I want to play Baten Kaitos, I already own it but don't have the time to play it yet, it's meant to be very long. Also there's the prequal Baten Kaitos Origins. And I'd like to try Tales of Symphonia, that's an RPG but I don't know anything about it.

The best RPG's for Gamecube
1. Paper Mario
2. Skies of Arcadia Legends
3. Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II
4. Tales of Symphonia
5. Summoner 2: A Goddess Reborn
I think Baten Kaitos and Evolution Worlds could be a lot better. They were boring. Before wasting money on Baten Kaitos, I highly recommend Skies of Arcadia Legends!!

Seconded on the Skies of Arcadia front, it's great. Tales of Symphonia will last you ages, and Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door is great fun. Those are the only 'Cube RPGs I have. Sadly, the GC didn't have a lot of RPGs.

had a choice of Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia...
I ended up getting Baten Kaitos and will try it out sometime soon when I have some time...
will grab the Tales of Symphonia sometime this week as well..

Tales of Symphonia felt short in my opinion, and voice acting and animations wasn't really good. Same animation for both talking and shouting ain't so good :/
And the last boss is a piece of cake.

I highly recommend you buy Tales of Symphonia. I originally rented it, and I could NOT PUT IT DOWN. So then when I had to return it I was devistated so I went on a long and mosty dissapointing search until I finally found a copy. It's loooong, the cel-shading is pretty nice, and the music can be pretty entertaining. The battle engine is pretty weird, you can't really move around freely, its only back and forth onless you stop completely, but that doesn't really take away from it. I hit the enemies 99% of the time whichever direction I went in. What I like about it though is how customizable characters can be, special moves, weapons armor etc., outfits, your party lineup in general. It still works out to be a nice game that can take up a lot of your time. It's pretty easy if you have the patience to train a little, with the exception of sidequests which can get decently hard. Definitely worth getting though.
I myself was a little dissapointed with baten kaitos. Battles feel like too much a burden at times to even deal with, and its wayyyy to easy to end up healing your enemy. Also leveling up is annoying because you cannot do it while you are in a dungeon... but otherwise the storyline is pretty deep though so I enjoy that, as well as the evolution of magnus. But hey, for ten dollars i think it was worth it. Yay for cheap gamecube games.

I didn't realise this was released on the gamecube. I had both games on the Ps2 and they are easily my favourite console RPGs. I love the fact that in Summoner 2 you turn into the creatures rather than summoning them to do your bidding. Excellent story to this game too I'd imagine this can be picked up second hand extremly cheaply so if you see don't hesitate to buy it.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is worth a play. It's a fantastic tactical-RPG with a great storyline, some cool characters, and what I think is a wonderful gameplay system (tons of party formation options, lots of different characters/units to choose from, difficulty settings, etc.).
I never had a GameCube but I'm starting to look for good GC games now that I have my Wii. I'll have to look around for some of the other titles mentioned here.

I will be totally honest. I somehow found my way to this site and read about the gamecube RPGs. I read four pages worth and didn't see Lost Kingdoms or Lost Kingdoms II.
I signed up for an account on here just to voice this game. It's an Action, card based RPG. their both really good and you should read some reviews on them. If you decide to pick them up play LK before LK2 so you can transfer your card collection over.
Oh and btw, i made a youtube video from the two games if you wanna check it out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jnkVNyh7nVA

So would you believe me if I told you there was a video game about fighting an evil army of reclining chairs with the help of rabid dogs, cats, bunnies and squirrels, and you can level up when you eat bars of soap and in the end of the game you have to ride a rubber ducky to Gahharat Island to fight the evil 2-Person-Deluxe-Recliner-with-Cup-Holders-and-Robotic-Arms-That-Obey-Commands and end the production of reclining chairs? Well it ISN'T an import, it's a really cute 3rd-Party N64 RPG (I don't know why I mentioned it in this thread) and it's one of the few non-nintendo games I ever liked. Played it a lot when I was about 3...4 maybe. I hope it gets to the VC... OH!!! YEAH, THE NAME!!! I forgot to tell you the name. It was Toybot Buz 2: Attack of the Gnawing Recliners. I especially liked the part when you had to fight this little guy who was so small he was probably only a pixel big and HE WAS SO HARD! His name was Minivon, but at first I thought it was Minivan because I'm so near sighted.

1. Paper Mario TTYD
Borrowed, completed, liked. Its exactly what you expect, but a good game none the less. Not a huge jump over the 64 one, but good.
$20-ish
2. Skies of Arcadia Legends
Bought as soon as I could after its release. Beat it twice so far. Its a little slow in combat but great music and story. Thsi version adds about 5 hours of material over the Dreamcast version. Very long (50 hours)
HARD TO FIND!!
3. Tales of Symphonia
Thakfully easy to find, espeically with its sequel coming out soon. Its fairly lengthy and the combat isn't a chore like some rpgs. Plus, a substancial amount of (good) voice acting!
$20-ish
4. Summoner 2: A Goddess Reborn
Bought this at a Gamestop because it got good reviews. The combat is pretty basic but its good enough to keep you playing. Though...I got stuck about 3/4 through it.
I got it for $10 a couple years ago.
5. Baiten Kaitos
Here's a game I need to start over and go through again. You will love or hate the combat system which mixes luck-based card dealings with number and element based startegy but the graphics are AMAZING. Some of the best on the system. The music and voice acting is only okay though. I have heard the sequel is bad.
I got it for $15-20 a couple years ago.
6. Pokemon Colloseum
What the hell? you may say. Actually, the single player in this game is pretty good. It doesnt compare to most of the other game son th elist, but its better than any other 3D Pokemon effort by far!
7. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Unforcunately, this will be one of the more expensive games, sine I don't think it ever became a player's choice title. Its a great strategy game though some of the last few levels are frustrating. Somehow, its the only Fire Emblem I've beat of all 4 that i've played.
8. Evolution Worlds
This is the only one onm the list that i haven't played, but if i get achance to I will. It got avergae-ish reviews but I want to check it out. Let me know what you guys thought of this and my whole list!

I managed to find a brand new, factory sealed copy sitting on the shelf at WalMart for $50, so lucky me. I've actually seen them used for that price (or more!). Yeah, it's a shame that it's rare now because it's great and more people need to play it.

Damn it, somebody already beat me to Lost Kingdom 1 and 2. I gotta remember to get that one.
Since there aren't a lot of RPGs on the Gamecube, I'll bolster some of the other recommendations:
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Tales of Symphonia
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Summoners 2
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Once I get some sleep, I'll add the reasons why these are good, but right now, my head feels like it's going to explode( if I don't comeback, you know what happened). Night.

Tales of Symphonia
If you like real-time battle systems, then here you go--it's kind of like a meeting point between a standard fighting game and an action RPG. Its soundtrack is fairly decent, though only a few themes are really memorable. The overall story arc isn't much to write home about, but the characters and their interactions with each other (and there are hundreds of those) should be very entertaining if you're not looking for anything serious. ToS' voice acting is decent enough, I guess, but there's something a little off about its sound quality that really hurts it for me... No deal breaker, though. Expect to be playing for 60 to 80 hours on a first run.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
The strategy RPG genre at some of its very best, with great strategic gameplay and music. Battle animations are rather awkward and kind of horrible, but you'll probably be turning those off within a couple hours anyway since they just slow down the strategy. Watch out if you're not looking for a real challenge, though.
Baten Kaitos Origins
A card-based battle system involving three characters working in tandem and stringing together attack combos by selecting card numbers in the correct numbered order. Difficult to explain, honestly, but supremely entertaining and unique all in one. BKO's soundtrack is also superb, and way above the level of the other two games listed above. Voice acting is also stunning, some of the best that the RPG genre has seen, and two of the three main characters are written exceptionally. The only downside to BKO (and thus the reason it's below the other two) is that it's about 60 hours long, it's pretty much as linear as linear gets, and you only have your set of three characters; there's really no reason to replay because not much (if anything) will be different from the first time.
...Well, there is one other downside...
Baten Kaitos
Take BKO. Murder the running speed, to make traveling rather tedious. Make all the optional quests uber pains that literally require a FAQ because you just don't have enough item slots to keep all of the correct items for when you would need them. Replace awesome voice acting with some of the most painful stuff you'll ever hear coming from a video game. For all these reasons, I think it would be practically impossible to play BK and enjoy it after playing BKO first.
So why is it on this list? I'd argue that BK's battle system is actually even better than BKO's (which is already fantastic). Rather than stringing together attack combos where each card has a number from 1-7 and you always go straight up (1, 2, 3, etc.), BK uses numbers from 1-9, gives each attacking card two to four numbers to choose from with the C-stick, and lets you arrange number combos to boost damage as if it were kind of like poker. For example, if you have one attack with the numbers 3 and 5 on it, and another one with 2, 5, and 8, then you could select the number 5 for each of them and get a damage boost. Or you could make a 7-7-4-4 setup, or 4-3-2-1, or 2-2-2, or basically whatever you can work with, whereas BKO restricts you to always going straight up in a 1-2-3-4 setup.
Anyway, obviously this is all pretty difficult to explain, but it's worth it. If you ever intend to play this, though, then you'd better play it before BKO or you'll probably have trouble going back--that's one of the only "downsides" to BKO.

Sry dude, but i can't let pass you saying that radiant dawn beats fire emblem path of radiance!
That game gave u a bunch of characters already in god-level, and after a whole game of training the weaker ones to transform them in the best, they give you the choice to use the god-like ones in the final battle. (and if you dont use them, and choose the one you trained, its quite likely that you will loose xD). Also the ending was kind of boring in my opinion, not as dinamic as the gcn one xD.
About the rpgs, yes, tales is really good, and so is skies of arkadia. (I prefer skies, but that's for you to see).

Definitely get Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. It's not only the best RPG on the system, it's one of the best gamecube games period.
I've also heard good things about Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, and Fire Emblem, but those are the only good RPGs I can think of. That system wasn't really big on that genre.

As has been mentioned a few times, there weren't many RPG's on Gamecube, and roughly half weren't very good. Here's a quick rundown of the good ones:
Skies Of Arcadia Legends - port of the Dreamcast game, with extra sidequests and less random battles, highly recommended
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - strategy-RPG, quite tough, especially if you're not used to this style of RPG, if you have a completed savefile for this game on your memory card when you play the Wii sequel it unlocks some stuff too
Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2/Plus - sci-fi hack-and-slash RPG's, kinda like a 3D Diablo. If you have a Gamecube, a Broadband Adapter and a means of connecting to a private server you can still go online, but if you're playing on Wii it's offline only, which is nowhere near as fun. There's a split-screen co-op mode, if that's your thing. The Plus version makes online cheating harder and adds a bunch of extra stuff but is much harder to find. You can download the PC version for free and play online, so really, just do that.
Phantasy Star Online Episode 3: C.A.R.D Revolution - This game uses the same graphics as the other PSO games but is actually a combined card game/strategy-RPG. Again, you can take this online with a Gamecube and Broadband Adaptor and a connection to a private server, although you'd be lucky to find anyone online. This game actually has a worthwhile offline mode though, so that doesn't really matter, This is a Gamecube exclusive and can be had for quite cheap, so pick it up if you think it'll be your thing.
Tales Of Symphonia - another Gamecube exclusive, it's an RPG with real-time battles that allows three other people to control members of your party. The Wii sequel just got released and is probably easier/cheaper to find, so get that one and if you like it, pick up the original too.
Baiten Kaos/Origins: once again, these two games are Gamecube-exclusive, and are a cross between an action-RPG and a card-battling game. Levelling up and earning money are kinda weird, but the games are both fun. Origins is a prequel but is the second game in the series, if you follow my drift.
Aaaaaaand, that's about it. The others quite frankly suck.

No worries! From what I recall, the PS2 version gained an extra costume for each character and a bunch of anime cutscenes, but the framerate took a dive and the loading times were ridiculous, which seems par for the course for GC>PS2 ports.

That game gave u a bunch of characters already in god-level, and after a whole game of training the weaker ones to transform them in the best, they give you the choice to use the god-like ones in the final battle. (and if you dont use them, and choose the one you trained, its quite likely that you will loose xD)
Thats a silly reason to not like a game, and its still easy to beat the game without the Laguz kings. The only thing I didn't like was that like 6 units were forced into endgame and 3 of which as far as I can remember were almost worthless.

Yeah, I don't like the forced endgame character selection, but I guess it's a way of counterbalancing the great characters that you can take other than them. ;)
So, is Baten Kaitos Origins any good? I saw a new copy at the local place and it wasn't the game I thought it was. I kept hearing the name and thinking it was a shooter for some reason, but if it's actually a decent RPG I might be willing to spring for it.

It's a rather unique game, I tried playing it without a walkthrough and it took me a while to figure out how to do combos and chains with cards so I suggest to invest some time in getting to know the battle system, after you get it down (go like 1/3 way thru the game) start the game again (I'm gonna do that someday...)

One of my biggest complaints was that other unimpressive but units I liked couldn't go like Astrid, and Heather ( Heather who should pretty much never go to endgame because your already stuck with a Sothe, and Whispers arn't much good for combat)
