View Full Version : I want to bid on this item, but how do I know it's real?

I've never bid on ebay before so I'm very nervous. I want the Club Nintendo Super Famicom controller. It's sold by this seller, but I would like a way to know if this seller is legit and if the item is not a copy or fake.

I looked at his ratings and they are perfect! 100%. The reason I am skeptical is that he has so many of these Wii Super Fam controllers. Where did he get so many if they are limited edition to Club Nintendo members?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270238649312

Anyway, I would like you advice and wisdom on this.

Thanks.

How come he has so many if they're supposed to me Club Nintendo Members only?

I didn't think they were Club Nintendo only; I thought you could buy them in Japan. I guess I'm wrong. Maybe he had tons of points and just blew them all on controllers?

I think it was a bit of both. As far as I know, only Japanese Club members could trade in club points for them...

Anyway, I've made my bid on one! :D

So these will work in conjunction with non-Japanese systems? I always assumed they would but someone made a post a while back somewhere that hinted that they wouldn't. I may think about bidding on one of these myself. :)

It is only a controller extension. I'm not even sure they can be region locked. I hope this is not the case....

I don't think they can. That's why I was thrown for a loop when someone mentioned it before.

Well, if I win this, I'll make sure to tell all.

Update: Just won it! :D Anticipating its arrival....

Hi! This is going to sound real noobish, but I'll take the chance.

I never used ebay because of the scams that people fell for. I was wondering if you bid on the item and win it then do you pay for it using paypal through an ebay link or do you go to the paypal website and pay through an email address that the seller gives you?

Also, how will they know your address?

Finally, how much did you pay to win?

Finally, how much did you pay to win? Most sellers accept PayPal, you can see if they do in the item description, that's the most common way of paying and I think it's the safest method. Ebay is linked up with PayPal so it's very quick to do, you select to pay through PayPal on ebay's site and ebay directs you through it all, but it's important to have your PayPal account set up before you bid because there can be a delay in getting one. When you pay, you'll confirm your address and ebay gives it to the seller, you can contact the seller and ask any questions if there are any. There are full instructions for all this on ebay's site.

There's always some risk but most of the time it goes smoothly, in my opinion the benefits of buying on ebay outweigh the risks if you're careful and prepared to take some bad with the good. There have been a few times when I've received items that aren't exactly as described, or I've had less than perfect service from the seller, but it balances out with all the good things I've had from ebay. You can reduce your chance of being scammed by paying attention to the seller's feedback, but remember some buyers are reluctant to leave negative feedback in fear that they will receive negative feedback in retaliation (and remember the seller knows where you live!).

That's an awful lot for a classic controller for a non-collector like me. I think I'll just wait till they release them for the NA market. Or else take apart my old SNES controller and rewire it as a WaveBird. ;)

$50.36 USD = £25.57 GBP which is just above the price of a classic controller in the UK.

You guys are getting sodomized. A classic controller here runs between $20 and $24.99, which is $19.64 to $24.54 USD. Half the price you guys pay? Even if you take the shipping out of that $50, it's still pretty brutal.

The only question I had left was whether one should use Airmail, SAL, or EMS.

Airmail is $8 but does not give you insurance and tracking.
SAL is $5, does not give you insurance and tracking, but takes longer to get there than airmail.
EMS is $15 and DOES give insurance and tracking and gets there quicker.

My question, restated, is whether or not you think a Super Famicom Wii controller is prone to breaking along the way from Japan to US. If so then I would prefer EMS, but it's not made of glass so I shouldn't expect it to break either correct?

Should I pay $15 and get EMS?

If it were me, I'd probably take the cheapest shipping. Sellers are usually competent enough to pack their items so they won't break. And I can't imagine a controller in a box and packaging breaking during shipping. But that's if it were me.

Also, Jogurt: I don't think the Super Famicom controller will be out in the US or UK. It's a Club Nintendo Special so I doubt they would sell it here. That's just what I think. But if you're not a collector then it's not a big deal. I'm a wannabe collector =)

I don't know where you're shopping, because classic controllers are £15 (http://www.game.co.uk/Wii/Hardware/Accessory/~r329656/Official-Nintendo-Wii-Classic-Controller/?s=Classic+Controller) in the UK.

I still think £25 is a reasonable price for a controller by standards here.

I wouldn't buy this but I'd buy a Mega Drive Wii controller if they did one.

It was PC World, a few months ago. Prices have dropped everywhere it seems. Never mind!

I have an SNES controller for the Wii that I tried to sell on eBay, but there were no bidders. I was kind of surprised, but then again, maybe it is a niche item. Anyway, I'm willing to sell it for $25 (pay through PayPal), free shipping, if anyone is interested. You can PM me.

My user ID on eBay is "prospecter11" (yes, I know it's spelled wrong) if you want to see my feedback, which is 100% positive in 421 transactions.

I just ordered one of these beauties. Should be here in a couple of weeks. It cost me $44 (shipping included), but I'm going to try to sell my second classic controller to help reduce the cost.

This just got here in record time from Japan. Speedy! I haven't used it yet... I'll probably crack it open next time I take Super Metroid for a spin, or else whenever the next big SNES game is released. I'm content to let it sit pretty on my shelf till then.
