Out of all the Mega Drive/Genesis games released, only one has been third party (Gunstar Heroes). While Sega's games were the cream of the crop on the system, it'll be a real shame if none of the third party stuff comes out.
What could be the reason though? Even the one third party related game due for release, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, was developed by Sega. Compare this to the SNES and NES, which has has had lots of third and first party games :?

It's early days yet. I'm sure we'll see more third-party stuff down the line.

Actually, he's right, the MD version was ported by Sega, who also redid the art from the arcade game, not Capcom.

If Gunstar Heroes (developed by Treasure) can be classed as third-party then so can The Story of Thor (Ancient) and Vectorman (Blue Sky Software). :)

Vectorman is on Gametap, so I see no reason why it shouldn't be on the Virtual Console.

I believe Quackshot was made by Sega themselves?

I know this is a stupid to say, but considering the support that Treasure has shown Sega, I consider it a 2.5 party developer XD.

Times have changed.
In the early days they might have joined with Sega.
But they also collaborated with Enix. The result was Mischief Makers for N64, a 2D action game that is a million times better than everything they've done before.
And then they collaborated with Nintendo. Results were Sin&Punishment (N64) and Wario World (Cube).
They also worked with Konami, Capcom and other top developers.

And now again with SEGA, with Astro Boy and Gunstar Super Heroes for the GBA.

And soon to be Ikaruga and an unknown shooter for the Xbox 360.
