Hey Retro gamers!
I would like to know whom is out there that collects old systems and games? Please make yourself known :):)
I just picked up a original NES with ROB and gyromite and light gun (the grey one) This is the exactly same one I got for christmas in 1984 (or 85? gotta ask my mom) I will be posting pixs later today...
I will be locating games and a SNES in the upcoming weeks. I found out theres a retro store about 30 or 40 minutes away... gotta plan on doing that...

Fair bit. I got a Saturn months ago, mainly to play Nights and Magic Knight Rayearth, but now I may go and build a Saturn libary. I sometimes buy N64 games that ll never reach the VC (Liecenced games, Rare, etc.) anytime soon, if not never.
I m intending to buy Pokemon Edition GBs/DSs at some point (When earn more money. lol.)

Wow I'm pretty impressed! If I had kept all my old systems I'd have all that except SMS, TG16 and 3DO (had friends who had them) I am collecting them for old times sake! and to be able to play games such as Chrono Trigger
My current library includes
NES Delxue system (ROB and grey light gun, Gyromite and duck hunt)
Sega Genesis (in need of some repair)
N64
Wii (of course!)
will be seeking a SNES, 32X (loved virtua racing delxue) and my friend can sell me back my old saturn (he still got it!!)
EDIT: I just got the saturn yesterday with 15 games (including virtua cop with light gun) WHOOOOO!!!
plan to get a TG16 from that same friend (he just had 2 babies) later this week even tho I dont like the TG16 (pce)
then will be starting the hunt for a super NES!

I started collecting retro games/systems in general a few years ago (I didn't own many games before so most of it is 2nd hand), and now I've decided to mostly focus on Sega consoles, because I can never own everything. I have a Master System, Mega Drive + Mega CD (original versions), Saturn, Dreamcast (just missing 32X and Game Gear). And non-Sega I have SNES, N64, Game Boy, PS1, PS2, Xbox and Gamecube.
Some games cost next-to nothing these days, so I go out from time to time to see what I can find in shops and if I'm lucky end up coming home with 10 cheap games and paying only £20 or so. They might not be games I thought of getting but the chances are 1 or 2 will be worth-while, and even if they're bad games they're still welcome in my collection for historical value. And so your collection can grow easily like that. The main limitation, and what prevents me from having a huge collection, is space to store it all. Unfortunatly there are less places to buy cheap retro games these days. Of course more rare/desirable games cost a lot more, and I do buy the occasional expensive game if it's one I really want.
I still need to buy a Game Gear and 32X, and some more import stuff which I'm lacking in at the moment. These days I think I'm more into collecting games than actually playing them.

SNES (am about to start building up that collection), N64 (35+ games), Gamecube (40+ games), Wii, GBA, DS (Original) and original breadbox Commodore 64 with disk drive AWWW yeah ;-) the C64 and Snes are going to be my main focuses, with a NES plus games and GB/GBC + games following shortly after.

A friend of mine had the R.O.B.—we got a kick out of Gyromite. I wonder if they could make a VC version work.
For the record, I think at least half of those systems don't work (either that's why they were originally shelved, or else the years collecting dust in the closet haven't been good to them).

22nd March 2008, 06:59 AM
the game (Gyromite) in fact will work alone as a game on the VC (aka Operation wolf) you would use the 2nd controller for the column movement. its only a question of if the ROB will still work on a new LCD tv? Ill give it a try sometime soon!
on the subject of gyromite my brother and I took places just pushing the buttons on the gamepad cuz ROB was so sloooooooowwwwwwwwww!!!!! we mostly played around with the spinning tops and stuff instead of using it for video games (no wonder no other game was ever made for ROB? I know of no other ROB game?? anybody know??)

oh yeah that name sounds familiar... never had it back in the day tho...
BTW I got my old saturn back YAHOOO!!! my friend said it was one of the first saturns released due to the serial number on the back... I bought it at launch back in 1996 (i think? Im getting older and the years start to blend together) with 15 games (most of them was my old games!)
(I'm gonna edit my previous post to add the saturn)
I also wanted to ask a question about the saturn's slot behind the cd flap... DID THEY EVER FIND A USE FOR THIS THING??? I remember back in the day i was wishing itd play genesis games in that slot (doesnt work) so I was wondering if anything has been added for this option? or it was actually never used??
Angelic Lapras King
24th March 2008, 07:54 PM
It was just used for back up memory carts I think, and an import cart thingy to let you play import games =D
Flamin Skull
25th March 2008, 01:21 AM
Theres a battery in the back in one of the slots ( a circular one, looks like a huge thin hearing aid battery) My friend said that is the internal memory of it? (cant remember if there was any sort of internal saves, will check it sometime tonight (gotta pull the box out of my closet)
BTW recommend any saturn RPGs? I have mostly car, sports and shooters(virtua cop!!) and fighter games
Angelic Lapras King
25th March 2008, 02:51 AM
Yup. That allows you to save games and power the build in clock. But as you can imagine, the game data can fill up (Nights eats up a lot of space) so thats why the Memory carts are there, for more/back up memory. The battery can die too, which makes the back all the more ideal.

BTW recommend any saturn RPGs?Panzer dragoon saga
Magic Knight Rayearth
Albert Odyssey
Legend of Oasis
Madou Monogatari
Princess Crown
There's more but they'll be pretty much impossible to play unless you know Japanese.
Back on topic, my retro systems:
NES (region modded)
Master System 1 (50/60hz switched)
PAL Super Nes (50/60hz & Territory switched + widened cart slot)
PS1
Pal Saturn (50/60hz & Territory Switched)
Jap Saturn (Modded.... but doesn't work)
Dreamcast
PS2
Gamecube
GBA SP
Neo Geo 4-slot MVS Cabinet
Neogeo Pocket Color
I think that's it o_O
I also wanted to ask a question about the saturn's slot behind the cd flap... DID THEY EVER FIND A USE FOR THIS THING???Apart from the external memory cartridges and cheat carts it was also used for RAM expansions. Some jap only titles (like snk and capcom arcade ports) Don't work without the ram upgrade because of the size of the sprites flying around on screen and also the detailed animation. This is why saturn ports of arcade games like xmen vs streetfighter etc are almost arcade perfect (even better than Dreamcast ports) unlike their poor ps1 versions.

I have a fair bit of retro systems:
Atari 2600 (though it is a Sears branded one)
NES
SNES
Genesis (Master System for those not in the US)
N64
Gamecube
Wii
Game Boy
Game Boy Color
GBA
Nintendo DS
DS lite
PS2
Turbo-Grafix 16
Virtual Boy
Remake NES/Famicom
I really don't play most of the older systems that much, I still will go out and buy a few games for them and stuff but I don't play them much anymore, usually I buy them if it is cheaper then $5 for NES, $8 SNES, ETC. unless it is a rare/import game.

None of the old light guns (NES Zapper, Superscope ect.) will work on LCD TV's. It's because all of the pixels are refreshed at the same time on newer TVs I think.

I always like to have hard copies of games whenever I can fidn them and affordable. I own pretty much every major Nintendo system there was released except the SNES and the Virtual Boy.
NES - 35 games (11 of those being Zapper games) - Grey and Orange Zappers - NES Advantage - NES Turbo
Game Boy/GBColor - 19 (Some Lost/Stolen)
Game Boy Advance - 25
N64 - 9
I also own many of the other systems like PSX, Dreamcast, XBOX, PS2, GC, etc. But we're getting out of 'retro' territory with the N64 already.

It ll have to be ebay for me.
Decided to get some games anyway, after seeing Buy One Get One Free stickers on them today. To my horror, the shop guy told me that most the games were snatched by the public (they left the discs in the gamecases. Stupid). So, I could only get 4 games.
Sidney 2000 (Twice by accident XD Ah well, ebay one for a profit...)
WWF Attitude (Hey, I m a wrestling fan...)

Got me a SNES Nintendo Scope today. Only £4, so bargain in my book. Downside is no game or battery cover. Anyone know where I could get a spare Battery cover?
Also got Odama and 1080 Avalanche today (Retro or not, not bad for £20 together) and Oni on the PS2

Oni on the PS2I bought Oni today as well, coincidently, along with Xenosaga Episode II, they were 2 for £5. I knew nothing about Xenosaga but I bought it because it has 3 discs so it looked good good value for £2.50! I intended to go and search for Xenosaga 1 to play first but I just found out that it wasn't released in Europe and part 2 has a story that follows on. So I guess it's going to go on the shelf until I find a way of playing import PS2 games, which I'm really annoyed about.

Damn... there's a great retro collector stash on the local classifieds here...
Genesis model 2 complete w/ 14 games
Neo Geo CD complete w/ 2 games
Wonderswan Color w/ 1 game
Panasonic 3DO complete w/ Super Street Fighter II Turbo
PC Engine Duo (1991) import
Atari Jaguar & Jaguar CD
and a bunch of N64 games
He's asking quite a bit, though, and I am currently in an economic relationship that makes lavish game purchases difficult...

I'm slowly but surely rebuilding the collection I had to sell for $$$ back in high school / undergrad. The SNES and NES parts of the collection are still pretty weak, but I'm starting with more recent systems and working back.
I just reacquired Final Fantasy Origins, Final Fantasy Anthology, Final Fantasy Chronicles, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X, and Chrono Cross for teh cheapz.
On the NES front, I recently snagged SMB1, SMB2, 1943, Donkey Kong Classics, Zelda, and Zelda II.
Slowly getting back in shape, but it'll take time. :)

Besides an occasional PS2 game here and there I actually mostly buy retro games only, especially for the N64...as you might have guessed from the N64 collector's thread...
The last retro game I bought, though was Strider on the PSX.

OK retro trade masters. In the ongoing effort to reacquire my old collection, I'm looking for some NES/SNES/Genesis gear. Turns out my systems aren't working properly, so I'm looking into systems as well.
What I need to know is whether you think this is a sweet enough find to qualify as a sweet find (and thus whether I should buy it):
SNES
NES
Genesis
(all systems tested working and complete with 2 controllers, RF switch, AC adapter)
Dragon Warrior
Duck Tales
Mega Man 2
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario Kart
NHL '94
Total $130. I could probably talk him down to $120.
Opinions and debate by tomorrow afternoon would be most helpful.

I already thought that the system were included, but still I wouldn't pay that much for the set, no matter what ebay might tell me.

I've seen clean working NES systems going for between $40 and $60 here. I offered him $70 for just the NES system and all the games listed above, assuming everything is in good working condition.

It's tough to find a good working SNES or NES on the cheap used local market. Both of my SNES systems are borked and my NES is missing controllers at the very least. I wonder if I shouldn't just get a Retro Duo as a "working" system while looking for good replacements for my real guys.
Thoughts?

I've never actually found a non-working SNES.
I don't know how good the Retro Duo exactly is but it might be a good substitute, especially as it can play games from different regions, although apparently compatibility isn't 100% for any region. It looks good though. As the original NES/SNES hardware aren't exactly rare collectors' items the real value will come from your collection of games anyway, not hardware.

It's the same price as a NES or SNES would be on its own, so it's a good deal financially. I think it's compatible with real SNES controllers, too.
I'll have to find a compatibility list... I read one for the FC Twin and it was unacceptable, but as far as I know the Retro Duo is better.
