View Full Version : Wii doesn't like power cuts

I've been doing some DIY recently and I've had to turn off the power to the house a couple of times, and I've discovered that the Wii really doesn't like it. Everytime the power has been cut and switched back on, the Wii has refused to power on (even to standby mode). According to the manual, power cuts confuse the hell out of the Wii (probably due to the always-on network thing) and the only way to fix it is to disconnect the power again (just from the Wii this time) for 10 minutes and plug it back in. Then the magic red standby light should return.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share this in case anyone else has a similar problem and starts weeping that their Wii may be broken.

Same here, had one for about 30 minutes last night. I'll count myself lucky :D

My Wii has experianced quite a few power cuts (probably 10 or so because we got problems around Christmas), some lasting quite a while, and they've just left it with a red light, nothing bad at all...

The red light means that it's angry though ;)
But I've experienced the same but without power cuts when switching channels and it's just to pull out the power and insert it again to make it work, no need for waiting.
Good to share the info, thanks in advance ;)

I've had a few situations where the Wii has frozen completely so it won't respond to the Home button or even the reset/standby button. In those instances I've had to disconnect it from the mains. Each time it has rebooted without a problem after being switched on again. I was paranoid though, in case it wouldn't work after switching it on. I've heard horror stories of Wii consoles that packed in completely, only giving a 'system files corrupt' error message after switching on.

There was an update today that should fix this problem as told by Mendez here (http://www.vc-forums.com/showthread.php?t=2117).
Oh, and good to see you Coot - was starting to feel like the old man of VCF ;)

I never had problems when I had to plug out my Wii because it couldn't find the controller anymore. Sometimes I had to manually press the power button on the Wii (rather than using the Wii remote), but besides that, nothing.

Funny that update .. posted that message here then went on the Wii & the message from Ninty came through - an update dealing with exactly the problem I'd mentioned. Twilight Zone stuff. :)
