I got this on the GBA a while ago for a tenner, but I never really enjoyed it as much as the other Zelda games. I'd probably enjoy it more on VC, but I can't help thinking it's a waste to buy it twice if I never liked it that much...

Good choice. This truly is the best zelda game.I doubt it could beat Link's Awakening, or the 3D ones. They were simply awesome 8)

In my opinion link to the past is better than links awakening,WW and TP but not OOT or MM.

I prefer SNES Zelda to the 3D ones, although they're all excellent. I'd love to play Link's Awakening (Gameboy) though, as I hear that that's the best of the 2D ones. I never played it first time around, as I had a GB for only a very short while, so I missed a lot of games.

Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game I actually played through. The handheld ones are surprisingly (or maybe not) outstanding. That includes the Oracle games and the GBA one whose name escapes me... Wikipedia to the rescue: The Minish Cap. It was a bit short though...

Yeah, there were some nasty bugs in some versions of LA that actually broke the cart. I think the rerelease for Gameboy Colour fixed those.

no that was the gameboy colour version.

I'm still thinking... perhaps... in my opinion, Wind Waker is better and ALTTP is the best on the VC?

Despite the fact that it was universally derided, I think the art style of Wind Waker was astonishing. It hasn't aged a day as far as I'm concerned. As for the gameplay... great ideas, but the execution was a bit lax at times. Too much sailing around which felt like padding the playtime.
LTTP is a great game, but I have to say OOT was a more complete game to me. I'd vote that as the best VC release, as much as I love the 2D games.

I don't know why, but I can never get into Zelda games. I buy them though, OoT, LttP, MM...but I never play them. In fact, this VC purchase was a waste.

as i said in the cube posts which actually has a thread on windwaker.. i was saying how out of all the zelda games windwakers graphics were beautifull!..
actually playing the game--
reminded me sraight away of 16th centuary feudal japanese artwork brought to life..! and of course not some japanese artwork in that period which was rather scary.. but the non garish art work which you tend to see on ceramics and things...
...like the clouds and the waves.. good stuff!

I have to disagree with most of you, apart from The Adventures of Link, Wind Waker was the worst Zelda game. I'm not even bringing the graphics into the equation, the game wa too short and easy, I mean this is the only Zelda game where I never died once.
As for ALTTP, it had everything that was great from the first Zelda plus it added much more depth to the series and better play control. Out of all of the 2D Zelda games A Link to the Past is the best.

I never died in TP either.
The Zelda games has gone from hard in the beginning to getting quite easy. ALTTP, OOT, TWW is all the same concept. Find 3 things, get the Master Sword, finish off Ganon in some way.
And I really enjoyed TWW, it was by far the most beautiful game on gamecube and had a good gameplay, the downsides was that the game was shortened in a easyspotted way (the Tri-Force quest, where it should be two temples instead of 7 shards).
But overall I think the game is placed just behind OOT in quality, just after ALTTP and TP, where the latter is the best one.

Take a look here: http://www.w00tcheese.co.uk/videos/super-nintendo-entertainment-system-snes/the-legend-of-zelda-a-link-to-the-past/
It's quite a cool show off video for Link to the Past. Gives a taster of everything, including many of the boss battles for anyone who is considering buying the game.

Best Zelda Ever Made.
'nuff said.
The Soundtrack: Phenomenal.
The Gameplay: Perfect.
The Story: Amazing.
The Graphics: Ahead of its time.
Link to the past is 16 years old already, And I know I will be playing it 50 years from now.
Many people ignore the brilliance in older titles because they are outdated.
But on the SNES, some of the games are some of the greatest ever made.
Back when Sony and Nintendo were working together. Back before 32-bits, there were games that were made this well.
20 years ago, the systems were horrible compared to what they are today.
Now they are better, and still, 16-bit games are some of the best.
I recommend to everyone, to play Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, for it truly is one of the finest games ever made.
I also recommend some of the other great titles for the Super Nintendo:
Secret of Mana
Seiken Densetsu 3(Currently only available by Emulators on the internet)
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Chrono Trigger

Any self respecting Zelda fan has to give this game credit regardless of your favorites. This is pretty much where the current Zelda template originated. Everything in the 3d games takes something from Alttp's format.

A link to the past is the oldest zelda I've ever played so I wouldn't know about the others ones. But yeah all of the 3d takes something from this one. such as the bottles. Going through time, and all of the things like that.

Man I still haven't beaten this game. I finally figured out how to get through the 7th dark world dungeon, to find out I have no clue on how to get in Gannon's tower. I was hoping I'd be able to beat the game today, but nope. This must be the 100th timel I've gotten stuck in this game.
Haha I've had this game for a year now and I still haven't beaten it! Man do I ever suck

Yeah I beat all ten dungeons, gotten all of the items, missing two hearts, but yeah i've pretty much gotten everything. But the reason i couldn't get in way because Ithought the big pryimid was gannon's tower. It turns out Ganno's Tower was right beside the lastdungeon I was in lol.
anyways I'm gonna beat it tonight. This will be my first time ever beating ALTTP.

It's a duck? I thought it was a white bird lol.
But yeah I just beat it a few minutes ago. It was really fun. It took me a bit to figure out how to beat the wizard, and Gannon was easy once you knew how to beat him. But it took me a few tries because i keept falling of the edge.
But yeah I'm really happy I finally beat it, This was the hardest Zelda games I've ever played. I wish some of the newer ones were like this.

What I love about ALTTP these days is that I've played through it so many times that I know where everything is, I know all the boss patterns, etc., so that I can kick back and finish it in a couple of hours, and it's still pure joy.
I actually haven't downloaded this yet, just because I played it to death back in the day, but now maybe I will. It's been at least 10 years since my last playthrough.
Ocarina is still my fav Zelda game, though.

Bah! Maybe it's because I grew up with it right in line with the series (I played each Zelda—I, II, and III—in order as they were released), but I never thought Link to the Past was very difficult. Just epic. So much fun stuff to do, but all very manageable. Exploration is also more fun (and easier) than in the previous games, simply because the world has more depth.
