View Full Version : If Prime 3's controls are as good as people claim, would...

You like to see a remake of 1 and 2 with updated graphics, new controls and maybe a few new bits thrown in for good measure, on a cool Prime compilation disc?
Personally I would. I really enjoyed Prime 1 and was enjoying Prime 2. But the thing that always irritated the hell out of me (So much so that I never beat 2. Which is why i've just re-bought it) were those awful controls
Hunters when it hit, had phenominal controls and I was racing through it with joy because no longer was Prime a chore to play :)
I've never liked it when games with a first person view (Before someone moans about it not being an FPS. I know it isn't technically. But it's FP and you shoot... ALOT. So I don't care if it's a mix of FPS and Adventure, it's stil an FPS! Just with a damn good story :D) differ from conventional control layouts. First Person games generally have the same layout and there's a reason to that. Because it's the the best layout you can have!
So Prime 3 is my most wanted/anticipated game. It looks amazing and I can't wait to see how it plays with the new controls (Which are being hyped up the high heavens from the likes of IGN) and I just want it to hurry the hell up and come out, so that I can get stuck in and play all day :D
I just hope it's not a dissapointment.

I believe Retro Studios hinted a possible Wiimake of the first 2 MPs so its very possible... ;)

Frankly, I wouldn't care either way if they made remakes of them. I probably wouldn't buy them. The GC games work fine for me. I've never had any issues with the controls in MP 1 or 2. Actually, I found them to be (at that time) some of the most intuitive controls I've come across in a video game.

Strike 2 Jon.
Because, they're good now. But they could be perfect :D
So seriously, you didn't have major problems with aiming?
Samus' incredibly slow movements with her granny arm and her auto spring back from the giant elastic band that's attatched to her, where if you so much as move and inch your aim goes straight back to the center again, unless you hold "L" which is useless when it's designed to lock on, so usually you'll lock onto the wrong thing (Which is why you're aiming manually in the first place), didn't once get you killed?
Especially on Ridley or the end boss of 2? That thing with the 8 Tentacles? (I think he was the end, I could never get past his third form, always lost to much energy aiming up Tentacle guy)
Wow

The large analog function on the gamecube controllers shoulder buttons means that you can press them to a point before it says "click", if you hold it there you will be able to move and hold the aim without locking onto the target. I really missed that with the Wii Nunchuk's Z button on Twilight Princess.
I'm currently trying to speedrun MP for some good fun and it's a really useful movement since it's faster than turning around.
And maybe back to topic. I don't think people would buy a remake, it's too soon after the original games. The game would need to contain both MP games and lots of goodies to sell good. Lots of calibration would need to be done to the game to fit the new controller. If Nintendo keeps about the same controller for the next generation, then I think a remake would be more appealing.

I think Metroid Prime + Echoes had the right control scheme and functionality the games needed.
Of course, if one is an FPS fan, would feel unconfortably tied-up with the locking system, but if he feels so strange he may choose not to use it.
The fact that it is so useful is that it doesn't matter how good an analog stick is, its course is limited and would never provide the sensitivity of a true analog controller (ie: mouse, stylus).
I look forward to MP3 with great hope, since me too I find Hunters to be a masterpiece of smooth control, and can't wait to experiment a true (no-aid) free look/aim system.
Different configurations should fit every style of different gamers.
And to finally answer the original question:
No, maybe in 15 years.
MP and Echoes are perfect games as they are, if they have to be improved, it should be something BIG.
Can't understand this need of remakes of games that are fairly young. And the fact that all of us like retrogaming I can't figure out why this argument pops out so often.

I'd enjoy a Wiimake, as long as it was a free gift with preorders on prime 3, or very cheap, i refuse to pay 34.99 for rehash of last gen games.
I thought the controls in Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were perfect, suited the genre well, I hope Prime 3, doesn't lose out on great controls.

there are a few games where a remake would actually help.
body harvest, aydin chronicles, translated japanese games that we could play properly for the first time.
but metroid prime 1+2 were good the way they were. a remake is not needed at the time. maybe 2 generations later, if they could make the graphics much more detailed then i would buy them again.

The original Prime is one of my favorite games. I thought the controls for both are awesome and I had no problem with them. I see what you're saying though. Since Resident Evil 4 just came out with a Wii makeover.....wouldn't Prime 1 and 2 be good candidates for make-overs also? Wouldn't they be better with the new control scheme? They probably would be better but the market isn't there and I'm willing to bet that it would tie up too many resources....which is bad for us because we would see less new Wii games. I personally would rather play new games then remade games. I'm sure the new Resident Evil 4 is better but I'm not going to buy another copy and replay it.

Well, Resi 4 went for around £25-30 so I m sure it wouldnt be full price. And considering that was Capcom, it could very well be cheaper. And since both games became Player's Choice titles, I reckon £19.99-24.99 could happen. :)

Resident Evil was sold for fullprice in sweden...
I think Retro Studios should focus on creating a game of their own. After soon three Metroids I think it would be good for them to make their own game, I think that it would be good since Retro Studios has proven that they are one of the best.

If I hadn't bought prime 1 and 2 then I would by crying out for a remake but no way would I buy them again just for some better controls (its the same with RE4, sigh...)
It would be much better for them to just move onto prime 4 but thats not gonna happen cos its a trilogy.
