View Full Version : What GC Game Are You Playing Right Now?

I missed out on the cube so the Wii is a great opportunity to play some of the gems I missed out on.
I just got Metroid Prime in the mail (I have MP3 on Wii but I'm going to play through this one first.
So far its great! I'm a huge fan of the 2D Metroids and I've been kind of wary about playing these new 3D ones since I wasn't a huge fan of Hunters. However this is turning my opinion around!
Also I got Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and Starfox Adventures lined up
So my question is to you guys, what GC games are you playing/replaying right now?

I'm like you; I never had a GCN, so the Wii is my chance to go back and get some of the gems that I missed. I'm not playing any right now because of Brawl, but just before Brawl was released I played through Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Brilliant tactical RPG. I also snagged copies of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Skies of Arcadia Legends for play later on sometime.

Wind Waker is def on my list of games to get, I loved Phantom Hourglass and WW is the only big Zelda I haven't played yet. I was thinking about getting the Fire Emblem for Wii but after hearing how un-noob-friendly it is, I'm going to wait for the DS remake of the original, slated for later this year (hopefully).
I'm also thinking of grabbing the Resident Evil 1 remake! However its kind of pricey wherever I'm looking.

You heard wrong about Fire Emblem! Just play on Easy and it'll be a breeze. The un-n00b-friendliness was probably on account of no in-battle saves, but you don't really need them if you're playing on Easy mode anyway. Plus you'd be missing out on a great story. The game will guide you through the mechanics well enough. It would only be too hard if you suck. ;)
I'm looking forward to the DS FE as well, but if it comes to Japan later this year, I suspect we'll have to wait another few months on top of that for the localization.

Wind Waker - Started slightly after Christmas, haven't played for a while.
Ikaruga - Hard as nails, but so gratifying
Super Mario Sunshine - I haven't played it yet, even though I got it around Christmas. I hope to play it after getting through Galaxy.
Games I want to play: Pretty much all of the Resident Evil Remakes. But I hope they come to Wii, with Resident Evil 4 controls.

Yes. Great game.
I'm not up to Wind Waker in my Zelda-in-order quest yet, so I've been playing Skies of Arcadia Legends on and off (while I'm not busy with Wii and DS games... and real life).

Wario World. Another Treasure game. It's alright. It's fun to play, but it feels like a task to play more than one level at a time. Also, I'm thinking of picking up Pikmin 2 again soon.
Really, I have a ton of games I want to play, but schoolwork is taking up most of my life, and my social life is kind of sprawling now, so there really isn't any time for video games, and when there is, it's mostly trying to get all the trophies in Brawl.

Right now I'm playing Paper Mario - The Thousand Year Door. This game is a lot of fun, 16 bucks well spent  I also bought Starfox: Assault and Turok: Evolution brand new for 13 bucks combined. I haven't played them yet but I will after Paper Mario.

I'm currently playing Virtua Quest, a game I couldn't find much information about even though it's in the Virtua series and (supposedly) developed by Sega AM2. I wanted to try it for myself to see why it wasn't more popular, so I bought it cheaply. It's an action/adventure/platform game with some RPG elements, a bit like Shenmue or Yakuza but not quite the same (and not as good!). If AM2 did develop it (I'm having some doubts because their name isn't on the box) it's not up to the usual standard from them, but it is growing on me the more I play so I'll let you know what I think when I've finished it. Has anyone played or heard of it?

Ditto! So far I have clocked up 118 hours- all games should have that
feature... I wonder if it is the longest amount of time I have devoted
to a game. How far can you get on a single credit? I'm currently reaching
Chapter 4-2 but it gets way too complicated inside the core with all the
lasers and whatnot!
Given the upcoming Wii drought, I think I should start on some of the
GC games I bought at Christmas(!)... probably Pikmin 2 and Skies of Arcadia.

Still playing Metroid Prime 2 and Zelda: WW. ON top of that, SSX on Tour and Wave Race Blue Storm get the occasional spin in the old Wii.
Played the original Metroid Prime to death now, and none of the old uni mates are here for beer- and banter-fuelled sessions of Soul Calibur II.
I keep promising myself to go back and play Eternal Darkness from the beginning, and to finally finish everything in F-Zero GX, but it doesn't happen. Mario Kart: DD hasn't seen much action since the DS and now Wii versions came out, which makes me guilty since I'm one of the few people who really liked it.
Maybe I'll go and play it now.

Here's an update on my Gamecube playings:
Just completed Super Mario 64 with 71 stars, and I'm close to getting 120 in Galaxy. I oredered Sunshine last Christmas, and I've been saving it for when I get those outta the way.
Still playing Ikaruga. Still loving it.
Haven't played Windwaker since before February I'd say. I needa get back to that, so I'll probably look at it again after exams.
My recent interest in shmups has led me to look for the best of GameCube shmups. Because Radirgy is being released on the Wii in the Milestone Shhoting Collection, I want to pick it up in that Iteration. However I have been looking for A Japanese Import copy of Shikigami no Shiro II. I know where I can get the Special Edition for £40, but I'd rather get the regular edition, too bad its out of stock everywhere, so I might have to buy the 'Special Edish'. First things first, I should probably get my hands on a GameCube Freeloader. And a Wii Freeloader for The MSC and Shikigami III. I wanna try to get the US version of Shikigami no Shiro III. Does anyone know if a US edition of Shikigami no Shiro II was released for the GameCube and if so, link on where to buy?
Got Alien Hominid on the GBA. It's really good. I would look into the GameCube version, but because I DO have an Xbox and it IS on XBLA, well, y'know...
And last but now least; I've been meaning to pick up a Thrustmaster VC controller for my Wii. Its supposed to be a good Wavebird substitute, and my current controller is a bit... wired. My seating apparatus is too far away from my Wii for the lead to reach (or even for the sensor bar to work properly) so a nice wireless GameCube controller would be great. Now that I mention it, I need a better sensor bar, with a further range... Any suggestions?
That's all for my GameCubings as of late.

As for the Sensor bar, that Nyko one did get great reviews from Screwattack, so perhaps it would be a good investment. I'll look for one in the UK.

Perhaps...
But I'd prefer to get a standard wired sensor bar with a better range, because although Wireless does sound convienent, they use batteries and so I might end up spending more in the long run.

If your Wii Remotes are still running on batteries too, consider to get recheargable ones.
On Topic: I got me Star Soldier for GameCube, and play it in tandem with Star Solder R on Wii.
Star Solder on GameCube is a remake of the NES original with 3D graphics and sounds, also featuring some changes and updates in the gameplay.

Actually, for my Wiimotes, I use the Joytech Charging stand. It sounds good to get a wireless sensor bar from Nyko, but I just needa know what type of batteries they use and how many. I've looked on google and some pages are listing it as AAA some are listing it as AA... Anyone know which is correct?

Just got Mega Man Anniversary Collection yesterday, I really love it! Sure, it's not GC exclusive, but still a great compilation of Mega Man games, especially while we don't get Mega Man games on the US VC! This time I'll beat Mega Man 2, I've never been able to do it on the 3 day rental on the NES ;).
As for a real GC game, I've almost finished Metroid Prime, I'll try finishing it this weekend so I can start playing Metroid Prime 2. I already own Metroid Prime 3, I REALLY want to play it, but not before finishing these two!
Last GC game that I finished was ... hmm... I'm pretty sure it was Freedom Fighters, great little game, though the graphics look really bad by today's standards.

I got PN 03 basically to collect, since I don't really like the gameplay (and I just paid 4 US$ :P) . I already started playing Wind Waker, and so far it's a really great game, I love it.
