Great game

Can't wait for its return to the market. The old MS2 sadly doesn't connect to scart so can't play it on BIG tv.

The Wii Shop Channel has confused me. They say that this game was made after the Mega Drive ones, because they say it has all of the same levels as that one, but with new ones as well. Which makes no sense as I'm certain the Master System was made before the Mega Drive.

The Genesis game came out first. Like a lot of populare SEGA games it was ported/remade to/for the SMS afterwards so that they could make more money in places such as Brazil because the SMS was their console of choice.

Unlike the awful Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic 2, Sonic 1 is actually worth playing. I'm also glad to finally be able to play the Master System version (why on Earth did SEGA put the Game Gear versions of these games on Sonic Adventure DX?), since the resolution actually allows you to see more than five pixels around Sonic in any direction. I don't think the Master System is anywhere near as good a game as the Genesis title, but still a solid game.

Agreed. I'd go as far to say that Sonic 1 MS > Sonic 1 MD/GEN.

One difference from the Game Geam and SMS version was during the second log level where Sonic had to travel upwards.

In the SMS version, every time he travels up, the screen follows up as well. But if you attempt to travel down, the screen starys where it is. If you touch the bottom edge of the TV, you die casuing me to throw my contoller out the window (Metal Slug 1 had a similiar problem in the thrid level as well...).

In the Game Gear version, this bug was fixed and Sonic could travel down from that level and the screen would follow.

It wasn't a bug it was part of the game, it was removed from the Game Gear version because the field of view is smaller which would make it too difficult (or impossible) to complete without moving down.

Let me see if I can straighten this out:

1986 - Sega releases the Master System.

1988 - Sega releases the Mega Drive in Japan, and in North America a year later under the Genesis name.

June/July 1991 - Sonic The Hegehog, the first Sonic game, comes out for the Mega Drive/Genesis.

October 1991 - Capitalizing on the success of the Genesis game, Sega releases Sonic The Hedgehog for their older, less-powered Master System.

The Master System did come first. But the Master System version of Sonic game after the Genesis version. Kind of like how certain games are still being released on next-gen systems as well as the PS2 nowadays. There was still a small market for a down-graded Sonic on the older system, so they catered to it.

It's not surprising at all. The Master System was popular well into the 90's, the Mega Drive and Game Gear could both play Master System games with adapters as well. There was a good market for Master System games for a long while after the Mega Drive was launched, the proof being how well this game sold and that there were two more Sonic games on MS after this.

Great game. Either this or Sonic Chaos (Sonic & Tails) was the best Sonic on the MS.

Well, Europe now has it, so I ve downloaded it. Its pretty nice, a big different to the GG version, which I found unappealing on a TV. Just play real nicely.

Bring on the rest of Sonic's SMS games! His Game Gear stuff can wait till after the SMS games.

I think it's a great idea, seeing as how the original cartridge is one of the rarest games EVUR (purposefully mispelled).
