View Full Version : HD COMPONENT CABLES: DON'T BUY

There is a reason why wii hd component cables has dropped dramatically in price, from $40 to now a cheall $10.

Here's why.

THE CABLES DON'T DO ANYTHING.

games are meant to be played in 480i/,and looks no different in 480p. theres no difference, i wasted my money :(

however....

there are rumors that the launch of metroid prime 3 will use an updated firmware, which specifically is a graphics update!!! i hope this is true, wii needs to go AT LEAST 720p. that can be done with yet another simple firmware update. then the cables will actually be worth something : )

anyone hear anything more or different about metroid 3 launch?

Well, 480p isn't a graphics improvement. It's simply the same resolution displayed in progressive scan. On my 40" Sony LCD TV the difference isn't huge, but it's certainly crisper and less blurry.

Interpolated images are in reality only shown at half of the actual framerate because the entire screen only refreshes once every two frames. More to the point, the loss of overscan means the games keep their resolution as intended, which is also a bonus. Colours should also be clearer because of the separation of the video signal. The Wii is not capable of displaying graphics at above 480 pixels vertical resolution, firmware update or not - the hardware can't deal with the increased texture resolutions, so hoping for an increase to 720p is, unfortunately, wishful thinking.

All of these things are true for my TV, which is why I'm happy with the purchase of the cable. If you know what you're getting into and are not expecting high-res miracles, the cable is a sensible purchase. If you're not sure the gains on your TV are going to be noticeable, you're not going to be happy, no matter how cheap they make the cable.

There was a lot of talk about Nintendo releasing a HD wii 5 years later.

yeah...i heard that nintendo has been working on their new project longer than they worked on the wii. i think they realized that hd is the way to go, but hyped up the wii merely for the new control scheme.

as for the first response, 720 isnt wishful thinking. wii can do just about anything they want using their hardware and using firmware updates. read about it.

Eh? I've read about it plenty, thank you very much, and that seems to be criticism I can direct right back at you. Next time, don't state opinion ("rumours", "I've heard") as fact and tell people to read about it; link to the 12-year-old ranting on a blog that you supposedly got your information from. Even the link above says that though the GPU is HD-capable, they can't do it at an acceptable frame rate, ergo, they can't do it. What do you think firmware updates are? Magic fairy dust that speeds up the processor? Jeez...

i never said i knew, i just simply disagree with the notion that it's impossible.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/08/vicious-engine-envisions-creative-wii-fps-controls/

its possible the vicious graphics engine itself (hopefully to be shown in metroid 3) will provide us with 720 fantasticness

also, if u knew everything, which is how you talk, you'd be working for nintendo. but you dont. so stop talking down to people merely using eduacated guesses. nintendo does not discuss the wii's capabilities a lot because they dont want us to know...for a reason.nintendo has something up their sleeve and until we know for sure dont run your mouth like you know everything *****

There's absolutely nothing "eduacated" about you... I don't talk down to people in general, only idiots who can't seem to turn off the caps lock key when they type a thread name, and troll forums with poorly written and thought out comments, without knowing anything about the people they're talking to, or as in your case, at. Go see in the "Introduce yourself" thread what it is I do, and then comment about my intellect. Don't sit in your room typing "*****" like you just learned a new word. You're talking with the grown-ups now. Learn to spell first.

And that is all I have to say on the subject. I'm not getting involved in a protracted argument with seemingly the single useless **** on a forum that's so far been free of them. End of.

Next time, don't make fun of someone's typo when you seem to have trouble spelling yourself :)

"rumours". nice.

and also, where is the response to what i said, besides you *****ing about the comment in general. did you read the article? i wanted to discuss this further but someone has sand in his vagina...and instead of responding intelligently you decide to cry and then run away from the issue.
