I just got this on ebay for £2.50 :p very happy....
I hear its quite sought after, i've seen it go for very high prices
Anyone else own this, impressions?
Its also called the black sheep of the metroid series, it was developed by a different company from all the other games and a different guy not ( blah insert the name of the guy who worked on NES metroid). It also the only game (Apart from the end of fusion) where we see the generations of metroid.
It introduces many power-ups used in the most recent games, the spider ball was introduced in this game as well as save stations.

I read your message in the chat Sektor.
I also tried looking for it some times ago, but all auctions were impossible to win, probably because it was when Super Metroid got released and I thought everyone was rushing to have all the Metroid games.
I also tried in some shop that sell pre-owned carts, but it's not that easy to find classic GB games.
I might start to look again. It's the only Metroid game I haven't, and gameplay is defineltely more "modern" than Metroid.....I don't think I want to beat Metroid....
Shoemaker, how did you miss the Super Metroid opening?

I have to agree with neuzd there.
I have the Metroid 2 cart though. Found it at GameStop for $6, and just had to pick it up. It's actually pretty fun, the only problem I really have with it is that the Samus sprite is too big for the GB screen. Feels a bit cramped cuz of that.

I used to have Metroid 2 and I sure loved it. Ok, so you can get lost at times as most areas look pretty much the same, but all in all it's an amazing game, especially considering they managed to carry over everything that made Metroid so special to the GB.

I was pretty sure the first three Metroids were all done by Gunpei Yokoi's team, same as the Mario/Wario Land games. I could be wrong.

Are you sure? Just checked and the ending lists Gunpei as the producer.

Ah Metroid 2. I can tell you, it may be considered a black sheep by many, but its just because it falls under the same scenario as games like Final Fantasy VIII, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Mega Man 4. Basically they are overshadowed by another game that everyone considers to be the ultimate end all 'best' of the series that preceded or, in the case of Metroid 2, came directly after it. This one being Super Metroid. And with Metroid 2, most people had either played Metroid but not cared too much about it (until Super Metroid) or didn't play Metroid at all.
But Metroid 2 always is secretly my favorite Metroid. And yeah, it set up many of the classic Metroid staples. As well as the graphical style that led to Super Metroid (and all of the other 2D Metroids). But the game wasn't really made by another team. All the 2D Metroids were made by Nintendo R&D1 and supervised by Gumpei Yokoi until his death (when supervision was replaced by Yoshio Sakamoto). However, various people who work on the Metroid titles (and other R&D1 titles) are known to be pulled from Intelligent Systems and vice versa on some of their projects. As Intelligent Systems crew are made up of former R&D1 people. And the rumor of a different crew doing the game might come from the fact that Yoshio Sakamoto didn't direct the game like all the other main 2D Metroids.
Still, Gumpei Yokoi was the same, the music writer was the same and R&D1 was the design team.
