It just came to my mind, that i actually bought a Gamecube with my Wii. So i bought myself a Memory Card and a handy Controller and... Star Wars Rogue Leader :D

And i love it. Another great Factor 5 Star Wars Game.

What Games, besides Resident Evil and Nintendos own Games (Zelda, Mario, Metroid...), should i get for my 'Cube'? What are the perls and hidden Treasures?

I know you said no Nintendo games but Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is cool.

The Prince of Persia series is good. I also like the Super Monkey Ball series. I've never played them but I heard the Viewtiful Joe series is good. I also played the crap out of Timesplitters 2.

Yeah, I'd second Eternal Darkness and Timesplitters 2. Very solid games, and the first is a GC exclusive.

I'll have to agree with this. Don't be put off by the looks, this one went completely under the radar when it came out last year, but it's an extremely good game.

Wo~ow... thank you. All of you. I guess i have to return to this second-hand Game store tomorrow and get some games.

And i guess picking the PS2 instead of the Cube was THE mistake of the yet young millennium, eh?

Beach Spikers Virtua Beach Volleyball.

It's made by Sega and for some reason was only released on the cube which would explain why hardly anyone knows about it.

Where other Volleyball games such as DOA xtreme focus on exaggerated polygon females, Sega instead focused on a fun 'pick up and play' game play style. That doesn't mean the girls in Beach Spikers don't look good. Beach Spiker's polygon females look great but are realistically modeled rather then exaggerated.

This game is best played with a group of 4. The single player mode lets you create your own team and build up your player's experience via playing games so that you can ultimately win the tournament. It has a bit of an rpg twist for a sports title.

Not necessarily. The PS2 has a solid catalogue too, and has got something of a second wind in its twilight years.

No way! The PS2 has a ton of great games. The only problem I had was that my original PS2 stopped reading games. Anyone who disses another system is just jealous. I wish I had them all.:)

Not meaning PS2 is bad, I've been posting in another topic that it was quite good. GC is just better. Xbox is meh except for a few of its games though. The 360 seems to be going with a well balanced game library though as is the Wii and PS3.

The only thing the GC had over PS2 was first party Nintendo titles. I'm not interested in a lot of Nintendo's franchises thus rendering the GC useless to me. PS2 had all the third parties and that's why it was the best. Xbox had better graphics then PS2 but not as much third party support.

I'm glad to see that Nintendo is improving their third party support. The only problem with third party support on the wii right now is a lot of companies don't know what they're doing and they're releasing ps2 ports. If I wanted to play a ps2 game I would play it on my ps2; not the wii port.

no ps2 has some good games, it depends what your into. Plus online is an option at least with the ps2, way more than the cube anyways. Metal gear solid for cube was a great game as well, basically a enhanced version of the psone game but still good.

The number one must-have on the GCN in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. It's a tactical RPG with a ton of depth, multiple difficulty levels, great characterization, and it's tons of fun!

Other games that complete the GCN collection are Super Smash Bros. Melee, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Master Quest, and Skies of Arcadia Legends.

Other good games include Tales of Symphonia (which can be found on the PS2, so I don't really count it here) and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (which can be found on the Wii, so I don't really count it here).

Yep! There is some character art and I believe one or two new maps for Trial Mode. I bought a GBA-GCN link cable from the Nintendo Store specifically for the purpose!

I wish I had the japanese version for Path Of Radiance so that I could get Fuuin No Tsurugi artwork except for one thing

THERE'S SO MUCH F'IN DIALOGUE THAT THE GAME WOULD BE RUINED (but that f'in dialogue is why I love Fire Emblem so much).

Somehow I missed out on the GC Fire Emblems...looks like I'm gonna have to pick them up.
Although I think I'll always prefer it on the Advance (or DS if it ever gets there). Something about handheld strategy games I love.

Anyways, I know they've already been mentioned but Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requeim and Killer 7 are definately over looked masterpieces.

ED may be one of the most unique survival horror games I've ever played, and the story is excellent (if your an H.P Lovecraft fan, than this game is a must).

Killer 7 is definately a love it or hate it game, but well worth your time.
Sure the gameplay is kinda limited, and the story whacked out (but in a good way!). But the game is just such a cool experience!
I don't want to go into the details though, because I don't ruin it for you!

Anyways, there are alot of overlooked GC games, but I think those two are the most egregiously overlooked of all.

Please do get the Gamecube Fire Emblem, but I definetely agree with you about the handhelds. Depth on the go .

Eternal Darkness and Killer 7 are both underlooked gems, but I recommend Eternal Darkness, as it breaks the 4th wall more (and I love me some good 4th wall breaking). Killer 7 is more of an interactive movie (an interactive GOOD movie). Unfrotunately, my parents won't let me get it due to its M rating, and many reviewers say it actually deserves that rating.

I personally find the whole console as an overlooked gem in its own right.

It's odd, as I find I'm the opposite. Strategy is my fave genre, but when it comes to handhelds I just can't seem to get into them. I play the GBA Fire Emblems on my GCN's GB player.

If you do have trouble finding Path of Radiance, let me know. I have a second copy. :)

For me, it's not about the portability (but I personally find it a PLUS due to accesibility), it's just that I prefer the storyline of Fire Emblem and Fuin over Path Of Radiance (although Sacred Stones was.. meh). Also,, I find the 3-D graphics somewhat lifeless. They really need to improve on theme/cell shade. I mean, look at Metroid Prime, or Legend Of Zelda The Windwaker. Although the Advanced Wars series is perfect for portability, just as Battalion Wars is perfect for consoles.

I guess it comes down to personal preference on that count! I love the stories of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn far more than my experience of Fire Emblem so far (the only portable one I've played very far into—Stones is on the shelf waiting its turn). I also happen to think the 3D graphics look great. So there you have it!

The portability thing is a big issue, though, at least in how people use their games. For me, portable game systems are great for quick little short burst games, since that's all I have the attention span and time for when I'm on the go (in the bus, or whatever). But I can cozy up in bed and have a long go at strategy games on a home console.

I can see your point of view, even if I only partly share it. We can all agree that Path Of Radiance is one of Gamecube's best titles and any self respecting Gamecube owner should snag them both up with the addition of the GBA Player!

I actually think strategy games are perfect for portables, since they offer deep gameplay that is easily pulled off on a portable, and can be played in short burst or marathon sessions.
But thats just me.

As for Fire Emblem, I was quite impressed with its story. But I agree that Stones story is abit of a letdown.

I just think it's a difference in our preferred games. When I say strategy in this context, I'm not thinking Advance Wars, I'm thinking Romance of the Three Kingdoms. RTK can lend itself to long stretches without saving. Even the implementation of a battle save feature would only solve part of the problem, since coming back to the game in the middle of a huge battle could be quite disorienting.

I want RTK XI for the Wii to finally get a North American release.

I think Jogurt meant that it's hard to really focuse on a handheld game, wwhile playing on a console makes it much easier to get into.

I did think Sacred Stones was a bit of a letdown, but compared too many other games, it still had a pretty good storyline (just not good as other iterations of the franchise that we've seen on US shores.

I really wish that Japan wouldn't be so selfish and share some of the Japan only Fire Emblem's with us. Oh, and Mother and Mother 3.

Yeah, I can appreciate that. To be honest I just like handheld gaming in general...I really don't know why.

As for Sacred Stones I actually thought it improved a few gameplay elements on the first GBA Fire Emblem, but the story was definately a let down (it was servicable, but nothing special).

Now here's to hoping some of those NES and SNES Fire Emblems come to the Virtual Console!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to understand them since I don't know Japanese and they won't translate them. :(

Adding something to what Refa said earlier (and steering this back on topic again, very gently), I'd argue that the Gameboy Player itself is a GCN must-have, simply for the wealth of games it offers for play on the big TV with. If it weren't for the GBP, I wouldn't play half of the GBA games I do.

This is really turning into more of a Fire Emblem thread then a Gamecube reccomendation thread :D.

If you like handheld Fire Emblems, then you should be dissapointed and happy. The bad news is that we didn't get Fuuin No Tsurugi (the GBA sequel to Fire Emblem that came out before Fire Emblem (think the Star Wars movies and you'll get the picture)), and the good news that that Fire Emblem 3 (a repackaging in itself of the first Fire Emblem with a brand new sequel that continued the storyline) is coming to the DS as Fire Emblem DS.

I thought that the gameplay elements in Sacred Stones were mismatched, as there was ALWAYS one job that was better than the other, and the game was WAY TOO EASY in general (unless you're on hard mode, of course)

I don't think we'll get the 1rst or the 3rd Fire Emblem on the VC (due to already said reasons on Fire Emblem DS), but who knows? EIther way, we should still get Gaiden and the SNES ones.
