View Full Version : How many people are actually going to buy Phantom hourglass?

Well I am but some people say no. Since this is the wind waker 2 I want it. It does sound like a good game but all of the controls are with the DS thingy (I have no clue what it's called) I can understand fighting and weapons but I really hate walking with the thingy. Stylus? But Then again if it's completely only with the stylus the controls have to be good...right?

I don't really like the graphics, I'm trying to save up some money to forget about until I really need it (I've only successfully done £40 so far) and I'll already be pre-occupied with Paper Mario 2, Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy.

I'm buying it, too many good reviews and I got the impression that it is the transition episode from the actual Zelda formula (Ocarina's) to finally a new generation of titles.
I'm not for Stylus every time you can, I love how some designer are keeping classic controls for their games, but it seems that PH is heavily designed to be played with the stylus, so it makes a different situation.
The average score (which means nothing, I know!) is the best of any Zelda ever published. It's a portable title and its release date was not that distant from TP......think about it.

Just got Phantom Hourglass today. Only about 10 mins into it and already it's great. Controls work really well but take a bit of getting used to. The map on the upper screen is my favourite feature so far though, you can move it to the touch screen and draw/erase little notes to remind yourself of what people, places, puzzles etc. are :)

Played the game for an hour or two. Quite fun. The stylus controls work extremely well. I'm only having problems with rolling. Graphics-wise it looks great. I like it how it zooms in when I talk to people. In general, the 3D environments look nice, but gameplay-wise it is pretty much like the older 2D Zeldas with better precision controls.

You really should, there's no reason that I can think of not to. The controls really do work great and just simply touching enemies to slash them with the sword is a brilliant idea and stops the annoying part of re-killing them.

Can anyone tear themselves away from their DS and give me some more feedback? How is it compared to Wind Waker? Whats the first dungeon like? How long do you see this quest taking? Things of that nature.

Just finished the game. It was fun, but, at the same time, too easy and too short. 7/10
There really wasn't much challenge in the game, with maybe the exception of Maze Island. Too much aimed at the casual crowd. ... I had no issues with the controls, other than the aforementioned rolling, which is relatively unnecessary. One does actually use a few buttons to make menu and item access/use a bit easier. Overall, the game just seemed a bit too simple to me, all around. Somewhat disappointing actually.
I guess this'll be my first and last handheld Zelda I'll ever bother with. That, or they should finally incorporate into the series different difficulty settings from which one can choose. I very much like Twilight Princess, which did provide challenges, but Phantom Hourglass was a tad ridiculous.

I found Wind Waker quite difficult at times, especially in the "finding out what to do next" sort of situations. Twilight Princess was too easy for me though, 2 more dungeons would have been nice.

I like an easy game really, as long as it's one I'll want to play over and over. Difficulty settings are a very good thing to have though. I'm still trying to complete Professional on RE4 after 2 years and 6 completions of the other difficulty's. It really adds a lot of life to the game.

Good luck trying that with Phantom Hourglass. As far as I'm concerned, it has zero replay value. I'm actually contemplating trading it in with a few other games I'm very unlikely to ever touch again towards a better purchase.

Whoa, I'm really enjoying this game at the moment. I love collecting ship parts and all the treasure maps, plus all the treasure maps and the sea-warping like in Wind Waker. I've done the first 2 dungeons but I'm yet to come across any obvious heart pieces as I haven't really looked for any yet, although I'm very surprised...

Played it now for 24 hours, i think Phantom Hourglass is a bit difficult in the beginning, when youre low on hearts. If you don't save at every new place you'll get a lot of Game Overs. I have seen the Game Over screen not just once or twice. It takes a bit of practise because of the new way of controlling and somehow enemies take more energy. plus there are dungeons running on time (hourglass) and original map/touchscreen puzzles. it's really cool sometimes. the difficulty is just fine.
And it's getting better with every minute you're playing it.

I just got it 3 days ago and i love it so much i havent been able to do anything else but play it. And I think it's a worthy wind waker 2. only 2 things that arn't as good as wind waker that don't much matter. there's no switching between day and night. and so far i think it might be short. I have half the sea chart and it doesn't seam like there's enough islands. But other than that i can't exsprese my love for this game.at first it seamed ok but now it's so good. The phantom hourglass part i thought you would use more but whatever. and difficulty um well just like every zelda game kinda easy. but this game i died more than twilight. and I got stuck on a lot of puzzles. I'm stuck right now but I don't want any help so I'm not gonna say where I am. and well this game really well satisfied my zelda needs, And I think it will have a lot of replay value. And I love changeing my boat and fishing and all of that. And I'm surprised on how well the touch screan controlls work. So far this is my favorite Zelda and I would give it 9/10 or 9.5/10 and now I'm gonna go play it.

Can't it be some puzzle where to use the boomerang?
Like you have to hit the switches in that order with a single move...

I'm stuck again in the Hourglass temple. (played for about 35 hours.)
It's not as easy as TP. There are some very tricky puzzles and the Hourglass temple is quite difficult. It's not Zelda-II-difficulty but it's not comparable to the other rather easy Zelda's as well.
It takes a bit of practice to get around this damn particular dungeon you must enter after every few quests.
Spore
25th November 2007, 11:56 PM
35 hours?! I hope you did every single side quest up to that point to be at such a high time for such a small game. Yes, that temple is a pain and is only there because the developers were to lazy to throw new concepts at us.

But how am I supposed to get better fishes?
Pegasus
26th November 2007, 03:14 AM
35 hours, eh? I wrapped up the game under twenty, and I didn't even try to rush through it. Frankly, the only reason I had a dislike for the Ocean King's dungeon is because I had to do it over and over again - not due to its, to me, very mild difficulty. As said, Maze Island was about the only place that provided any real challenge in the entire game. Anything else wasn't much more than fluff. Yes, the game can be creative, but it falls quite short (in more than just play-time), in the end... and the story was pretty mediocre.
The multiplayer feature was nothing to write home about.
The shoemaker
27th November 2007, 04:20 PM
Yeah I got stuck a few times on the ocean king temple too. I think I'm done with that temple now, I have all of the sea charts. I try to get as much as I can out of the game to make it funner. and well it is trying to run away from that women pirate, finding treasure and stuff. But has anyone else noticed the goron temple was VERY short. all of the others so far were average. The Goron temple was as easy as the first. But I haven't been playing for a while because of Mario Galaxy. But if this game wasn't sailing through sea and finding islands it wouldn't be to good I would be done in 3 days. And Also I think the sea should be bigger and each chart you find should have more than four islands. I think I only have 2 temples left. Oh and I have all the fishes, and tghe way to get all of them is for you to find out! But heres one hint have you gone to wayfers island or whatever. ( the big island with that one bored guy wanting to play a game?) NW

I'm replaying this game again, it's pretty fun, I just beat the wind temple. But since the game is really easy, I'm gonna try and beat the game with only four hearts, the game might actually be a challenge now. Because a lot of the enemies later on in the game can take off 2 hearts per hit, so it might be a challenge.
I gave the online another try today. Like I said it's a nice little add on, but it's not much. It's mostly fun until you start to lose, which for me is often. But it sucks today because I had all of the force gems and the game was so close to being over, when the game froze and I was disconnected. Damn you Nintendo Wi-Fi!
