This game looks incredible.
I can't wait.
Here's a pattern I noticed

SMB (Great, classic fun. Tried something new with the franchise.)
SMB2 (Referring to the USA one. Experimented with a new system and was still a good game.)
SMB3 (Went back to the classic formula but improved on it with new features and was the best of the lot.)

So, if you take this pattern and apply it to the 3D Mario titles, it would look like this:

SM64 (Great, classic fun. Tried something new with the franchise.)
SMSunshine (Experimented with a new system and was still a good game.)
And hopefully...

SMG (Went back to the classic formula but improved on it with new features and will be the best of the lot.)

If I'm right this game will be off the hook!

I started this thread so people could voice what they hope or think will be in the game.

Personally, I hope there are a whole lot of the big galaxies like the Honeybee Kingdom. (full developers walkthrough on gametrailers.com)

I think what we've seen in the majority of trailers, the huge galaxy with stars and all, is the home world, and then you try to progress from there to each smaller galaxy that are each dependent on one single theme.

Think about it, Mario 64 had the Castle, and Sunshine had Delfino Plaza.

It just makes sense.

Theories?

At this E3 Ninty did indirectly diss Sunshine...
Reggie Fils-Aime: "In one sense, this is the first worthy successor to Super Mario 64"

So the future looks good for Mario id say. Now lets X the fingers for EU to get it released before Xmas.

Do you think that's going to be it or do you think Nintendo is going to surprise us with more suits?

of course there will be tons of more suits..

i love how they brought back the suits. nintendo knew what they needed to do to put mario back on top.

and for the first post.

mario 2 wasnt an "experiment." the style and gameplay were already programmed and ready to launch with another game (not reltated to mario). nintendo decided to take it over and slap their characters and nintendo name on it. its a great game, but i still lack respect for it.

Trivia: What was the other game I'm talking about supposed to be named?

I'm hoping for a sort of platforming version of Elite or Damocles, but we'll see. I'm not hugely fond of 3D platformers in any case, so Galaxy won't be a must-buy for me.

Er... maximum respect for talking of historic gems, but 'a platforming version of a sandbox-space-simulation'?

This is a rather original concept, I can't even imagine a game like that. Are you just high or a brilliant game design idea came to you?

Heh. :)

No, that's just the kind of impression I get from what I've heard of SMG. I'm probably completely off, but something like Damocles filtered through a platformer style of gameplay would be the kind of game I'd really enjoy.

This game looks great! I just hope the gameplay will NOT be similar to the planet-roaming levels in Sonic Adventure 2...

I actually really enjoyed Sunshine. I thought it was a nice story and change of pace from the normal Mario landscape. I think Mario is good in 2D or 3D. My B-day is at the end of October so this couldn't come at a better time.

I didn't like 64 (or most 3D platformers) at all, but I really liked Sunshine. Go figure.
