I love it when my Wii glows blue. I was disappointed when I first got the console and found it only glows when there's a new message! :(

So what do you think? Should it glow constantly and pulsate when there's a message, or is it fine as it is - off most of the time?

I find it more distracting than anything else, so I turned it completely off. I'm sure it came on not only when receiving a message.

It glows for a short time when it loads a game too. And yes, I think it looks sexy ;) But, I noticed that the Wii gets pretty hot when it's on for a while. I once got a message in the middle of the night, and only saw it that afternoon, and my Wii got hotter than ever. So I think it would be a bad thing if it was on all the time like that.

I like it as it is, where it glows only if there is a message. That way it's kind of exciting when it glows since it doesn't happen all the time, you rush to turn it on to see what's there.

Yeah I like that I woke up just this morning and saw it flashing, I was happy. But I don't want to turn it off I like it but I think it was flashing since i went to sleep.

Yeah, even on "Dim" it lights up my entire room, blue lights are pretty though so I have nothing against it.

If you can't get enough of it, just mail your Wii yourself ;)

The first night I had with my new little friend I woke up in the middle of the night and saw it flashing. Being new to the Wii scene altogether, I thought it was defective or something. Had me freaked out until I made a little trip to google. Although I noticed it was unusually hot as well and thought the lights were the culprit so they have been off since that first night I had my Wii only to find out a month or two ago it was because of Wiiconnect. Now both are switched to off. Blue lights and Wii mail aren't worth the possible damage that may come from the Wii being hot when I'm not even using it.

I have the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector So at night time I just take it out of my computer so I have no internet access at night. ecept that one night I did and I woke up with my blue light on, but my wii was only a little warm as if i was playing for a while.

Isn't the blue light produced by LEDs rather than incandescent bulbs? I'm pretty sure it would be, and LEDs produce only a teeny tiny amount of heat, so switching the blue light off would have only a negligible effect, if at all...

I'm open to being corrected if anyone knows for certain, but I'd be very surprised if it isn't LED based...

Yeah I'm pretty sure I herd that somewhere too.

Well one of the latest updates has made the light act differently. For example, lighting up when removing putting in a disc, and a few other instances.

You're right, I think. But I think he was referring to the possible damage caused by leaving it on WiiConnect24 rather than the heat from the light, that's much more of an issue.

In which case, fair point. ;)

I'm constantly surprised by the heat the Wii generates. I seem to recall some Japanese fellow bragging about the low power consumption. I must say, I'm unconvinced...

The light drives me nuts at night. It always wakes me up. And seriously, why does most of the Wii updates happen at 4:00 in the morning?

How does it wake you up it doesn't make any noise.

I'm guessing this is a rhetorical question, but in case not, I suspect that they happen at 4am because very few players (except maybe us lot ;) ) are using their Wiis at that point, so the update is more likely to get through quickly.

How does it wake you up it doesn't make any noise.

Has light never woken you up? We're naturally geared up for sleeping at night and being awake during the day so light can wake you up if you can sense it through your eyelids. Plus, if you half wake up in the night, you might ordinarily be able to get back to sleep immediately and not even remember it. If, however, you open your eyes a little, the light might distract you enough to bring you properly out of normal sleep.

At 4:00 AM they always update the Everybody Votes Channel and what not.

And the light, imagine it being 4 in the morning, you are asleep, and suddenly your room is covered in a bright blue that's so blinding you wake up and have to stumble over to the Wii and cover it or something. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I'm not a morning person. Mail should wait till later.

Have you tried to set it to "Dim" in the Wii menu? It could work.
Myself, I have a couch between the bed and the Wii so my bedroom gets blue but I won't wake up.

Heheh, I'm the same. But only after a good few vodka & oranges and half a crate of Biere d'Alsace. As I discovered at uni when someone in halls set off the fire alarm and I was only woken up by a Fireman at my door asking me why I hadn't heard the (very loud) alarm and left the building... Slightly worrying...

Hey kids, drinking is bad, mmmkay?

LOL!

When the light flashes in my room, it's like a morning early laser light show.
