Ooh, I'd love it if some of the EA Hockey series made it. Those are great games.
Other than that (and knowing that Shining Force, Sonic 2 and Streets of Rage 2 are confirmed), I'd like to see Chakan, Earthworm Jim, Landstalker, Lost Vikings, Road Rash 2, Rolo to the Rescue, Shinobi 3, Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition.
Assuming that Amiga VC is a myth, I'd make do with the MD conversions of Chaos Engine, Flashback, Micro Machines, Robocod, Sensi Soccer*, Skidmarks, and Xenon II.
EDIT: Also, Aladdin and Eternal Champions.

The other good thing about the console versions of Sensi was that they never had real player/team names in the first place (Highbury United instead of Arsenal, for example), so there'll be no Tecmo Bowl shenanigans if/when they're released to VC.

The TG-16 version was woeful compared to the arcade! I am a huge Shinobi fan, I shall list my faults with this conversion:
* No power ups!
* No close up attack!
* Level 2 is missing!
* No Bonus rounds!
Yes it is a big shame a proper Megadrive conversion was never released, it could have been arcade perfect! :evil:
Thankfully revenge of shinobi and shinobi 3 more than made up for this.
For good old one-hit-and-you-die shinobi you could do a lot worse than Shadow Dancer on the Megadrive, it's very different to the arcade version. I much prefer it myself! 8)

Yeah, MS Shinobi was great (as was Alex Kidd in Shinobi World), definitely as good as the arcade version, but quite different. NES Shinobi was an atrocity.
I'd love to see Master System support on VC; it had some fantastic unique games that we won't see otherwise, like Phantasy Star, to name just one.

The Master System Sonics were quite different to the MD ones. Rather than attempting a half-arsed port, Sega built them towards the strengths of the MS, so they're just as good in their own way, but quite different in terms of level design and so on.

I would try and put some screengrabs up, but I don't think that's the best way to compare them, as the MS will just look bad! The MS Sonics are just really well designed, brilliantly playable platformers that aren't as flashy as their MD cousins, but are still great games. And I reckon the music on the MS versions is better, but that's just me. :wink:

I was thinking that myself. Were there any four player genesis games by any chance?
kelvingreen
30th May 2007, 04:41 PM
The MD had a multitap, but I don't know how many games supported it. Micro Machines had two potential four-player modes, as I recall; there was a way to play with two people using one controller, one player using the d-pad to steer, the other using the fire buttons. I think acceleration was automatic. I may be misremembering that.
But what MM (and a bunch of other Codemasters games, like Pete Sampras Tennis and Skidmarks) did have was the J-Cart. It had two extra joypad ports built into the cartridge itself, so all you needed was to get a couple of extra pads.
EDIT: The original MM wasn't a J-Cart, it seems, although I'm sure you could pad-share. MM2 was definitely a J-Cart though, and so you could pad-share too and thus play eight players on a Megadrive! :shock:

Actually there were 2 separate multitaps, which I own.. :D
One of them was for EA games only (those cheap *******s) like General Chaos and the NHL series.
Lost Vikings is a 3-player puzzle/platform game by Blizzard. One of their first games.
Other 4-player games:
Mega Bomberman - port of Bomberman '94 I think..
Yu Yu Hakusho (by Treasure) is an excellent 4-player fighter.
Street Racer - it's like Mario Kart.
Tiny Toons Acme All-Stars
Wimbledon Tennis
Puzzle & Action games - these are kinda like Wario Ware for GBA.
Columns 3 is for 1-5 players, Dodgeball: Kuy Kid is for 1-6 players, and Double Dribble for 1-8!
Haven't tried them out with more than 2 though.

It's not quite a straight port. There are more features and levels in Mega than in '94, but the MD version is clearly based on the TG16 version.

Contra: Hard Corps
Alien Soldier
Even if I had a Wii, I don't think I would get Alien Soldier on the VC as it was only released in Europe and Japan and I happen to live in America. I might have to fork over the 60 dollars and buy the game then find a PAL to NTSC converter just to play. Oh well.

Yeah. No idea if the Virgin games are possible to get onto the VC. Guess if Disney Interactive decide to go VC it could...
SNES Aladdin was made by Capcom, so its more likely we ll see that if Disney let the games available...

I totally agree with KeeperBvK you can't have classic retro games without classic disney games. I need Castle of Illusion along with Quackshot, World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck. I also want Phantasy Star II, III, IV, Valis III, and Captain America & the Avengers which it was an awesome superhero game that doesn't stink like Batman Forever. *shudders* Does anyone still remember the Batman game based on the first movie trilogy from the 80's with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson? Oh yeah i need my TMNT Hyperstone Heist really bad.

EA just published the MD version, I think, so there's a possibility. James Pond: Underwater Agent was good, but James Pond II: Robocod was superb. There was a third game, but it wasn't nearly as good as the second.

Here is my 2nd Generation System wishlist.
Sega Genesis
EA's NHL Hockey- (It was made in 1991 with 22 teams and no names so EA should have no problem with the NHLPA on this one.)
EA's Lakers vs. Celtics- (The best 8 teams from 1989-90, Jordan, Magic, Bird, Motor City Bad Boys, CBS' last season broadcasting the NBA, take out the names and this game is still good!)
EA's John Madden Football- (This is where there were no names just teams resembling their NFL counterparts)
EA's FIFA International Soccer- (Again no names, just countries, can't be that hard)
1992 Summer Olympics Barcelona
1994 Winter Olympics Lillehammer
1996 Summer Olympics Atlanta
Mortal Kombat- The Original

It looks like, at the moment, we won't be getting much third-party support for this emulated system. So no Konami or EA games for now, I'm afraid.

Any sports game with real players/teams is doubtful (at best) due to licensing issues (the same thing with Indy and Rambo).
There was a Madden 94/NHL 94 plug and play released last year that had the players' names removed, but since the team names (and even the league names) are still in there, it's not likely that they could directly port those versions to the VC.
According to Wikipedia (I know, sketchy) Midway has said that some Mortal Kombat games will be on the VC, but given Nintendo's "no M-rated games" stance, that's kind of in the air right now as well (and yes, I know the original MK was rated MA13, but with the blood code in, it would be rated M).

The NHL and Shadowrun games involve licensing, so they're not likely. Many of the KOEI games are not likely on the Genesis since we already have a precedent (Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire) for them to go with their SNES versions.

Well, of those games, only Shining Force is a true old-school SRPG in the same way that FE and Warsong are. You should be trying to play the original FFT over FFTA. The rest of those are all new-skool SPRGs.

I hear FFT is the best SRPG out there, so if I had a PSP I'd definately pick it up, but maybe if I'm likely I'll find the original somewhere.
I lost interest in FFTA pretty much after I'd tried most of the classes and a lot of the abilities.
