I’m desperately trying to finish Metroid Prime 2 in time for Metroid Prime 3 and I was wondering if someone could tell me about how long it took to beat the game. I know this is different for everyone but I’m only looking for a ballpark number.

A way could be counting the bosses, mini-bosses or tasks you know you have to accomplish.
Check a walkthrough on GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com), you can look the summary to get an idea of how much it is long and where you actually are. So you can have a vague idea of how much time you need.
I'm stuck at one of the easiest bosses, it just needs good timing to be passed, but it looks I always end up at the wrong place and got hit.
It's the Spider Ball one, and it has to be done all in morphball....I just have to focus more and DO it.

I actually just beat the Spider Guardian on Saturday and on Monday I beat the next boss, the Power Bomb Guardian. Using your advice (although I used Wikipeadia because I’m blocked on most gaming sites) I would say I’m around 66% complete. I have beat 12 of the 18 bosses. I’m more interested in the amount of time I have left, not the completion % though. It’s not like I just want to finish this game, I actually really enjoy this game, and I just want to have it completed by August 27.
On a side note, I couldn’t help but get excited about MP3 while beating the Spider Guardian. It took me around 4 or 5 tries to beat that boss. A lot of things are working against you there. First I died 2 times just trying to figure out what to do. Then I died a couple more times timing the boost and bomb jumps. It’s my understanding that in MP3, the morph ball is controlled more with the wiimote then by buttons pressing. For instance jumping is done by flicking the wiimote upward instead of timing the bombs. For the morph ball mode alone……I’m excited. The Metroid Prime series is becoming my favorite series in gaming.

Absolutely impossible to define at this point.
Really, the highly non-linear nature of the game is just working against any prediction of time. I think you cannot ask for a thing like that...how much do you want to "stay there", for example?
My first run in every Metroid game is always very slow, because I just love everything around me, and I want to take my time to do things.
For example my first run on Zero Mission was something like 10+ hours. My personal best time is 1h50 and for my 100% run it took me 6+ hours.
So, as you see the same person can have total different times, depending on hopw he wants to play. If you're in a rush to end the game...I can just tell you: "don't do it, take some more time, look for an expansion over there, blast some more zoomers, find a shortcut!".
You know how can I summarize my point of view? Metroid (and Prime of course) is not just a game, it's a TOY.
Do as you wish, I'm playing ALL the Metroid titles I have from time to time.

Jumping in prime 3 will be easier with the wiimote because prime 3 will feature the "spring ball" once again which allows samus to jump in morph ball mode. My brother and i discovered that while watching some trailers and he was like thank god for that. Probably have to jump using bombs at least once before getting the spring ball, that's usually how it works.

Yeah, some of the bomb jump puzzles of past games were a bit tedious - "But I want that extra item!"
I think it took me four or five days to finish MP2. I have no idea how much actual time I've spent on it. I've actually been thinking about playing through MP1 again. It's been four years since I've played it, so it probably would be nice to revisit.
Then again, with sandwiching that in between the VC releases of Metroid and Super Metroid, and my current sessions of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, I'll be hard-pressed to manage to squeeze it in there.

I'm now collecting the nine keys to the Sky Temple. I have 5 or 6, only a few to find.

I've beaten metroid prime several times including once on hard mode but after finally beating echoes I just put it away. It was so annoying at times I don't think it had a quarter of the replay value that prime had. Could'nt tell you how long it took me as I had to share playing time with a friend of mine who I was living with at the time and I know I took my time trying to get items as well.

4 more keys to find. I hope to find them all tonight. I know where the remaining 4 are hidden, it's just a matter of traveling to each location to collect them. My goal is to be in the Sky Temple by the end of the day. This would give me a week to beat the sky temple. It actually looks as though I might beat this in time for Prime 3.

I got to the Emperor Ing for the first time last night and died. From what I heard it has three stages and I didn't even get to the second stage yet.

Ing is very difficulty, it took me a few tries at least. You just have to get used to the pattern.
Hey dk_xcalibur did you get my private message?

I set out to beat half of Prime 1 and all of Prime 2 by the time Corruption rolls around, and that was last sunday. I'm doin worse than you man I only just beat the Boost Guardian in Prime 2 last night. Worse yet my weekend is pretty full so that pretty much just leaves me sunday to finish the game. Think it can be done?
On a side note I have completely fallen in love with this franchise again. I stopped playing Prime 1 about halfway through (back when it was released) for some unknown reason but man am I happy I decided to get back in it. Only took me about 5 years to realize what a beautiful game it is. I just might have to play it again after MP3 because it deserves my full attention all the way through.

Are you going to play all day on Sunday? If so, I think it could be done. When I play I only play for an hour or two at the most.
I did the same thing with Metroid Prime 2. I bought it played it halfway and for some unknown reason stoped playing it. This is after the fact that I beat Metroid Prime and considered it my fav. game ever at the time.

You can beat prime 2 if you don't have many interruptions, I have interruptions all the time at home so it can get frustrating but it can be done. I'm like dk_xcalibur as well though and need to stop playing after 1 or 2 hours and take a break.

Well I just got the underwater gravity booster last night. I'm gonna have sunday night and monday night to finish from there. Assuming Gamestop doesn't have some midnight special on monday night for Prime 3. I've been known to have some long play sessions before. My average game time on any given night is a about 2 to 3 hours. However, I can extend that a couple more hours need be for this game.

I can't remember that item but your getting their, good luck and i doubt any store will have a midnight special for prime 3.

Well it is a pretty anticipated release, but not enough to merit any special treatment. It's a shame too because its destined to be one of if not the best game this year.

I totally agree but I can say around where I live at least it's hard enough for employers to get employees to work the regular hours let alone a midnight special.

I have MP3 waiting for me at home but I'm still stuck on the Emp. Ing Boss. I died 3 times last night and I was frustrated so I quit.
Hopefully I'll beat it tonight. I won't be able to play MP3 until I beat MP2:(

I can't remember how many total their are to find, you may not have enough energy as you say. Which of course would suck.

I played this morning before I left for work. I actually had 10 life bars and it was enough this morning to beat the game. Yes, you read that correctly, I finally beat Metroid Prime 2. I beat the emp. Ing the 1st try this morning and beat Dark Samus right away......now onto Metroid Prime 3!

dont you read the hints?
every one of the sky temple keys has a description to it.
that makes them really easy to find.
yeah its backtracking and a bit puzzle solving for some.
but if you read the hints you would know where each of them is.

Reading????????????????????????????
Isn't this supposed to be a videogame?
Ok, sorry....but I'm the one who always reads manuals and seeks solutions to problems combining knowledge and logic.

In the dark temple (I think that is the name) you can scan a bunch of stuff that gives you hints to the location of each key. All of them use the echo visor to see the caches but after shooting the caches they become visible to the combat visor which you then have to shoot again to unlock the key.

I knew that, but thanks, I'll check out the dark temple =]
