One of the greatest puzzle games around, only topped by adventures of lolo.
Too bad that there will be no lemmings on VC since sony now owns it:(

I know you could play Lemmings 2 - The Tribes on the SNES with the SNES mouse. That made the controls much better than with the SNES controller.

It would be great if any of these mouse compatible SNES games (Cannon Fodder, Mario Paint, Utopia) could be emulated by the Wiimote pointer function.

Vegas Stakes and Mario's Super Picross have been released. They used the SNES mouse if Wikipedia is right. Any info on the controls? It's likely that they use only the standard d-pad control but it would be great if Nintendo tried to emulate the mouse with the Wii pointing feature.

I saw the Windows PC version on sale for less than £2 yesterday, I recommend everyone goes for that, it's a great game. Lemmings would be great with the Wiimote, shame it'll never happen.

L-E-M-M-I-N-G-S!
:D
(Do do, doo-de-doo do do dooo, do de doo do do doo, do de do do do-dahdahdahdahdahdahdah!)

But yeah, I love the game. Best puzzler by a fair few country miles, and an incredibly fun and satisfying little gem to play. It's a real shame Sony own the rights, as I'd love to see either the SNES or MD versions of the game on the VC (I don't mind the d-pad control at all).

Yeah, Sony doesn't even make good levels, too much "do this!" then "how do you do this?"

I think more than anything, there's a certain charm and style the original had that none of the newer Lemmings games have been able to. I have mixed feelings about the direction Team 17 took with the PS2/PSP versions, and even the official sequels didn't quite do it. Still, it's a great series of games (I even liked the Paintball one! I haven't had the misfortune of playing the 3D one, heh), but one that definitely peaked the moment it started.

Is Lemmings 2: The tribes even any good?

Lemmings was the original, an undeniable classic
You could make them bash trough walls, dig into the ground, build stairs etc.

It was ported to the NES, SNES and MD as well as GameBoy, GameBoy Color, Master System, Game Gear and other platforms.
None of them could reach the quality of the AMIGA original.

Lemmings 2: The Tribes had more than 50 different skills:
Swimmer, Runner, Bazooka, Pole Diver, Musician, Hangglider, Super Lemming and many others. It was the best sequel in my opinion, with a nice story, good musics and 120 puzzling levels.

It was ported to the SNES, MD and GameBoy.
Again, the ports couldn't reach the original, but they were close.

I didn't like the 3D backgrounds of the PS2/PSP version, it didn't feel right and the soundtrack is wrong, but at least you got some extra levels.

I couldn't get into any of the sequals (Lemmings 2 etc).

Vegas Stakes and Mario's Super Picross have been released. They used the SNES mouse if Wikipedia is right.
I have Super Picross, doesn't use the mouse as far as I know.

Lemmings 2 was Heaven for fans of the first one, but it definitely was inferior. Having so many skills at once made for an unnecessarily steep learning curve, something the original game did so well, and as I said in my previous post it doesn't quite capture the charm of the first one (Although it comes closer than most of the other Lemmings games). Still a great game though, and you haven't lived until you've seen a lemming hang-glide!

I wasn't even aware that Sony now owns the Lemmings brand. That explains why the DS didn't get a version of the remake. Too bad, too. DS would have been the perfect platform control-wise.

Thinking about it, DS and Wii would be the perfect consoles for Lemmings.
The controls would be so much better. It's time for Psygnosis to wake up.

Yeah, anyway. Whoever owns Lemmings now needs to wake up and put them on the consoles they fit best.

There is a homebrew port of the original for the DS which is apparently very good, I need to get around to getting an R4 for it (And for Cave Story DS when that's finished!)

I love Lemmings, it's such a shame we'll never see it on VC or DS :(
I have part 2 on Megadrive, but currently no access to the console.
Maybe I should get a SNES one off Ebay...

Why not get the PC version? Less than 2 quid on Amazon and you get to use a mouse.
