Oh, man, I'm so glad to see they're starting to release them. I love the old school Mega Man games and I can't wait to download Mega Man 1-3. I was never fond of 4-6 however. I just couldn't get into them. Anyway, I'm a happy camper! Yay! :megaman-woot:

I really love the Megaman series. I used to play these to death as a lad. I think Megaman 3 was the best one. Heck they were all good!

I bought the Megaman collection on the cube a few years back. What surprised me having not played these games for almost a decade was how sodding hard they are! If you play on an emulator you can get away using some cheeky save state but playing them normally these days is punishing!

Awesome news anyway. I am honestly amazed that Capcom weren't pushing Nintendo to release all the Megaman games from day one tbh! :megaman:

Same here! I used to play Mega Man 3 all the time! In my opinion, its the best in the series. I loved how they got rid of the jet ski from Mega Man 2 and replaced it with Rush in 3. I love Rush! Oh man, I cannot wait for the VC to get these classic games! 8)

Absolutely. Together with Mario, this series defined the 8-bit generation for me. Mega Man 2 was the first game I completed in toto, and I felt damn fine having done so

I just downloaded it and amn horrified by how slow it runs. Why why why isnt it optimized? And why havnt anyone said anything about it :'( It's almost not playable I'm sad to say. Hopfully the rest of them will be optimized and run at full speed.

PS. Or is all this just me and im missing something?? DS.

Slow? my only concern is that it lags sometimes when many sprites move and stuff

Que? It runs at the same speed it always did, which is 17.5% slower for PAL, but since I assume you'll never have experienced it otherwise, there's nothing to complain about. And crying about it being unplayable is exaggerating things, since it's patently not.

With slower I mean slower than when I played on my good ol' NES. And I wouldn't say I'm exaggerating. The music is slower, the movement is sluggish. It's simply terrible.

Wish me luck people, I'm nearing (I think?) the end of Megaman 1!

I'd go as far as to say I love this game, and that's with no nostalgia, or without playing a single other Megaman before this. Thank you Virtual Console, you've introduced me to yet another classic franchise ^_^

EDIT: What in the...!?

You have to go through every boss again, in one shot, without dying!? Aye carumba!

EDIT2: Ah... That's not quite the case =D I'm still miffed I have to go through every boss again though!

EDIT3(Last one, I promise!):

Hip Hip Hooray!

Completed :D

Yet again, there's no difference, it's all in your mind, rose-tinted glasses are playing havoc with your perception. So yes, you're exaggerating.

@Mip... And we still don't have it in the US! This was probably my favorite series on the NES. However, I never got to play the first one so it is right behind MM2 on my NES most wanted list (MM2 on the other hand is probably my most played NES game of all time bar contra.). But i'm right there with ya buddy where the hell are they! The title of this thread needs to be changed to the "Mega Man series is coming later rather than sooner".

Buntaro

Maybe the US will get MM1 in August, together with Mega Man Starforce for the DS. On the other hand, if I where from the US, I'd get the Mega Man Anniversary Collecton for Gamecube.

crops55
24th July 2007, 06:30 PM
Yea I've thought about getting an MM compilation disc. However, for some reason using the gamecube controller for the old MM games seems vastly unappealing to me. I've played alot of NES Mega Man and anything but two small buttons and a solid D-Pad (not the shotty gamecube one that was made for baby fingers) just isn't going to feel right and it's definitely important to me to retain that feel when I play them. So the Wiimote turned sideways is the best possible way to simulate that feel again and its worth it to me to shell out 15 to 30 bucks (MM 1-6) to make that happen.

While it is a nice controller, it's still just not the same for me. Am I alone here when I say a game like Mega Man needs the smaller buttons the Wiimote has to offer? The gamecube A button just has too much give to it. Ha I don't I guess I'm just crazy but theres certain games that just need to have a specific feel (closest to the NES controller i.e. Wiimote) to them for me to be able to enjoy them to the fullest extent. (I may or may not have a serious case of OCD)

The controller really isn't that bad. I'm a Mega Man player from the old days as well and I adjusted to it fairly well (i.e. I still beat all the games with no issues other than the typical Mega Man frustration you get from playing the games normally). The major hurtle is that for some reason Capcom switched the A and B buttons on the Cube control for whatever reason. That took awhile for me to get used to but besides that Anniversary and X Collections are the way to go from a monetary standpoint. MM 1-8 and two bonus games never released in the US for $20. Much cheaper than what the VC will charge.

In the Elecman stage jump and hit the enemies (if you have regular they freez, moust others kill)

I think the hold up is something to do with Capcom and their Anniversary collection.

I agree with you about the bad controls, with Mega Man you need good controls. The Wii-mote on its side will be like the old NES controller.

Yeah, 500 Wii Points is worth for such a good game. Great controls.
Funky tunes and good graphics for the time.
Definately get it if you're into action games.
It's a gem next to Treasure's efforts, Metroid and the Contra series.

I never played any Mega Man game before. (I tried MEGA MAN X on SNES but couldn't get into it. I think it was too difficult when I was a kid).
After playing MEGA MAN 1 on Wii I understand why it had become such a classic.

To be honest, after playing Mega Man I tried out Mega Man 2. But it's just more of the same.

I suggest starting with Mega Man 1 serves well enough.

And even if I'm the only one, I thought Mega Man 1 is better than 2.
The level design and music in Mega Man 2 wasn't as good as in 1, but that's just my personal taste.
I know pretty much everyone else likes Mega Man 2 or 3,
but why not loving Mega Man 1, 4, 5 or 6?
It's just a question of your personal taste, in the end every Mega Man game is pretty much the same.

There is a fact: With every next Mega Man you get
1. more moves and
2. more levels - therefore more weapons.
But that's all about it.

If you want the most out of your 500 Points (because of more moves and weapons) wait until Mega Man 6. ;)

Guys, I just beat MegaMan 2 and it's not really that hard even in Difficult mode.

I only had problems in the next-to-last level, seriously. Many bosses even get more damage than normal with the standard weapon. The advice I'd give to finish this game without problems would be:

-Only try to beat HeatMan's level once you've got Item-2.
-Try to get as many 1-ups as you can in the first of Dr- Wily's levels, by shooting constantly the worms coming out from the last generator. You'll need those lives in order to beat a later boss with many clash-breakable walls.

And that's it, really. I must say the game feels more polished than MM1, with less bugs... But somebody explain to me why you get an instant-kill if you touch the top of the screen in the Dragon boss battle, please.

but the stages are short,
and you get a password after each stage and you have unlimited continues.
I´ve beaten a couple of stages on my very first try.

Apart from these two MM games I have only played Mega Man X on SNES.
It is much harder!

Are you really saying that MMX is harder than MM1? O.o

I easily beat MMX back in the days (well, ok, Sigma was a bit hard, but nothing too mean), but MM1 is just absurdly hard near the end. Just try and beat the cyclops without the pause glitch...

The easiest time I ever had in a classic MM was in MM2 for the GB. Man, I used to beat that in a single sitting without losing any lives and just one additional energy container in the last boss fight.
The hardest one for me would have to be MMX6 on Extreme difficulty (was it called extreme?...anyway, it was the hardest setting available). Rescuing all civilians was soooo hard to do, especially in the junk level...but the slimy robot thingy-boss was even worse. There is NO WAY, I'm ever gonna try and do that again, now that I have done it once. ^^

Cyclops is beatable without that glitch. You just have to time your jumps right and memorize the pattern. The clone Mega Man is far more difficult than the Cyclops IMO.

Mega Man 1 is not easy!, i mean is not the Lost levels xD but is a challenge (Willy fortress, try beating the yellow devil without the cheap pause trick, not impossible i know^ but still a challenge xP), MM 2 with the high difficulty is also not that easy. Mega Man X was really easy, Sigma final form is the only difficult enemy.

I'm a fan of the NES saga, even when IV, V and VI were not as good, they all are worth to play, too bad they don't seem anywhere close to be released on America (i have them on NES, but these games would be appreciated by a lot of gamers).

Is it a pattern on them? Never noticed, maybe because I die too fast ^_^
Pretty stuck on the Cyclops right now, but I will beat him someday, I know I will :)

I wanted the first 6 NES titles for the VC. Screw the Aniiversary one.

So?, they don't loose anything by making them for the VC.

The Mega Man games are awesome. At least the first three are. After that they started running out of ideas.

Now I'm a supporter of Virtual Console like everyone here but...

You guys do realize that you can go out and buy Mega Man 1-9 plus extras all on one disk for 20 bucks (or your nations monetary equivalent). All it requires is perusing the used bins at a local store that sells used PS2 games.

-sigh-

Why do people keep saying stuff like this. Mega Man 4 is where they invented the CHARGE beam for Mega Man and added new staples to the series that continued into later games. As well as some of the more inventive bosses (and subsequently powers) like Toad Man, Ring Man and Pharaoh Man.

Why must everyone insist Mega Man 3 or X3 is the end all for the Mega Man series.

The Anniversary Collection was never released in Europe, while it's certainly possible to get hold of and play it's not quite as easy as rumaging through the bins. ;) I kept meaning to get it ever since I saw the review in Retro Gamer, you're right though it's better just to get the disc but for some reason the idea of downloading the exact same games on a new console seems more satisfying.

Yeah, I imported a copy of the Anniversary Collection and it loved it, for all of the 1 hour I played it. The next day I updated my Wii's Firmware, and Nintendo blocked my Freeloader, making my Mega Men ineffective.

I can't work out why the MM Collections weren't released over here? I guess that's why the first 2 NES games are currently EU exclusives - since Japan and America have access to the whole series already.

oh guys this is nuts, i spent so much of my childhood beating megamans, not that im extremely old now, but i remember playing with my friends taking turns on continues or bosses, it never failed, after awhile i would just wish my friend would go home because we was messing up my rythym, heh anyways a walk down memory lane i guess. I can't wait for them on virtual console using the wiimote as the nes controller, its the next best thing to an actual nes controller in my opinion. *sigh*

I wonder why it's taking Capcom so long to release these games on the VC in North America. You would think we'd have at least one of them by now. Hmm.
