at the moment my nintendo wii has been updated via my wifi connection, it is now version 2.2E, does that mean it's the same in the usa and japan????

I'm pretty sure the 'E' in the version number indicates Europe, but don't quote me on that.

If he updated to the latest release (which is quite old), 2.2E also for him.

It's the most recent update.

I guess it is. There are just disadvantages in having a world wide sytem with different software versions available. At least concerning the OS...

As DivineOmega said, the 'E' may stand for Europe, because also the previous version was labeled 'E'.

i just bought a wireless ADSL/modem, put the wires in and searched for an access point

My Wii version is listed as 2.2 US. I believe the country you live in is abbreviated after the version update number.

New system update in the US today, including a slightly different looking Shop Channel with new search functionality, and a spiffy clock at the bottom of the channels menu, among a few more subtle changes.

Can we change the title to 'New 3.0 Update' or something similar? Just so people know.

It's changed quite a bit, the shop channel is much more user friendly, and even shows the most popular games being downloaded :)
