One day I only had 500 blocks of memory left on my wii. Then I downloaded the updated everybody votes channel and the internet channel. And once I was done downloading I had 798 blocks. So it's weird it's like i gained memory for downloading more things. Is it because the updated channels take less memory or is it just an error im really confused, has anything like this ever happened to any one here?

I noticed something like that but with a minor difference than yours.
Anyway, yes that's called optimization.
When you write a routine there's always more than way to do that task with less instructions and better performances.
Eventually one can inplement more economic routines in future versions of the program.
(on my Wii, sorry for the brevity)

Strange that it's that much...I think I was standing still in the amount blocks left. Well, you got more blocks, use them ;)

Yeah, it's happened to me too. I have no idea why it's happening, but I'd guess that whatever bit of code they've got checking the remaining memory isn't working quite right.

I got the feeling that in calculating the remaining blocks it goes by simple substraction, while in reality a program may be updated.
An example:
Your Wii Memory - 100 blocks
Random Channel v1 - 50 blocks
Hence you have 50 free blocks.
Update of RandomChannel v2 - 49 blocks
The Wii shop will tell you that you will have 1 free block after the download, but the program goes substituting the old version, so at the end of the download you will have 51 free blocks.
Just an impression, but it would make sense.

Dont quite understand but I do a little. Maybe the updated channels don't need as much blocks.

Yeah, I agree with you there neuzd, but I find it suprising that it's by 1 or 2 hundred blocks, if they've improved with like 10 blocks it would be a different story.
Although, I don't look that close on my block, so I might've missed that I've got more than I did before. Well as long as I have room I'm happy :)

Yeah I guess whatever neuzd said is happening, because I downloaded sonic 2 yesterday and I had 750 blocks and the game was 102 blocks so I should have had 648 blocks left but instead I have 725 blocks. And for that I am very happy.
