Yeah I know it hasn't came out yet but, so what. I'm getting this game the day it comes out! I think it will be great, flying through space, having new moves, and it's on Wii. I herd (read) that this game will be two player, but not versing each other you get to be two player on the actually game. I think it's two player because the actions are pretty hard. Also people (the people making the game) said this game will be everything Super Mario Sunshine wasn't. :D

It looks pretty average at the moment, where will you get the stars from? Does it have stages like sunshine and mario 64?
I really really wish it wasn't set in space :(

The trailers made it look like the whole game was one single stage where there are some bigger planets who have challenges which earns you stars. But I think it's likely that you can't just go anywhere you like from the beginning but that you need certain amounts of stars to unlock stages or new parts of Mario's Galaxy. I do hope that the unlocked stages are a part of one big space though.
Plus I read some rumours about really big planets on which you really won't realize that they are objects in space but rather just levels/seperate stages. I hope that that's true, but I kinda doubt it...

Well I'm not really into space ether but I think it wont really be a space type game. Because most space games have space ships and crazy guns, but I think this game will be some what like super mario sunshine. And yeah I hope you need to unlock stuff to go farther.

I'm in the minority, as I loved Sunshine to bits, thought it was an excellent game, but Mario 64 was dull. :?
So I'm hoping Galaxy is more like Sunshine, to be honest.

Mario 64 just had much better levels, they weren't as frustrating and the missions didn't take a year to do some of.
Also I hated the blue coins in Mario Sunshine, you could never tell how many you had in what courses so the 120 shines was virtually impossible without keeping a tally of them :?

Well I thought Super Mario 64 was a bit to much on the easy side. But super mario sunshine made the levels hard and fun to go through. Yeah it gets frustrating but that's what makes you want to play again and again.

Wow, heresy aplenty here.
SM64 was a revolutionary game. Seeing it in motion for the first time back in '95 was a revelation, and it's as important now as it was then. Because the N64 didn't do particularly well in its generation, I think people forget the impact this had.
Sunshine was great, but to be honest it was essentially SM64 with water, bigger levels and a broken camera (and not enough Yoshi). Still fun, though, mind.
Galaxy has the potential to be what people forget Mario used to be: a redefinition of the accepted parameters of game design, not simply for platformers, but for 3D games in general. Or it could fall flat on its face. Either way, this is a monumental game, and I'm with the first post: I'll be at the store the day it comes out, and I'll make my own mind up.

lol... thought so.
I thought Mario 64 was boring, empty and easy. Sunshine was far more challenging, there was more to do, and it looked fantastic.
Obviously, without 64 we'd never have had the improvements in the sequel (it's the same game underneath after all), but anyway, Sunshine ftw!

Yes there are the bigger planets outside of the space atmosphere. The Galaxy is just the HUB world. Go to Gametrailers.com and search "Super Mario Galaxy Developers Walkthrough" to see a a full stage that appears to not be set in space in any way, with blue skies, etc.

Yes it definitely would. I'm happy for you guys(Europe). The wait for Metroid and even Super Paper Mario must be excruciating. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain upon anyone. Galaxy and Hourglass should put some fears to rest at the very least and somewhat make up for the tardiness of the other two. Here's hopin Smash Brothers won't be too far off for you either.

I'm extremely excited for this game and am looking forward to it more than Brawl. Mario Galaxy so far looks to be the true sequel to Mario 64 and even has returning items like the Fire Flower and Starman, plus the Bee Suit which reminds me a lot of SMB3. I may have to take a week off from work once this game gets released.

Here's a video of the "secret" cookie cutter level (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/97780.html?playlist=popular) from the demo disc.
I find it strange that Nintendo reps didn't want people to play it - only selectable by some sort of code. Why bother including it on the disc if you don't want to show it?

And shoemaker, just to sell you that it'll be a great game, here's the stats from the latest Nintendo Power.
There are 120 stars to collect over 40 different galaxies, including a desert, haunted house, honeybee kingdom, and a few set in space.
I'm assuming by these numbers that there will be 3 different objectives in each galaxy, just simple math.
So there won't be very many of those Space-esque "blah" galaxies.

Desert? Haunted House? Will these just be like normal Mario 64-like levels?
I've been looking forward to this game, but the Space theme really has been draining my anticipation. I'd be going mad with excitement right now if it wasn't set in Space.

So it would make a difference if they were simply spheres hanging in the sky instead? =P For me, the setting seems to work perfectly well. Just watching the videos of Mario going from right side up to upside down looks like a lot of fun. Bundle that with spheres of all shapes and sizes, some of which are so big they resemble classic setups (see bee and cookie cutter level videos) and different levels of gravity, it sounds like a sure winner to me.
I just read through the preview in the latest Nintendo Power issue (one of my three free ones) and the more I read/see about the game, the more I want it.

Hey hey hey I never ment the game will be bad. It's just I hope theres lots of storylines and people to talk to like in sunshine, I just can't see a bunch of talking in this game cuz who are you going to talk to aliens. ( that'd be sweet.) I'm looking forward to this game a lot, like even more than brawl. And I really want brawl. Mostly because I really need a good 1-player action game for wii. (even though galaxy is 2-player) So sorry for leading you in the wrong direction.

No I'm pretty sure every single place takes place in space. Just some of the planets are bigger than others. What I want to know is, will there be seperate parts of space as in levels? Will there be an "overworld" like Peach's castle in 64?

Geez, how many times do I have to post this?
There are a few space levels, the Gateway Galaxy, and a few more. The large majority of levels will be classic Mario 64 styles. Have you seen any of the Screenshots of The Honeybee Kingdom, The Desert Galaxy, the Cookie Factory Galaxy, the Haunted House Galaxy, etc? None of these even have stars in the background. In an interview in Nintendo Power a developer said "we'll have planets of all sizes, and when one gets big enough, it essentially feels as though you're walking on flat ground."

I've been debating on whether or not to go back and play more but I really don't want to spoil the first few hours of the game for myself. I even tried to bribe the naive girl that was workin there into selling the "demo" to me,fully knowing that its the entire game. Unfortunately she didn't bite.

Just got back from Gamestop while I was on my break from work. Started playin it again and man....I won't go into details but I love this game already. Anyone else been trying to play the demo as much as I have? I've played all the way up to what I have seen from videos and refuse to play any further, so I've been playing the same hour and a half of gameplay over and over. And yet, it still hasn't gotten old. I'm sure I'll do it again once or twice before its release as well. Believe me when I say this, as I am a hard person to truly impress when it comes to games, this may be one of the best mario games I have ever played.

There is no way I would get Endless Ocean or Link's Crossbow Training over Metroid Prime 3.
However, if you can only pick one of the two (Mario or Metroid), I don't think you could go wrong with either so it's more of a matter of which game would you rather play now rather then later. In the US we were lucky because we got Metroid earlier and it helped that there is a bigger window between the two.

What is the aim of Endless Ocean? I cant find it anywhere. I saw a vid on gametrailers where it shows how you can communicate with each other online - use the d-pad on the remote to flick between pre-made messages, or draw a message on the screen with the remote using it like a pencil - similar to what you can do on zack and wiki when you have 2 remotes.
But like I said, I dont see what the aim of the game is.
Also on Link's Crossbow training, are you European? the game doesnt come out untill December 7th over here

Are you sure you can trade in 3 gameboy/DS titles in for a Wii title? Usually EB's deals consist of trading in 2-3 games for the same system to get a new game for the that same system. I'm 90% sure about this, as I usually trade my games in to get new games. If I'm wrong, please let me know because I have a ton of PS2 games that I could trade in.

But... GAME have a good offer on for when you trade in one of five games, you get it and Olympics cheap. So I was contemplating it for my kid bro and myself.
Basically I'm here to ask a favour.
When you guys in the U.S get it. Is there any chance that someone who doesn't class themselves as biased towards Ninty or Mario. Could PM me or post here. Telling me approximately how long the game is. How hard the game is. If the game seems replayable enough to... *spoiler White text finishes this sentence* play through it again With Luigi. And what the camera is like.
Because I cannot stand the camera on SM 64 yet everyone raves about it. Which is odd because Ninja Gaiden on the X-BOX got slagged off for its camera and it's one of the best camera systems ever.
Full 360 movement with centering buttons and it never gets stuck. What's not to like?

I'd be more than happy to if you trust my judgement. Even though I love SM64 I'll give you an unbiased opinion of it as much as I can. Here is a question though, who the hell raves about the camera in SM64? Its the only thing that holds that game back in my opinion although its excusable because it was the first of its kind.
I've played through 6 stars of SMG and I can tell you there is a vast improvement. There are some instances where the game lets you have complete control of the camera just like in SM64. Only this time there are zero collision issues thanks in part to the spherical layout of alot of the levels. When full control isn't available SMG employs a "smart" camera system where it seems to always know where the camera should be pointed based on your given situation and surroundings. It seems to be pretty advanced as I haven't had a single issue through the two hours of play I've experienced. Also I have read about 5 reviews for the game who said they never once had a problem with the camera throughout the entire game. So expect a huge difference. I'll PM you with more info when I actually get the game next monday...I hope (but hopefully not tuesday).

Yea I already know it too. OH well, its not game breaking or anything but I'm happy to hear about it cause its making me more pumped for this game than ever before. Although I've had to stop myself with watching all these videos on gametrailers. That was starting to get out of hand.
However its not nearly as bad as to how I spoiled myself for Mario 64. I was 11 or 12 at the time and I remember getting a special Mario 64 issue of GamePro that detailed like all of the ways to get each star before the game had even come out. It was impossible to look away because seeing screenshots of Mario 64 for the first time was probably like seeing the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel for the first time.I read like half of them before I realized that this would probably taint my experience of the game. Luckily the game was so incredible it didn't matter how much I read cause I immediately forgot about it once I was running around in 3D heaven for the first time. Although the challenge of the first few worlds was substantially cut in half. So for Galaxy even though I've seen more than a few videos, it only adds up to maybe 20 minutes of gameplay. Plus I've already played most of what I have seen at Gamestop. I've played 5 out of the 120 stars so I'm pretty sure my fresh experience is still preserved.

It's sounding good with the camera, but lifespan and challenge are still big factors. But obviously it'll take you a while to find those out.

Hence why I hate the SSBB daily update, because loads of people post them all over and it really annoys me.
By the time it comes out no one will enjoy playing it. It's like going to see a film for the first time, having had someone read you the script.
And Darth turned to Luke and said "No, Obi Wan killed uour father". That was the original line, George changed it on the day of shooting it.
Hamil's "NOOOOOOO!" was actually to that. Because he didn't tell him or Prowse. So Prowse read the above. Then of course James' voice was dubbed over it saying the now infamous line of "..." like I'm gonna spoil it for the kids who've never seen it
Saw that on a SW docu and was gobsmacked.

I'm glad you said that, because this is something I've been meaning to mention for a while now.
Why is it called "Galaxies"?
All the footage I've saw from all the reviews I've watched, they say that you have "Solar Systems" that lead to "Galaxies" (According to the correct terminology of the game itself). But in actual fact, you have "Solar Systems'" leading to "Planets".
You can't have Solar Systems leading to Galaxies. It doesn't work like that. Galaxies lead to Solar Systems and Solar Systems in turn lead to Planets.

The, uh, astronomy of the game isn't intended to reflect real life.
A "galaxy" is, for the purposes of this game, what a painting was in Super Mario 64. It's a level, and you'll return to it a few times to perform various tasks and collect golden stars. I'm still at the beginning of the game - I'm taking it slow because there's so much to see - but the first galaxy consists of many small asteroid-size planets that you can travel to via launch stars, and the second is one larger main level with some small asteroid-sized ones hanging off of it.
A few different "galaxies" form a "solar system," and you access each system from a door in the observatory starship, which is essentially the hub world that the castle was in Mario 64. So far I've only seen the first system, but it seems that you have to visit a certain galaxy within that system first, and once you acquire so many stars you can access the next, and then the next, etc.

Hope this doesn't spoil much but I'll explain the best I can how the galaxy system works.
Well, for starters, it's sort of like Mario 64s paintings. The paintings would be the galaxy in this game. Each unique in their own way and each containing X amount of stars and planetoid masses for Mario to run around on. Before you get to the individual galaxy though, you see a map screen that shows all the different galaxies in that particular section of space and how many stars it will take to unlock the other galaxies (sort of like the stars on the doors to the painting rooms in 64.) I wouldn't call these areas solar systems though. It's more like a region of space with several galaxies in each region.
Demon, I also remember you being concerned about the difficulty. I consider myself somewhat of a hardcore gamer and I've died several times by either falling into a black hole or just getting killed by Goombas. Mario only can take 3 hits before he dies unlike previous games where it seemed losing a life was impossible. I'm sure as the game progresses the challenge will pick up as well, which I look forward too. I think most reviews stated that you can get the required number of stars to beat the game fairly easily but completing the game with all the stars takes dedication and skill. So far, I could see that being the case. It's a game I think both the casual and hardcore crowd can play, enjoy and appreciate for different reasons.

I can vouch for this. I'm about 25 stars in and the difficulty is no easier than when I played SM64 for the first time. Theres something to be said of a difference between a game being challenging and frustrating. Sure there are some cookie cutter stars but SM64 had those too. Even the easiest of challenges are still rewarding because this game just makes it so fun to do it. But I can see the challenge significantly increasing as I go along. I can get 120 stars in a matter of hours in SM64 and I have died a fair share of times in Galaxy. So there is definitely an appropriate challenge level here. Besides even if something is a little easy here and there the game is always engaging and just a blast to play.

Nope. I beat most of them. Games are getting easier. Vania 1 is nightmarishly hard. On last level and can't beat the first section. Wheras TP, I didn't die. WW I died a few times, but it was to short and to easy. Sidequests stunk too. Starfox Adventures just lacks something. It just doesn't grip you. Assault, the walking was terrible and the flying had been changed. Pikmin 2, inf time. It killed the game for me. Sunshine, short and easy. Repetitive and stupid (F.L.U.D.D and Yoshi fruit need + alergin to Water). Jungle Beat was gimmicky crap. My head's pounding, I'm really struggling trying to think of games for it, help.
Excitetruck = Crash To Win. Rabbids was great, so was Wario. But both were pathetically short and had no replayabillity (Usually I would play a Wario for months. And this, I didn't even get all the games). But Rabbids wasn't Ninty, so no idea why I added that.
I just prefer it. Same with the SNES. SES sounds stupid ;p

Well there is a reason why I never come here. The Metroid post was the first time I'd posted here since it was open. Then I spotted this post and realised that it was out soon, so someone might be able to help me.
And it's not new games that I dislike. It's new Ninty games. X-BOX, 360, PS2 and PS3 all have some truly amazing games for them, and they're new. NGC just had nothing. I think I liked 4 first party titles. SSBM, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin and... The OOT bonus disc
Dying doesn't make a game good. But not dying doesn't make it good either. Would you honestly prefer to be able to go through every game without ever failing a section?
Because if that were the case, then what would be the point in buying it?
I like to be challenged by a game. I like to be made to think or be made to alter my tactics or something, that makes me stop and think "Running forward pushing attack really isn't working here".
It's why I dislike Heaveny Sword. Because you can beat the game by just running around pushing Square.
Ninja Gaiden however. You have to use some tactics to your attacks. You have to block and dodge everything. You have to use Ninpo's wisely. You have to upgrade your kit and use your side arms carefully.
Twilight, I just ran around waving my arms and I managed to beat the game.
Ninty just don't do it for me anymore. It's a shame, because I play the likes of OOT and ALTTP, Bros. 3 and World, and then I play Sunshine and WW and it's like "Where did it all go so wrong?". It boggles the mind.
And the best thing about old games is, that different levels can be challenging at different times. I usually breeze through W6's ship, but I've just died about 10 times trying to beat it. Then W7-1 where I always die alot, I've just done it in 3. And as Small Mario.
Because I love playing games. I've always been a die hard gamer, and I probably always will be.

I understand. Nintendo is making a lot of easy games now. Their trying to make games for everyone, but everyone includes us hardcore gamers. they mostly focus on makeing games 5 year olds can understand, but that's not good for us because then they make them too easy or to kiddy and playful. But once and a while Nintendo dose make a game that is good for everyone. One of them is Galaxy. it's meant for all. it's easy at first and you can beat the game without getting all of the stars (so Nintendo says) and its a challenge for the people who are trying to get all stars, and it's not too kiddy and not too playful ( I think because i still haven't played it). and yes twilight princess was really easy. I never died all of the special moves you get you barely use, and the puzzles weren't to challenging. But still I loved it. sometimes it doesn't matter if the game is too easy, it's how it's made and how cool it is. twilight princess has really good music well made dungeons and nice new graphics. and the story is really good.Plus I loved it when link put his sword (I don't know if i spelled it write.) away all cool. Same with wind waker. Honestly wind waker may be my favorite Zelda because i love sailing on water and finding treasure. but Phantom Hourglass I love. It has a nice story funny and a well made controlling system. But it's being a little short and a little easy. sunshine was not an easy game. unless you went for all the cheep stars (shinesprites) it's not easy. have you gotten all of the shinesprites? But ANYWAYS what I'm trying to say is a game being easy isn't all bad unless it completely sucked. But being a challenge is a good thing to have. LM was a launch game, it was fresh and new so I enjoyed it alot. I tryed to play through it again a couple weeks back and wasn't enjoying it anywhere near as much as when I first got it.
Consitency. Maybe you should be telling Ninty that word.
Metroid's the only Ninty series (I think) where they haven't made a stinker. Sure the controls sucked something rotten in Prime's 1 and 2, but you could persist through them because of the games greatness. Unfortunatly though, 2 did finish me.
Ratchet And Clank has consistency. KOTOR has consistency. As much as I hate Halo, it has consistency. It gives the fans what they want. It gives the fans what they love about the game. But rather than doing a million sequels so that the game gets boring. They kill it off and start again with something else.
Quite frankly, if Sony do another RAC then IMO they'd be mad. Because people will start to get sick of it.
Ah, just thought of another series. SSB. So far they've yet to kill SSB, although they're trying. I cannot stand this Snake and other non Ninty characters thing. What's next? The MC? Gordon Freeman? Dante? Marcus Phoenix? Cloud and Sepiroth?
But, it might work. Although I personally think they'd be mad to do more than 4 SSB's. But knowing Ninty, SSB will have about another 10.
The thing I love most about the whole Ninty argument is this. "Oh, so you don't want games to ever change? Ninty are changing games with the Wii, they're giving games a new life". Exactly what part of Galaxy is fresh?
For the third time you have to collect 120 things. For the 700th time Mario has to rescue the Princess. For the 700th time Bowser will think he's unbeatable.
What the hell is new and fresh about that? Other than waggling your pad, nothing much. Gravity has been done before. Planets has been done before.
And yes, I am now looking forward to it and I hope it arrives tomorrow. But come on. "Ninty are changing the way we play games" How?

WW I hated the sailing, I actually had ALTTP in Sleep mode all the time I was playing WW. Because as soon as I had to sail, I'd just set it in the direction and bung the GBA one. I got ALTTP 2 days before WW and I beat it through WW. The treasure hunting was pathetic "Oh, go hunt for 8 triforce pieces" why not "Go and do 8 dungeons for 8 triforce pieces"? And again, I hated the story and the music. But the art was mint.

Haha okay first of all, longest post ever. Now Demon I'll reserve my judgement for now on a few things you've said because I don't have alot of time at the moment. I agree on a few things and strongly disagree on a few others. I'll toss in my copper later. But I do want you to reconsider your perspective of Galaxy and freshness. Sure all those things have been done before but definitely not to this degree. Its different I just can't explain it. And for someone who hasn't played the game you really can't make that call at the moment. This is one of the most refreshing gaming experiences I've had in a long long time. Last generation seriously bored me. This generation was starting to do the same until now. This game is setting the bar for the Wii and Nintendo itself. Once you see the level design in this game youre going to be screaming FRESH.

Unfortunatly I've worded it very badly. I'm having one of those cases where I know exactly what I mean, but wording it coherently is a different matter.
I mean in general, the Wii isn't offereing anything particularly new anymore. It's always the same old same old now. Even the reviewers are starting to get sick of waggling on every game. Several times I've seen the ports described as "It's the same PS2 game you had last year, but now with added waggle".
I know though, long post. I've tryed shortening it. I have edited it because I had repeated myself without realising it. So believe it or not, but it was longer
I'm just sick of always hearing that Ninty are doing all these special things, and they're, well, they're not.
10 years ago, yeah, they were breaking boundries. But since then, it's been a slow steady decline. Whilst people like Bethesda, Bioware, Insomniac and many others have been coming up with fresh new games.
Unfortunatly, Ninty are now catering to a different audience. It's clear that they're trying to cater for both. But so far, they're just not managing it. I know I've yet to play Galaxy. But everything so far, has been simpled down for a non gamer.
I think, well, I hope, that they one day will find a way to cater to both. But it's clear that it's taking a while for them to do so.
Personally, I think they should start releasing 2 versions of every game. A casual version and a hardcore version

I've edited my post so that I can correct spelling and just bung it all in one. Again, may contain spoilers!!!
I say may, because it depends on what you class as a spoiler. I've heard some basic stuff that had people going mental on the poster for not warning them.
Anyway...
This is basically everything that I can remember, that I've felt about the game so far.
Wasn't really dissorientated at the start, but getting used to what did have gravity and what didn't took a while. Dove into black holes many a time at the beggining. Still do to be fair and honest, lol.
The camera is the best in a 3D Mario, but it's still not perfect. It can be dicky/dickie at times.
The music is fantastic, even on our crap sounding T.V (Soon to be repaired hopefully).
The graphics are alright. Great for Wii, but nothing compared to Heavenly Sword, Bioshock, etc... Some set pieces do look fantastic though.
Some parts however, look soooo hard, but then just aren't. Which is dissapointing. Quite dissapointing. I haven't been majorly challenged, but I have been challenged at times. I can see it getting harder after the first 60 though, because it has been getting harder (at times) as I've gone on. so no complaints about dificulty... Yet *twisted evil smiley*
Having so many Galaxies/Levels is actually making me want to play it non stop (Although I have had to stop from time to time. Was shattered at one point, so I tryed to wake myself up a bit before continueing).
I'm really enjoying playing it and I'm wanting to play it as much, because it's not getting boring! You barely have to replay the levels.
The maximum amount of Stars per Planet is 5. And even when you are replaying them for other Stars, they're totally different. Sometimes the only similarity is your starting point. And I say sometimes, because othertiimes nothing is alike.
I'm a little dissapointed at the checkpoints. Sure it makes it less irritating, but it also makes it easier. SM 64 made you start again. And while in 64 it was a pain. Galaxy, the levels are about the right size to have that punishment IMO.
The gameplay is amazing at the moment. Really enjoying it. REALLY! Enjoying it.
The time trial comets though... suck. I've had 2 of them now and I've had over a minute of time left on both.
The speed up enemies comet. Well, on the level I've had it on, it actually made it easier.
The dare devil comets (The 1 hit and you're dead ones) though... Nice *cool smiley* I've yet to have a race shadow Mario comet.
I'm a little dissapointed at the motion controls on the Manta Ray. Considering how sensitive Wario Ware was, I was expecting better. The Ball is alright, but the Manta is a lil sluggish IMO.
The co-op mode... Is so bloody ANNOYING! Because it IS so bloody ANNOYING! To have a Yellow star waving infront of you all of the damn time. And while my lil bro did save me once or twice, he totally screwed me over on a Bullet Bill puzzle section *mad smiley*
Speaking of which, the first true boss. Is so pathetically easy. I accidentally cheated my way to a win. I won't say how, but I will say that there's a much easier way to do him in. I really wasn't trying to do what I done though, not at all. I was trying to do it right and... Poof.
The game is slowly getting more challenging though, which is good.
At 40 stars now, fully completed the first 3 "Solar Systems" (-_-) now. Taking a break for now, letting Panda do some Duty while I come here.
Oh, anyone not believing that I'm at 40 after 6 hours and 50 mins...

The way I have been playing Galaxy reminds me of how I played 64. I remember having fun just moving around with Mario on the 64...swimming, running, jumping, ex. I find myself doing kind of the same thing on Galaxy. Not performing jumps, or running, or swimming but exploring the physics of space. I've owned the game since Monday night and I only have 3 stars to show for it. Its because I find myself just moving around and looking at everything. I love jumping off of planets to see what happens. Do I fall into a black hole, does Mario jump higher, or does gravity pull Mario back onto the planet...or does Mario land on the other side of the planet?
Simply put......I'm having fun and I can't wait until I get home late tonight to play it again.

I got the PAL version today... Quite a nice game, and one day earlier than expected. :P
Also, I can't believe this game is cheaper than, say, Super Mario World back when it was released.
EDIT: By the way, it updates the firmware yet again, even if you had updated it with Metroid Prime 3. No idea what the changes are, though.

In regrads to the difficulty: There are times when I finished a platforming sequence and thought to myself, man I wish that was just a little bit more challenging. And then there are the Luigi assisted stars. Cute idea for the beginners but they really bugged me. Hmmmm look at this picture and see if you can figure out where Luigi is? Kind of defeats the purpose when you show everything around where Luigi is too. But there are only like 3 of these so its defiinitely forgivable. However, when I wasn't being as challenged as I would have liked ( which doesn't even really happen too often) the game never seems dull because of it. When it happens the main thing that I think of and really forgives it in the first place is that its still just so much fun to play. I can say with no ego that I'm a fairly seasoned SM64 player and I have died more than just a handful of times.
Demon: how many of the speed up comets have you played? I imagine they get more demanding on the harder levels. I only played one or two of the speed up comets and I too had like a minute leftover on each. Hope that changes.
One thing I would like to mention is that the Purple Coin challenges are more than just filler stars and they certainly surpass the feeling of being a chore (like the 100 coin stars in SM64). There are some design changes in each level and they really make you explore and utilize all that the level has to offer. It makes you use more demanding techniques as well. The perfectly timed triple jump and Backflip + Spin are essential to getting some of these coins.
Possible Minor Spoiler: For example in Beehive Galaxy things get much harder right off the bat. For one there is no more Bee suit to use. Some things that assist you in getting to hard to reach areas are removed, such as the flagpole. So its a challenge just to figure out how to get to some places that were previously easily accessible in the regular form of the Galaxy. The coins are also laid out in a very clever fashion. At the highest part of the level there was a ledge about the width of Mario himself that had two coins resting there. It was too dangerous to Triple Jump cause the ledge was too thin for error. So I had to put my back agaisnt it and backflip and then spin right after. Took me a couple tries but I finally landed safely on the ledge. And then and only then, once I collected the coins the camera shifted and showed the backside of the top part of the level. I could then see that the bottom half of the level was right below me and an area that was previously too high to reach (which had more coins to collect) was now just a long fall away. This was one of two Purple Coin stars I tried and I hope the rest of them are just as clever and rewarding to do. Also I should note that it took me like 20 to 25 minutes to find them all so there is plenty of challenge and plenty of length. These levels really seem to push the boundaries of all the obstacles present within each area. Try em out let me know what you think.

How does having infinite time kill the Pikmin 2 expierience? Too lazy to find the quote. Anyway, Galaxy isn't too hard. It gets annoying that you only have a 3 health pieces and coins are so scattered.

Its no easier than Mario 64 in my opinion. I think some of the things that made SM64 hard were just design flaws/oversights (the lift platforms were buggy at times, the camera, and Mario not turning in correspondence to the way you are pushing the joystick when Mario is facing a certain way, etc....).Also Galaxy boasts better control of Mario and better overall responsiveness. Being able to control your long jumps make things a little easier but it feels alot more intuitive.

I'm on star twenty now. Still waiting on the difficulty to ramp up a bit. That doesn't mean I haven't died a few times here and there. It's fun, though, to go through all these highly creatively designed levels, so I have no complaints. I'm still not tired of being able to jump around a platform one-and-half times via long jump. Neato.

Because in Pikmin, it made you want to play. Pikmin 2, I just didn't want to play. Because I knew I had time to mess about. I'd do 1 in 20 days. 2, I was at about 30 and was only at 7 K.

The wall jump is sooo much better too. Some prick was actually slagging SMG off because of all you just said. And what's worse is that he's a Ninty fanboy 0_0

Well it arrived today.
First of all, credit where credit is due, it is very similar to those space-themed gravity-changing levels in Sonic Adventure 2, only better and much less frustrating. I can't believe that so few people have mentioned the similarities. And that's
