I was thinking about downloading Punch Out. Is it worth getting? Is it like that old Game and Watch game 'Boxing' (it was re-released for GBA on Game & Watch Gallery 4)? I know it's supposedly one of the best games ever, but I'm worried that because I'm so used to Wii Sports Boxing I'll get bored with the other button-mashing boxing games. Any advice?
Oh, and incidentally, you can discuss the game in this topic, too. Don't feel that you're limited to talking about my petty problems.

Punch-out is a great game, its really really hard though. Right now i'm stuck at mr. sandman and I have never beaten super macho man. Hopefully for fans of the series nintendo will one day release super punch out on the vc which I feel is a better game but yeah download punch-out if you want my advice.

Punch Out is very different from Wii Sports boxing. It requires a lot more skill and timing. You really can't get far by button bashing. Each opponent has their own tactics needed to defeat them. It's very addictive. A lot of NES games seem really dated now but Punch Out sort of feels timeless, check out it, you won't regret it! 8)

I can't quite get MachoMan at the moment, when he does those rapid uppercuts, my timing always goes off!
But get it, it is a fantastic game, really fun and satisfying, and easily one of the best NES games :)

The game itself is pretty easy to me, except Mr. Dream - Still can't beat him. It's a bit cheap that 80% of his attacks are instant knockdowns!

That's cos Mr Dream is real Iron Mike Tyson! The sprites may be no longer brown but the power of the fighter lives on!

At least Mr. Dream doesn't eat my children and bite ears off.

Hippo ain't so hard if you get your timing right.
Dodge his jabs by weaving left and right. Wait until he does a little jump with his mouth open, then punch up to hit him in the jaw. His shorts should fall off. You can now hit him in his guts before he pulls his shorts back up!
The timing is essential. His punches will KO you easily if you let him land any on you! Good luck! :small-boo:

Get it! Get it! Get it! I've had this originally with Mike Tyson. It's a great game. It's challenging too, I still can't get past the second Bald Bull but I keeping going for a rematch. Good memories. Even my dad knows this game.

Mr. Sandman and Tyson/Dream still give me grief, but Macho Man is a chump. He's really not that bad once you get the timing down on his super duper punch where he swings between 3 and 11 times in a row. I have a much harder time with Sandman's super, I can usually dodge 2 punches but often get snagged by the second or third. The damage he does isn't the bad part, it's the missed opportunity to put the hurt on him, as that is the best time to wear him down. Any other point in the match you just barely chip away at his health; he doesn't go down easy.
Also, get it if you haven't already. Or get Animal Crossing :)

Managed to beat Macho first round TKO only to get my ass handed to me in the next fight hehe.

I never had much truble with Mr. Sandman, only Macho. Dunno status on Dream yet...

I once beat mike tyson by decision but I was home alone and it was during my college days, when they got home my roomates didn't believe me. I know i did it though, I used the code to go right to tyson though so I didn't officially beat the game but it was still satisfying.

I always lose around the same area......either Bald Bull, the 2nd Piston Honda, or Soda. If I beat Bald Bull I will usually beat Piston also and then lose to Soda but Bald Bull is tricky for me. I should concentrate on this game for a while and see if I can beat it but I always play it in between other games.

Soda can be very frustrating, I think I should take dk xcalibur's idea and focus on the game more, I don't play it that often.

Soda doesn't even have any real tricks to him. It's just wait for him to punch, dodge it, and counter attack. There are no chances to get an instant knockout like most in the game. His only strength is his quickness, just keep playing him and you'll get the feel down pretty shortly. I was intimidated by him at first but now hes a pushover. I'm on the second Don Flamenco any pointers? Is it pretty much just like the first one with the "hit him so he attacks then dodge and counter attack" deal? Only got one shot at him last night so I didn't really pick up anything about the fight.

Punch Out's a classic. Love the game. Can't quite get past the second encounter of Bald Bull. Oh that trickster and his Bull Charge. Ever since then I've kinda stopped playing it much. Ain't I a stinker?

Spoiler mode: Dodge and hit. When he taunts hit and dodge.

The second bald bull is difficult but not impossible. The trick is to get the timing down to hit him in the stomach when he does the bull charge because it's an instant knockdown. I have it mastered in super punch out but it still gives me fits on punch-out. I am out of practice though.

ahh thanks I was just about to ask because everytime I punch bald bull it doesn't knock him down even if he has no health, if I hit him while he charges is that a knockout or a knockdown?

Spoiler mode You can use the Star to knock him down. For the charge i like to dodge the first then knock on second;)

knockdown unless you knock him down for the 3rd time during 1 round. The second bald bull always gets up.

If you knock anyone down 3 times in one round it's a "TKO".
I started playing again and I can now get past Bald Bull all the time. Now I'm stuck on Soda Pop.
