View Full Version : Resetting Super Mario Bros.

I did a search on the forums, and tried suggestions for resetting the 'save state.' I've found people mentioning the same predicament I'm in, but can't seem to fix it myself.

My friend beat SMB through on my Virtual Console, enabling 'hard mode' and replacing all the Koopas with beetles. Fun stuff. I can't beat SMB as it is!

I've tried Home Button => Resetting it, using the Wii's Reset Button, and using the Wii's Power Button, but I can't seem to 'unflag' hard mode.

Is there a way to fix it without having to delete the file then re-download it? The VCU Wireless connection has a student log-in page before you can get access, so I can't connect my Wii to the internet at school, making it a bit of a chore to get online.

Well Dont delete the channel just delete the saved data of it. So go in options but dont go to channels go to save data in wii then erase it, it might work if not someone say if im wrong because im just suggesting.

I...should have thought of that on my own, probably.

That being said, THANK YOU.

It's been that way since the day I downloaded it. I didn't even get to play it before my friend beat it, and I haven't gotten to play it on VC yet. I still have my NES, but still...it's the prinicpal.

Thank you very much!

You may have deleted all your save data though, unless the menu lets you choose from which games to wipe the data.

Yeah you can chose witch one you want to delete. Not the thing where it says to erase all saved data.

WOW...I didnt even know there was a hard mode on super mario bros. I'm going to have to beat this game now to see how that.

I could be wrong but I thought the only difference in hard mode was that all the Goombas were replaced by the black shelled things.

What happens when you beat "hard mode?" I remember getting to 8-4 but kept losing (used the continue secret, tried a few times and gave up).

It just restarts again. Nothing special happens.

Yeah, it just starts over but I also think it enables you to select what stage you want to start at from the title menu. Just push A & you'll see the stages scroll at the top of the screen. Hit start on the stage you want to play..

Though, that may be an option that's unlocked after beating it the first time.. I'm not sure.

You can also clear your restore point data at any time by powering down your Wii console while in the middle of the game. It will retain your saved data but will launch the game as if being launched for the first time.

Differences between "easy" and "hard" mode:

Goombas become beetles, and both goombas (beetles) and koopas more faster than before. This increased speed makes the 3-1 Koopa 1-Up glitch impossible. Platforms are skinnier and move faster. Pretty much all enemy sprites are sped up, I think.

I believe that all Bowsers throw hammers, but I may be wrong on that point.

For worlds that were repeated (example world 5-3 is the same as 1-3 but with bullets, 7-2 is the same as 2-2 but with more bloopers, 6-4 is the same as 1-4 but with more fire bars, etc...) the harder version is used for both levels.

Also, pressing B (not A) on the home screen changes the start level.

Playing through world 8 and saving the princess again will not change anything.

Unfortunately that's the only way to take care of that.

Yeah, I ended up doing that (off by holding the power button on the Wiimote) when I got bored after I beat it twice on hard mode (three times total).

It's really not much funner, esp since the goombas are gone and the koopa-shell 1-UP abuse is impossible due to the timing. I know it's cheating, but I can't seem to play all 8 worlds from start to finish without resisting the urge to slam on that poor koopa in 3-1.

I even found a way to do it (1UP trick) on 1-1 of Lost Levels, btw!

I know of two places that you can do the trick in 1-1, I still can't beat the game though. lol

You know, I didn't beat SMB until I was like 16, and even then I beat it on Super Mario All-Stars? I dunno if I ever did get around to beating it in normal 8-bit glory...

Actually not all of the Bowsers throw hammers, but the jumping fireballs appear near him.

I don't see the problem here. The gameplay doesn't really seem to have any difference, the game doesn't seem any harder on hard mode. Then again I've beaten Lost Levels, so I guess my mad skills couldn't tell.

I've beaten it multiple times on hard mode. the only enemies really changed are the goombas. I'm pretty sure if you beat the game the first time around, it shouldn't be to hard the second time.
