When I put a disk in, it seems to be getting louder and louder. The sound of it is just getting ridiculous, it's really driving my skull in now
It's just like a constant backround to every game I play, is my Wii in trouble?
I have like £200s worth of VC games too...
Please tell me it's not just mine, because I'm starting to get worried.

I do have, sometimes. Really depends on the game though. Fifa 07 goes with constant ticking, then again it did that on the cube too.

Could it be different disks are making louder noises than others?

Discs don't make noises, drives do. =P The more common-place reason why drives are sometimes louder is because they have trouble reading the discs, but it could just as well be a bad drive. =/

I think it does make different noises when playing different discs, but I know my Wii has never been this loud with any game.

If there is something wrong with the Drive and I need the Wii replaced, would replacing my VC points and games be possible?

This has happened to me once before. I started getting a loud buzzing noise which I thought was just the fan working overtime but like you guys said is probably the drive. Did it for like two days then never had a problem with it again, and that was back in December.

If your Wii is standing up on its side, try laying it out flat instead. I know my PS2 was noisy as all heck when stood upright, but had no issues at all laid flat.
Either way, I'd get it looked at. You don't want the drive mechanism to fail to the level where it starts eating discs. Is it still under warranty?

It'll still be under warranty since the Wii hasn't been out for a year yet. If you're worried then I would get it sorted out before a year because you'll be stuck after that. Nintendo can transfer your VC games to a new Wii if needs be.

Having the Wii laying down dampens a lot of noise, less vibrations. If you have it standing it might just be it if the disc is spinning at different rates depending on the situation.

I have it laying down now because the Wii fell down a couple of foot pulling out of the wires and landing on top of my SNES for a 3rd time while I was using the GC controller to play Paper Mario the other night. I haven't played a Wii game since (we need more of 'em!), but I'll check tomorrow.

You haven't tried with a Wii game yet? Now I'm really worried, my Wii doesn't make a lot of noise when I play GCN games or VC games. GCN games are rather quiet because of the small disks and VC games obviously doesn't have any media that would sound.
If it sounds like an 360 without a Wii disc in it then you should really check if everything works and/or contact Nintendo about it. Those falls that you've told about cannot be good for it, maybe you should invest in a Wavebird.

Frankly, it could very well be that those falls are the cause of the problem.

You know, you actually may be right...
I'm just gonna pretend I never read it and hope it's not... :(

Thats what I do just pretend It never happened. before I had the classic controller I had to use the game cube controller, people would trip on the cord I would pull on it and the whole system would fall over. But theres nothing wrong with my wii...I think. But For me different games have different volume.

It's gotten to a ridiculous point now, I can't focus on the game because the sound of the Wii is well over half as loud as the TV itself.
I'll try contacting Nintendo soon, I tried emailing them but I dunno why I even wasted the time.
I currently feel like breaking the stupid thing ¬_¬

Ever since getting my Wii at launch it's been quiet as a mouse, but over the past few months it's been gradually getting louder and louder.
By louder, I mean that when it's reading a disc it makes a god-awful clunking noise, like the laser unit is hitting something on the innerds.
I moved it from vertical to horizontal, and that seemed to help (not remedy) the clunking, but it still seems to be getting worse.
Seems to still run games fine, apart from the occasional DRE on my pristine GC discs. Should I give Nintendo a shout? Is it still under warranty? (all the leaflets and such are in the box up in the loft, but I'm sure here in the UK all electronics have 2yrs warranty as standard).
Ideas?

Nintendo of Europe only gives you one year of warranty, If I'm not mistaken.
So ring up or send an e-mail to your local itteration of Nintendo.
