Just downloaded SMB3. for a slice of classic gaming only to discover that when i run it the image jerks up and down constantly, so it's basically unplayable!! I've tried changing the display settings but no change. Any suggestions??

There's already a thread discussing the matter here: http://www.vc-forums.com/showthread.php?t=3462

Good work Shortay.
And there does seem to be some sort of 'bordering' but I'm on World 3 (with both Warp whictles, I just wanna see the levels I can), So I don't find it unplayable.

Cheers for the link but having read that page this is definitely a different matter. On that thread it's the borders at each side of the screen that are jerking when you move, i've heard of this sort of thing.
However, my problem is that constantly, i.e even on the title screen when i'm not touching anything, the whole screen is basically jumping up and down a couple of times a second. It's moving by at least a centimetre so as i said before it's not exactly playable.

Are you PAL or NTSC, and what kind of TV have you got?

Does this mean all Smb3 games have problems?

PAL, Philips LCD. Just using the cable that came with the wii, putting it through scart doesn't make any difference. It's really strange. Wii works brilliantly, image is fine. Click on Mario Bros. 3 and once it comes up the screen goes mental?!

Well I've been having problems with Bros. 3.
Not just the screen, but these are some of the things that have happened to me very recentally.
I hit a block, a FF came out, shot into the air, the block dissapeared, it then came back down but was now Blue, and kept bouncing where the block should've been.
And because I was on a ship, by the time it came back down, I'd have died had I stayed to get it.
I've just been killed by the big fish on world 3, because the vine that takes you upto a music block containing a mushroom/FF, stopped growing half way towards the block, and I got swallowed because of it.
I've hit blocks where the FF has came out and it's dissapeared. So that I couldn't collect them.
And I'm sure there was something else, but it's gone. Nope, totally forgot it. If I remember...

I guess you've contacted Nintendo about all this already?
I remember somebody else talking about the screen going up and down constantly in Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels, by the way... But I can't remember who it was or how did he fix the problem.
Have you tried turning interlace mode on?

I've tried all the different possible tv settings if that's what you mean?

Go to the instructions manual, plug the nunchuk and press A+B+Z+1.
Or perhaps it was A+B+Z+2 for interlace... Try both, you'll hear a sound when each is activated.

Alas i tried that before but didn't realise you needed to be in the manual.
All is well now. Many Thanks!!

No point. Every e-mail I've ever sent to them, well, I've never ever had a single responce about anything.
I forgot to link my Wii to my club account, so I have 50+ VC games not on my account.
Someone said "Contact Ninty and they'll chuck them on for you".
It's been 4 months now, and still no e-mail or anything from them. My account is still missing the 50+ games.
So unless you know of a "direct live chat with Ninty link", then I don't think I'll waste my time.
Sonic 2 has a glitch that ends the game if you jump on the first Purple dinosaur you see on 5-2.

I agree, but unfortunatly even when I do tell them, they don't fix a thing.
How many people have wrote in to them and SEGA about Sonic 2?
I know of quite a few, and there's still no update to fix it. And when was it launched? About 5 months ago? Well, 5 SEGA days ago.
Unfortunatly, Ninty aren't exactly the greatest as listening to there customers. Despite Sony getting the worst rep ever, everytime I've dealt with them, they've been fantastic.
It makes you wonder how they get this awful rep.

I'm not sure about Nintendo of Europe but here in the States, Nintendo customer service is excellent. I've dealt with them a few times and I've always had a friendly, professional person to help me out. Maybe you should try calling them and not sending e-mails?

Might do, because now enemies aren't showing up! Just done the boot level with only one boot fella appearing. The one who's supposed to be trapped had obviously broke out and hopped to Mexico.

NoE sucks in this departement, sorry.
They just talk the problem out of the world, if they even reply. (But NoE Germany replied on my non linked titles and said, that it's not possible to get my other (huge amount of VC Titles) linked with the other 3.

That was me, and I never did manage to fix it, but I think I was using the wrong button combination to switch to Interlace mode. I'll give it another go tonight, and bear it in mind when I get the chance to DL SMB3.
Incidentally, how did anyone find out how to do this?

The only problem I have is a black border that runs from the top to bottom on the left side of the screen no matter what the "stretch" settings are at.
Not that big of a deal but irritating none the less.

Do you have your "screen position" settings at "+ something", by any chance?

I wouldn't have noticed unless i read this thing. of course after a while i would figure it out then make a new thread call Nintendo just to find out it's happening to everyone.

I don't think so because all the other games are centered.

So you have a shakey screen and the left blue border
Bonesaw

So you have a shakey screen and the left blue border
It's actually a green border on the left side- the same color green that makes up parts of the background of the first level. Also, I don't know if the original was this bad, but man- the coloring of this game is BLAND.
I'm going to take a picture and post it later.
EDIT:
Here we go.

and
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/608/im000733uk0.jpg
In the first picture, you can see that the border is off on the left. That background blue bar stays on the screen even when moving forward.
In the second pic, you can see that the left border thing is still there and there is glitchy white bordering that flashes on the right side of the screen. What's up Nintendo?

That looks correct. It's just that old TVs partly hide those parts of the screen.

Finally maanged to pocket SMB3 this weekend, and it's running fine without any screen jumping. Must just be SMB2 (the only Hanabi festival game I downloaded) that messes with my TV.
But yeah, the colours look a bit faded. Doesn't stop the game being fun though.

I'm not sure it's a display problem. I've been getting similar issues, and it's not just a case of weird borders, jumping visuals and the like. There are graphical glitches all over the place, blocks appearing where they shouldn't, sprites displaying incorrectly, and so on.
I emailed Nintendo UK about it, but no response as yet. It's the only NES game I've had any issues with.

It worked for him, as he stated many posts above.

If the whole image is jumping up and down, then it's what I had with SMB:LL, which can be solved by switching the display format.
But I never had any problems with blocks appearing where they shouldn't, or sprites displaying incorrectly. Sounds like a different issue to me.
