The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is filled to the brim with a slew of platforming games such as Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, and Kirby Super Star. Well, there are some you have never noticed. Example: Ever hear of Plok? I though not. These undiscovered platforming gems I wrote about here are some of the best around; I would even dare say better than Nintendo's.

DoReMi Fantasy

DoReMi Fantasy is the official sequel to Milon's Secret Castle for the NES. There are a few differences between this and Milon's Secret Castle though; the main difference being this one is actually a good game that is worth your time and money.

The goal of this game is to obtain all six musical stars. The room where you find these stars are either filled with enemies or obscurely constructed to make it harder to get. You can finish the level without a musical star, though then you will have no hope of progressing through the game. Without a musical star, you can't find the world boss and move on to another world! Thought it was easy didn't you?

The fighting system is somewhat like a Pseudo Super Mario World - Bubble Bobble game. Once you jump on an enemy, they topple over. Afterwards, you must encase them in a bubble to get rid of them for good. If you are hit by an enemy once, there is no need to worry as you can take three hits before you die...most of the time. There are stronger enemies to battle throughout DoReMi Fantasy who can deplete your lifebar down faster than the basic baddies.

DoReMi Fantasy is shined up to the highest degree possible. The sprites in this game are incredibly well animated that they seem to embed you into the game. You know what I mean, its like you really are Milon.

There are seven worlds ranging from an arctic mountain to an odd pastel toy land with multiple levels in this amazing platformer. And with that, you can be assured this will keep you busy for a long while, trust me.
Plok

Despite its oddly Dr. Seuss-ish looks, Plok is a wonderful platformer. The main character, Plok, whom the game is named after, looks somewhat like a hangman, except without a huge, scary, and downright criminalistic axe with a tubby, yellow torso and--- a tail. Plok’s secret weapon is the ability to shoot his limbs at his enemies. Sound familiar? That’s right kids; Plok is a lot like our friend Rayman! Another notable attack of Plok’s is to make an air-cutting jump that destroys the baddies and also increases his speed.

When Plok awakes one morning, he notices his grandfather’s old flag, obviously a family heirloom, was definitely stolen by the evil Bobbins Brothers. Plok travels to Cotton Island, where the Bobbins Brothers reside, and defeats them, only to come back and see his home island of Akrillic has been taken under siege by overly large fleas! His house being burglarized was simply a decoy so the fleas could enter Akrillic. Now Plok must travel through Akrillic and save it from the fleas!

Very much like coins, Plok must collect shells which, if he gathers enough, grant Plok an extra life. Other items take the form of ‘presents’ which powers Plok up. Presents include a flamethrower, twin handguns, and even vehicles to ride! Wow, isn’t THAT violent? Haha.

The music in this game is also enjoyable beyond explanation. You should really try it out, once again I’ll say, despite its looks.

Ardy Lightfoot
http://www.coolrom.com/screenshots/snes/Ardy%20Lightfoot.gif
Ardy Lightfoot is a game unlike any other. Why? ITS ODD BEYOND REASON. You play as Ardy, a fox who is, well, lightfooted and his best friend, the penguin Pec. Pec is more of a weapon than playable really. Ardy throws him at enemies and well, Pec bites and sometimes--- eats them. That's right! You can also use Pec as a support item by making him a hot air balloon to lift Ardy up etc. The story you ask? Alright then...

The rainbow has shattered into seven pieces and Ardy and Pec have to retrieve them all to restore the rainbow. The greedy King Viscotti wants all of the pieces for himself and therefore sends out several other bad guys and gals to do the dirty work for him. Don't worry Ardy and Pec have friends to help them along the way like Don Jacoby, an adventurer.

See? Told you it was odd beyond reason! This really is a good game though, which is why I put it on this list...obviously.

Ah yes, I remember Hook. Too bad it'll never be released on the VC due to it being Sony property.

Yes, that it is. But is it really considered a platformer? Heheh. I should remake this as a Top 10 SNES Underscovered Gems shouldn't I?

actually it's battletoads in battlemaniacs.

yeah, I love plok's soundtrack. especially the Akrillic song for Dreamy Cove (i think it was called.) That one had great guitar, even if it was prog.

In fact the best SNES platformer that I remember is Violinist, from Enix, only released in Japan; you play as a guy with a violin as a weapon/tool that goes everywhere with a girl that can be transformed into different animals to solve some puzzles; the game has some of the best graphics on the system (mainly because it was released in 1995) and it's a very fun game.

Its not like this post is anywhere near similar to my thread here. Go ahead.

That sounds very good. But since its Japan only, that would mean it was Super Famicom, rendering it useless for this list.

You've gave me an idea to make a 'Top 10 Super Famicom Games' though. Thanks for that.

I think the super famicon and the super nintendo are pretty much regarded as the same console.

Yep, and the EU SNES has the same casing as the SF too, unlike that horrible purple monstrosity the poor Americans got. ;)

I liked it. who cares what it looked like, it was a great system, and we got more good games than EU did so, i'm happy :-p

*cough* Chrono Trigger *cough*

I refer the learned gentleman to Terranigma's release. ;)

And Chrono Trigger's no good if you're playing it on the Big Purple Breadbox of Doom...

Mr. Nutz and Bubsy were both excellent games, but they're both completely ignored now =[
I'm hoping for VC releases, but I doubt it'll ever happen.
