View Full Version : Multiple Wii Power Lights

I'm having an issue with my Nintendo Wii.

I understand the following:

Red light - Wii is off
Green light - Wii is running
Yellowish/Orangish light - No idea

This morning I connected the Wii to the net. When I turned it off and left the yellowish light was there instead of the red light. I come back about 10 hours later and the drive is occasionally flashing blue. Is the Wii actually off?

Why is it now every time I turn it off the yellow light comes on instead of the red? Am I not turning the Wii off properly?

The yellow light means that the Wii is on standby mode, and that Wii Connect 24 is running. Since you hooked it up to the net, anytime you turn your Wii off the yellow light should display but no worries there, the console isn't on or anything.

The blue flashing light means you have a message in your inbox (which is probably the one from Nintendo regarding the remote jackets) and will keep flashing until you read the message.

I think I've got all of that right... :)

Can I stop WiiConnect24 from running so it's not in standby mode anymore?

I think you can do that in the Wii Options and by going into settings and Wii Connect 24. I'm not sure on that so don't quote me!

It can produce significant amount of heat when the console is turned off; that's why it may be a good idea to turn it off.

Another option for you would be to keep WC24 on in the settings and shutting down your Wii by holding down the Wii's power button for a few seconds until it switches to the red light. That's what I do.

Appreciate all the help guys. Like it was mentioned, instead of just pressing the power button, holding it for about 4-5 seconds does completely turn it off and doesn't go into standby mode.

I prefer it this way because there are times where I can go weeks, even months without playing my Xbox 360, and this will probably be the case for the Wii too. I've got a busy schedule, so I don't always have the free time. These last few days, however, I have been playing quite a bit.

Yeah, its been pretty fun so far. Wii Sports in just insane good times.

Reading manuals or even browse the various settings of the option configs is really that difficult?

Why? Now I want saomeone to tell this to me.
This is a Nintendo console, something that a kid should operate!
HELL!!!!!!

Now, keeping the button pressed some seconds is stupid, it is absolutely pointless. Because there's obviously a dedicated option for this.

And how is this option labeled?
Would it be something like "CONNECTION DURING STAND-BY"?
Or a 3 words sentence is too difficult to be understood in an option setting?

If you lack even more brain, here's the zero-intelligence solution:
Go in the options of your wii
WiiConnect24 - ON
Connection during stanby - OFF

Sounds like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

I actually did flip through both manuals that came with the Wii, I didn't find any information on it anywhere.

My sincere apologies if my intelligence level isn't up to your high standards.

I woke up and that's enough.

Homo Sapiens to me should mean a creature that thinks.

We must find a way to prevent Nehandertals to even turn on a Wii.

[EDIT]
And "neuzd, you're a jerk and you're always angry, but hey, your answer was the first and only clear and correct, so thanks anyway."

why turn it off i just keep it on. and good for you you got a wii!

That is unless he is like me and doesnt like how hot the wii gets when in standby mode.

I just leave mine off. I dont see the point in leaving it on and worrying that it will blow up the GFX chip when im playing graphic intense games.

Ive heard alot of junk about that. Thats more than enough reason for me to keep it off untill nintendo starts sending out free intercoolers =P

I believe the heat issue was resolved a few updates ago, as the fan now operates at a low speed when the console is in standby mode.

Of course, this does mean it takes a bit more power to maintain the standby connection, but I'd rather have that than a fried Wii. :p

Why do it like that? Just turn WiiConnect24 off in settings, then you don't have to hold the power button.

Hold the power button when you turn it off and it will go red, it's good to o this because the console can get very hot when wii connect is on...

Again, why do it like that when you can just change it in settings?

Because, if you didn't notice, this is the "I can't read thread" and users are not even reading others' post.
