View Full Version : Superman 64 on the VC from a collector point of view

Before you think that this is another topic to just make fun of this game, please read the following.

So, everybody knows that this game is one of the worst games ever made. And just because of that, I have this game next to the cartridge of Ocarina of time and Super mario 64; obviously my friends laugh every time they come to my house. And for that reason, this game should be in every collector's house.

After watching how great looks Starfox 64 (and almost every N64 game) in the VC, I was wondering how good this game would look if it was played on the Wii.

So, the idea of having this game up and ready to be downloaded is not as crazy as I once thought. I would be the first one to download it, because it's a part of gaming history. And as a collector, I want to play this game with improved visuals and the gamecube controler.

Maybe this game will never be in the VC. But I don't know if there's someone here who is as crazy as me to buy a game twice just because is the worst game ever.

if this thing ever comes out on VC then please on the very last update along with Power rangers, Rise of the robots and Pokémon Stadium*.

This will be your dream - The top trash games of all time update.

*notable info Pokémon Stadium's Transfer Pak feature will get the cut just as the whole Controller Pak and Rumble Pak features in all N64 Vc games, that are apparent up to this date. ;D

All in exchange for better screen resolution? Phh, as long as I got my games original with all original features I'm happy. Of course there are a few N64 games I missed back then or .. yeah, Blast Corps.. Got lost somehow. thieves.... and Wetrix, RE2, other cool games - stolen by ex girl. ^^

Where to start a competition for a classic controller with extra N64 functions?

1 - with built in Rumble Pak and
2 - a function to save CP data (like the ghosts in Mario Kart 64) on SD Card or an extra data block for that game in the wii game data menu? wheres the problem???
3 - With it you should also be able to play Gamecube games!
4 - nintendo, go and do a new classic controller that justifies the N64! :D

When I downloaded StarFox64, I compared both versions using two TVs side by side. I have to say that it was greatly improved; it was as nearly good looking as an (early) Dreamcast game. The N64 version, though, looked dated compared to the improved one (specially water and lava effects; no more blurry images and bosses)

Anyway, it seems you still don't get my point! I'm not talking about downloading EVERY crappy game available, just Superman 64 (I explained why this game), and I'm also waiting for the best games of the system too.

Haha I would love to see this game released for Wii VC! The Wii would probably remove a lot of the fog, so all the buildings would pop out in front of you and stuff... hahaha

I don't think we've seen everything from the CC yet. It still has that mysterious clip, of which third parties have made use, but Nintendo have remained quiet on.

Don't forget the rings...just think how gorgeous those rings would look.

And multiplayer. It would be a blast!

is it part of gaming history? i'd of said its more of a general bad game. i'd have said for a game to get into the history books for being bad it would need to have some repercusons. like the millions of unsold ET nes cartridges that got buried in the dessert. or the commercial flop of shenmue that doomed the dreamcast.

N64 Mag made the game legendary for its badness with its gags and jokes they ran with like Lex Luthor's "SOLVE MY MAZE!" XD

Hey shenmue was not that bad of a game.

it was a great game. but a commercial failing.

it cost $70 million to produce and sold 460,316 units in the usa, it's most successful market. i don't know how much it was selling for but if we assume $50 a throw then it takes about $23 million. thats a loss of about $50 million.

Phrases like "all your base...", "do a barrel roll", "you are winner", "hey, listen!" and "solve my maze" ARE part of gaming history. These are some of the most known quotes of our culture and are easily recognizable through the world.

And the rings, don't forget the rings.

First time I read the "solve my maze" quote... I don't think Superman 64 is much more than just the worst N64 game, really.

This is not the worst N64 game. It's just ugly and redundant. A waste of lifetime.

If this has any value for you, you might as well collect every boring N64 game out there.

go and buy Clayfighter 63 1/3...
or Knife Edge...
or Space Invaders 64...
or Deadly Arts aka GASP!! Fighters' NEXTream...

I have an idea!! Do you want to buy all my cr appy games? ^^

A game shouldn't be considered 'valuble' or put on a pedestal just because its terrible, that is crazy. There are plenty of Great N64 games, why should one terrible game be sought after? Games are made to be played, and there aren't many people who enjoy playing terrible games. Some people may enjoy playing Superman 64 and thats a justified reason for wanting on the VC, but wanting it to be on the VC because of its notority as a terrible game is crazy. There are plenty of great classic games out there that deserve a spot on the VC before Superman.

Mission Impossible is another stinker, but this is getting close to thread-hijacking. ;)

Then, I asume that you have never read NGC magazine back at their time...that magazine reflects what Superman 64 means to their generation.

You are kind of contradicting yourself; first you say that there aren't "bad games" as long as someone enjoy them. I agree, what I consider fun it could be considered boring for many of my friends.

But then you say that there are other games that should be on the VC before Superman64. If I consider what you said first, then Superman64 is not a "bad game" and should be, along with Mario or Donkey Kong 64, considered to be on the VC because for me, they have (it's just an example), the same value.

Although I understand what you are talking about. Maybe I'm the only person here that finished Superman64 without cheats. I really played through the whole game, and as I wrote before, this game IS part of our generation because it reflects (apart from the crazy quotes) what 3D games had turned into: a terrible waste of time, with lazy programmers releasing sloppy games that shadowed the N64's full potential.

I've seen videos of this game it looks boring as hell , and I don't think it will come to vc anyway because it's superman and they probabley won't bother to get the license to put it on or whatever
