Hi Everyone,
I e-mailed Commodore to ask them if:
Is it possible that Giana Sisters (the Super Mario Bros clone) could be released on Virtual Console?
Is there a possibility that Amiga games could be released on Virtual Console?And I got the reply:
========
Hi Ravi,
Thank you for your interest (and downloads!).
As for an answer to your questions:
1. Not unlikely, actually. As you might know this title caused a big lawsuit at the time in which Nintendo and the game’s developers Rainbow Arts were the main characters. But Nintendo does not feel as strong about Giana Sisters nowadays anymore. I won’t promise anything, but it’s not impossible!
2. This is also a possibility, but if they are, it won’t be us who will be publishing / releasing. Commodore no longer has rights over Amiga, you see?
========
So there you have it! Even Giana Sisters could make it's way to VC! :D

PS: I'm new here: sorry if I posted in the wrong forum..

Cool! Now if we could just get Commodore support in the US...

I'd rather just play the version with the man with the mustache.

Commodore filed bankruptcy back in the '90s and the Amiga brand changed hands.

Ditto. We had Giana Sisters on our breadbox. Not a bad game, by any means, but it just hasn't got the same vibe as SMB.

This could very well be an attraction for some people. I'm sure there are also crazy SMB completists out there who want to play every derivative and clone they can find.

But being crazy shouldn't be encouraged... =(
Giana sisters is a bit like the poor man's SMB, anyway.

Haha, I have always wanted to try this little Mario Rip-off, does it have the same levels as Mario? Even though there isn't any C64 games in NZ, I gifted Sco Megaman so he said that if I want a C64 game then he will get it for me, oh the great power of gifting!

Can you gift games from different areas? Or is it just Pal to Pal? I'm just curious if I found myself a kind person in japan - would they be able to gift me a game from that region?

You can only gift games within your country. I am in Canada. I can only send and receive gifts to and from other Wiis with Canada as their registered country.
Of course, you can simply change your country setting in the options menu, but only within your region.

Looks like a fun game. So, who has the rights to the amiga then?

I think it's a company called Amiga, Ltd., presumably started up specifically in order to buy the Amiga rights.

I don't know, I actually prefer Giana to the first two NES Mario games. SMB3 is much better, of course.

It'd be interesting in a historic way.

Yeah, I agree, I hope they bring C64 support to Canada soon. Not that I want any of the games that are on it right now, but there are a few I can think of that I would get when they come out.

I have to be honest, I can't imagine Giana Sisters would come out on VC, simply because it's a shameless Nintendo rip-off, it wasn't that popular and the grim reality is that it isn't that good. When I finally got my hands on it I was really let down!
As for the Amiga, there is hope. The rights to the Amiga hardware are indeed owned by Amiga Ltd, after being owned by Escom, Gateway and then Amiga International. However, they licence the software emulation of the 'classic Amiga' hardware (e.g. A500/A1200 etc) to a company called Clonato who sell a commercial emulator. I'm assuming that there's probably more money to be made flogging an Amiga emulator for VC, so I wouldn't be suprised if they teamed up with some of the developers of old and we started seeing some classic Amiga games on VC one day. At least that's what I hope anyway!

How incredibly bizarre! I'm not a big fan of SMB to begin with, but given the chance, I'd have to play Giana Sisters for the sheer wtfery.
