Since we Europeans haven't seen the release of this title yet (and probably won't until Q3) can those who have played it share some input? Is the title as great as the reviews I've read (Averaging a score of 9/10)?

Our friends at NintendoLife sum it up pretty well:
Super Paper Mario review (http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/2007/04/15/super_paper_mario_by_phat_ant)
I have it for my US Wii. It is truly excellent. My favourite Wii game so far. 9/10 for sure! 8)

October...
A nearly 6-month lead time for Europe is baffling, and nigh-unforgivable, especially given the dearth of titles here at the moment.

That sounds great Dazza. I actually haven't played the earlier entries in the Paper Mario series, but I'm really looking forward to this one now.
iNma: Is the release date set for October? God damn what a hold up. I'm guessing it's a translation related issue, given the games hefty amount of dialogue. By the way... Where did you hear about October being the ship date? I haven't seen any official word on it, just placeholder dates.

The last I heard was the end of November, which is fairly believable.
And if it does come out over here at the end of the year, can you still see the other big hitters coming out? I can't.
But anyway, I've only played the Cube's Paper Mario and it's awesome.
It it's as funny as that one I'll be happy.

I can't remember where I saw the October release date, so don't take it as gospel. Still, it wouldn't surprise me if October was optimistic.
And I second the opinion about other big games. However, one hopes that Nintendo are smart enough not to delay them significantly. Firstly because I *need* Metroid Prime 3, and secondly because they're paramount to the credibility of the Wii as a gaming machine

Nintendo has a lot to prove, given earlier statements. They have made "promises" that there would be a steady flow of AAA-titles and that we would see Metroid 3 and Mario Galaxy early on. Neither of those "promises" reflects our present situation (according to me), but given the gaming goodness that awaits us I'm playing the waiting game for now.
Back to Super Paper Mario. I'm a little unsure if shaking the Wiimote for extra points is such a great feature. It seems a little tacked on, just for the sake of it. Does it add or take away from the gameplay?

And to think of all the lift/elevator they have to translate.
Nah, it's the german/french/spanish that takes time. And since there's a lot of dialogue it will take some time.
But the game itself...I've never played it but I've heard that it's a little like SMRPG and would maybe buy it. It kind of depends no it's reviews and my economical situation.

I know we're the trashbin of Europe, but at least Italian is a very nice language.....
Anyway, titles like this always receive an incredibly high degree of attention for translations. I really appreciate that, Paper Mario and Mario&Luigi sagas are probably the funniest games I ever played.
When I'm suggesting friends to buy one of these titles, my argumentations always focus on the infinite laughs they provide.

For all of you in Europe, the game is well worth the wait. Super Paper Mario has the same great game play as the traditional side scrolling Mario games, plus the RPG elements and great humor of the previous Paper Mario games. It's true that it's not fair that you have to wait for the game, but I guarantee that it will be worth it.

I just don't get why we (europe) need translations, don't most people read english anyway? The reason for the delay is because the PAL version has to allow for all major European languages. Unfortunately us Brits come under the PAL region. The American games fall under the NTSC region and as such are dealt with by NOA not NOE (Nintendo of America, Nintendo of Europe). If there was a "Nintendo of Great Britain" it would solve all our problems. Its been like this since the dawn of time and it probably isn't going to change anytime soon.

Well since no ones really talking about the game ONLY that it takes to long for for the translation ( I feel sorry for you too ) I guess I'll talk about it. Well it's not much of a hard game, but I still love it. The fighting pretty easy, I guess it's like that because it's not supposed to really be a hard game, but the bosses should have been harder. There are some hard fighting parts. ( example: pit of 100 trials ) Other than fighting, the game is great! I love the story and all of the different moves you get, I love doing stylish moves. And to actually BEAT the game there's a lot of extra things to get, like the 258 cards and all of the recipes. All over all this is a great game and I would say this is one of the best games out there. :D

Come on dude, I wasn't expecting such a frankly xenophobic and straight ignorant comment from you. Surely you cannot demand that the entire world learn a language that, even in its most widespread form, is no more than a lingua franca for universal communication between people of different mother tongues. There's no substitute for the nuances that can be achieved through individual localisation. According to wikipedia, the total number of English speakers in the world is less than a billion, thereby, deducing from your flawed logic, games should be unattainable to more than 5/6 of the world because of their refusal to learn it? No, just no.

I see your point, but we all live in the age of the the Internet and technology that all speak English... Why cant they accept that, will they ever?. Other languages is secondary in that context. They are making its ppl lag behind cos they want to keep the national pride and refuse to accept the standard. Do they think its ppl is to stupid to cope with another lang? The rest if EU is teaching it AFAIK expect those nationalists(iknow im itching nerves now :D). Like two generations up from me(in my contry) dont even know english. I dont see them screeming nooo another lang is bad. Only those contries.

My point is as follows:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_France
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Spain
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Germany
From a cursory glance at these articles, you will see that English is essentially compulsory in all of them as a second language.
There is no barrier to learning the language, nor is there a problem of national pride curtailing the teaching of it. The issue, as I said in my previous post, is that one cannot expect proficiency in a second language to be comparable to the mother tongue of any student, much like the vast majority of students in Britain would not able to speak French (the compulsory second language) with any degree of fluidity.
Remember, also, that I am saying all this as a person who studied English as a second language, being Swedish myself.

That's not quite true schoolkids in Britain usually choose between learning German, French or Spanish. It doesn't have to be French although it usually is.
I am not sure what the deal is now but when I was at school I don't think we even studied another language until we were 14! At that age I feel it is almost too late to get a real grasp of a language unless the student really makes an effort. I think kids may start at age 11 now.
We are lucky in England really. Thanks to America we are ensured the world will always make English (albeit American-English!) the first priority. I go aboard a lot to France, Spain, Germany, etc now and I am always embarrassed at my lack of multi-lingual skills. I at least always try to mumble through the phrase book (more than most Brits!) but 9/10 we end up speaking in English because the other person understands it so well.
I went to stay with my uncle earlier this year in the house that he owns in France. It's really far away from big cities and it was a real shock to find for the first time that outside the big cities people speak very little English. We got by of course with our feeble attempts but it does show you there is a world out there who don't speak English. Fair play to them, why should they have to?

My point is that they never get it "in" growing up via TV(dubbed), games(localized) other technology(localized). And they continue localizing over and over to they get stuck only knowing native. And have you tried talking English in any of those contries?(no offence to you ppl living there:) With great success? (ok Germany aint as bad as the other two i think...). Ohhhh okay...so let's look at this
Nintendo -> Japan
according to these claims you make...everything Nintendo should be left alone in Japanese. We should all understand their language because they made Nintendo.
My point is that we all have our own language, and there is no problem with people from other countries not knowing English. this is why they made translators.

I got it a few days earlier and I'm playing it all the time.
I'm now 20 hours into it, and in chapter 7.
This game got style. Surprises everywhere. Addictive!
The (German) text translation is perfect. it's hilarious, purely awesome dialogue.
Gameplay is a fresh air of wind. Original in every aspect.
Feels a bit shorter than the other Paper Mario games although. But more innovative and often very weird and cool in its presentation of the world.
and there are plenty of sidequests once more.
I would call it Super Pixel Mario, because pixels are so much involved in the graphical style and story. just as much as the paper style ;)
Super Paper Mario is something completely different than any other game.
And it's a blast. I hope it lasts for a week.

The bug in chapter 2:2 refers to the section where you encounter Mimi for the first time, and the search of the four rooms. The bug seems to occur when the Wii is set to a cerntain language. Anyway... the bug causes the Wii to freeze, which I am glad to say didn't happen to me.

I'm only on chapter 1-4, taking my time as much as I can, and so far it's just great :)

Chapter 3 is one of my favorites! Just so funny. Also if you check around in chapter 3-4 you'll find things from paper mario and the thousand year door.

I liked that one too! But the boss reminds me too much of myself....
I'm starting to get kinda worried about the length of this game...only played for a couple of hours and 4 doors are opened already! I probably should start reminding myself its a platformer not an rpg like the others...then it wont seem as bad...

Yeah a bit on the easy side but still really fun.

I find this game kinda frustrating for some reason... good nonetheless.

Just beaten it in 26 hours 32 minutes.
It's a great game, but easier than the other Paper Mario's.
Now there's much left to find out..
I haven't come across the Casino yet. Where's that thing?
I'm leveling up Mario (don't really need to) while searching for all treasures on the maps I bought.
And I'm searching for different food to cook all the recipes.
And I'm collecting money and all enemy cards.
And I'm doing all the sidequests.
I suppose that's approx. 15 hours plus from now on.
So it's a very good 40 hour platform/adventure.
I tell you when I got everything 100%.
Because this game is great, even after you beat it.
I can't stop. There's so much to do.

I know where it is, but I'm not telling. =P Frankly, it's not that difficult to find.

I've gotten everything but the enemy cards. I'm trying to find them all but 257 cards is a lot. Oh and dont forget the pit of hundred trails those are hard (but i beat it.) But I think the bosses should be harder, because i leveled up a lot doing side quests.
HP 105
POWER 40? cant remember.

Do you need Luigi to get to the pit of 100 trials? I'm on 4-2 at the moment

You don't need Luigi to get to the first one but you do for the second

Just completed it, It's really good, but I think that it doesn't really 'draw' the player towards th sidequests as much as it could. I completed it without the Piccolo Pixl, on the plus side though, there is quite a bit of replay value. Good game, But I might trade it in to get Galaxy.
