches a certain temperature (always did this, wasnt an update), the proof of this is the constant pop up message of the dongle as the wifi starts up and shuts off when the wii is just on the danger temperature. 2) Removing the usb dongle, DOESN'T prevent the wii from getting hot, it still gets very hot as it searches for an acess point. and 3) The wifi dongle will overheat before the wii doesn't. We hust had a heatwave adn although the wii was fine(I never turned it off just to keep the fans going) but the dongle stopped working after about 1 1/2 days of heat.

Have had my Wii hooked up with WF24 on 24/7 since I got it back in November and haven't experienced a single problem.

Yeah but what sort of temperature range do you have where you live. I only have problems from about late November through March (aka summer) when the temperature is generally 25 C +. In winter it is generally cool enough to not cause any problems.

Winter is cool. I've actually only had the system since November, so it's been all winter. But the heat in my apartment is set at 23 °C. Summer will be a true test, when the temperatures range anywhere between 15 and 35 °C. Summer here isn't a dry heat, though, as I live on the coast, so it's quite humid.

My Intercooler keeps my Wii cool as a cucumber all day long. I suggest to anybody who likes to keep their Wii on 24/7 get the intercooler. It's only $15.

My first Wii died due to the this connect24 overheating thing.
I lost four VC games and loads of data. I was not impressed.

I hear intercoolers for any system do more harm than help, is this true?
