Interesting, as I ve never played a HM game before. So like Megaman and Kirby before it, the VC could introduce me to another gaming franchise. =D

Me too, but the whole "farming" setting really doesn't interest me much...

Me too, but the whole "farming" setting really doesn't interest me much...Yeah, but a lot of people love it, so it must be pretty good.
Anyone know if this SNES version is good compared to other versions?

The SNES version is what started the entire series, I've played some of the games and the SNES one is pretty good but rather short compared to some of the others, don't remember exactly. The major downside about HM games is that not that much has changed since that first one on SNES, the real fans usually say that the N64 version is the best one, it was never released in europe so I haven't tested that one but I think that the GBA version is the best one I've played to this date.
So in short, it's a good casual game that you can beat rather fast, but it's also lots of fun on the way, but a bit imperfect since it's the first game in the franchise.

I love the Gba one I've never played the Snes one how good is it compared to the Gba one?

See it as a "light" version of the GBA one, less people, less crops, less tools and so on. I haven't played it on a long time so I might forget something.
And I think the GBA version is...what? 30 years longs (gametime) while the SNES version is like 3-5 years. I might be mistaken on this one though.
But basically, if you have the GBA version you won't need the SNES version, but it can be good fun to play a HM game on the big screen.

I loved Harvest Moon on the SNES..
It was much better than the Game Boy and Gamecube versions.
I think the SNES version is the only version that is bug free.
Recommended for all people who like life/farming sims.
I played through it three times and I download it again to finally marry the pink haired girl and see her ending.
My rating: This was birth of a new classic series. 5 Stars.

Oh, forgot to mention to never buy/loan/play the GameCube version, it's like a crippled, newly awaken snail. Basically the slowest game in the history.

Yeah the Gamecube version was full of bugs. I sold it.
It has great graphics but 3D doesn't fit with the gameplay.
The controls are sluggish already but in 3D it's just horrible.
And 7 years? Who on earth wants to play it 7 (virtual) years?
I've played it until the third year. Then it bored me too much to play further, because there really isn't happening much day after day.
There are only 3 girls, instead of the five in the SNES version.
And then the laughable translation.....
You're much better off with the SNES version.
This is just at the right pace, just in the right size,
with more focus on fun and gameplay.
The GC version isn't as bad as it sounds, but it could have been much better. Another disappointment after the EU didn't got Harvest Moon 64.

I loved the gameboy versions of HM so I hope this one comes soon!

Is it really that bad? I was thinking of buying it eventually so I could try the gba linkup stuff...
Sounds like I should just stick to Rune Factory

Out of all the Harvest Moons, I think the one on the N64 was the best. I'll probably wait for that one.

Might be awhile before we see the N64 version. I think Ninty want to get their first party classics out the way before the Third Party stuff rolls in... :(

Wasn't there also a Game boy Harvest moon? I remember seeing one in a used game shop.

Yeah there's a stripped down Game Boy Color version. It's bad because you can't run around in towns in that one. It's just a map.
Avoid the GBC and GC version.

Well, the game has now touch down in Europe.
Now for the biggy question (For me anyway), how many blocks is it?

As long as you want, think The Sims, you can try new ways of doing things again and again. But a normal playtrough...dunno since it was a long time since I played it, maybe around 15-20 hours, might be wrong though.

I have beaten this on SNES four times (blonde girl, red haired girl, brown haired girl, and the pinky). I don't know how long I've played this game, but it's certainly more than 100 hours.
Now on VC I'm going to marry the blue haired girl. Now that I know every secret I think it's going to take approx. 20 hours until the ending.
So, it has replay value,
even if it's just marrying another one of the 5 girls...
and getting no children or 1 or 2... (I'm trying to get 2 kids)
and building your farming ground in a different way
getting all the secret berries..
getting the biggest house...
getting a full barn of cows and chicken...
getting all the extras and items.
and getting 15 different endings.
There's much to do, but it's kept simple and easy and that's why I always going to re(p/b)eat this game.
All the other Harvest Moon games get boring somewhere in the middle - they're just too long!
The first one, (this one!), the SNES version, is still perfect.
5 Stars
I'm now at the 1st year Summer.
The blue haired girl loves me (6 hearts)
And my house is level 2.
I screwed up some of my farming ground, but I don't care.
My next goal is to get a cow and make her pregnant ;)
