How many blocks is this? Curious since I only have around 100-200 left. T.T

Ouch, this and Gate of Thunder are really going to take up space on my Wii.

*Puts getting a SD Card on the TO DO List*

By the way, the VC gets the censored version of KOF94, so the same will probably apply to "Samurai Shodown". What a bummer.

Isn't there a cheat you can do to uncensor the game? I believe you press A + C (controller 1) in the high score menu whilst holding down B + D (controller 2) , but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this?

Edit: Apparently, in one version, you can press A + D on controller 1, whilst pressing B + C on controller 2, whilst the game is showing the high score table, to unlock the blood from the Jap. version.

Censored? What was censored?

Jiggling boobies and blood, I think.

Jiggling boobies and blood, I think.

True, for all KOF-iterations. Samurai Shodown became completely bloodfree, as well, and finishing moves / mutilations were cut. Since they added a lot to the Samurai-theme, it's a real shame.

I highly doubt that there is a working cheat code for the NeoGeo-versions since they are direct arcade games, not ports. It may look different on NeoGeo CD, but on Virtual Console we're getting the cartridge-based game...which would be basically a good thing, just not in this case.

OK, after downloading KOF 94 last night, I have confirmed that there is a code to restore blood (although I'm not sure it's as much as the uncensorsed version) and Mai's... ahem, 'bounciness'.

Sit through the games opening, and the game showing a little demo of a fight, until the high scores come up (i.e. SNK - 500000pts, or whatever). Here, press A+D on controller 1 (B + Y on a Gamecube controller, b + x on a classic controller) at the same time as pressing B + C on controller 2 (A + X on a Gamecube controller, a + y on a classic controller), then press start on controller 1. And you're done! You can go to the game menu and if you did it right, you'll see Mai's chest bouncing.

Note: No chime will sound to indicate the code has been done
Note: I think this code has to be re-inputted every time player 1 loses a 'credit', but I'm not sure.

Now Nintendo just need to abolish 50hz mode for the EU VC, and we can all play KOF the way it was intended :P.

That's great news, thanks! Didn't think it would work, but it certainly will on the US Virtual Console, as well.

Three questions, though:

1. You say you're not sure if the amount of the blood is the same, but would they really change anything about THAT? I think it's blood or no-blood, but not a-little-blood. If I remember correctly, KOF was never that bloody anyway, at least not '94. Okay, this wasn't so much a question but a comment on my part. :)

2. Have you found out whether the code has to be re-entered every time? If that is the case, when does it have to be done in single player? When I lose a credit, the continue-timer comes up, and if I use one I don't get to see the highscore list. When would I have to re-enter the code? (but it's been a while since I played that game, so maybe I got it wrong and the list does in fact show up, even after using a continue)

3. I suspect subsequent iterations of KOF were also censored. Does this code apply to them, too?

1. Well, I haven't played the original, so I can't say. Maybe I was just expecting more blood :p

2. I believe the code has to be re-entered everytime player 1 loses a credit, but I don't think this applies in multiplayer fights; I think in multiplayer sessions, the code always stays on, but again, not sure yet.

3. I think this code only applies to KOF 94, but I'll try to see if there are similar codes for the others in the series.

1. Well, I'm fairly sure the amount of blood is the same. It's not supposed to be as much as in "Samurai Shodown", which makes sense....

Btw.: There's no blood code for that one, huh?

2. But where do you re-enter the code? You lose a battle, the continue screen pops up, you push "Start" and on it goes. There's no highscore table in between, as far as I can remember.

Well, I'd appreciate it if you could post anything you find out.

3. That would also be great. What a notion, being able to play all KOF-episodes on Wii uncut, someday. :D:D:D

I am annoyed with the classic controller configuration. I would prefer to have y = Light P x = Hard P b = Light K a = Hard K Seeing as how the Classic controller is a beautiful design for fighters, I was looking forward to such a setup, but I don't like the way it's set up now. (And for curiosity's sake... look at the button layout in the operations guide. Notice anything? Yeah. It's WRONG.) That's not all that's wrong. Look at some of the character's names. "Heidern" is listed as "Jeidern" in more than one spot (interestingly enough, the same mistake was made in the Gameboy version of KOF95)... and Lucky Glauber is named "Lucky Glover". The censoring doesn't bother me as much as this stuff does. I would love it if I could configure the buttons.

From what I know, only '94 and '95 have a blood/bounce code, that's excluding SamSho and such. However, Eolith did remove bounciness in KOF2001...

I don't think '96-'00 had any restrictions. I'd have to check again though. I know for a fact the home versions did NOT get censored. Also, SamSho V Special actually had it's own "censored" boards/carts.

Excellent review. Pretty much everything I ever thought about the game, except for Kyo being "popular". He's a good character though.
