Wave Race is a pretty cool game. The controls are a little clunky for those who are used to titles like Mario Kart and F-Zero, but you get used to it eventually. The stunning visuals, fun races, and unique environments make this game worth 1000 points. I'd give it a 4/5.

I'm curious whether there is a real point to doing the handstand drive, barrel roll, etc. other than just to pull them off. Those stunts just slow me down for the most part with seemingly no positive effect (of any kind) to the race.

There's a real point to this: Your TURBO METER fills up one space, if you do a stunt trick!

So, even if making tricks slows you down a bit, with the right strategy on each course, you can get more turbos and therefore get a lot faster.

You won't beat my times if you're just doing the races and get your turbo meter filled up by slalom buyos without stunts.
