I'm after another (first hand) GameCube controller for use on the Wii.
Are the Nintendo models still sold by anyone or can anyone recommend
a different brand?

This one (http://www.game.co.uk/Wii/Hardware/Accessory/~r329926/GAMEware-Nintendo-GameCube-Control-Pad-for-Nintendo-Wii-White/) caught my eye - looks to be the same shape as the original
and it is going for a decent price. What do you think?

thanks,

-m.

I've got two saved for Brawl when it comes out from my old Cube, but I was considering getting that one too. Looks good, sound price and my mate has it and has had no problems with it

Attractive prices indeed, but I find that pretty much no Third-party controllers stand even ground with Nintendo's controllers, from the N64 or Gamecube. Try playing some Tournament-grade Smash Bros Melee with one, you'll find yourself severely disappointed.

Yep, It's just that price tag that is drawing me! Plus I have £2.50 on
my reward card... but reading Serge's reply I don't think I'll rush into
it just yet. I found this on the nintendo store website- it's platinum!

But they only ship within the US. Booo. NOE don't have a store do they?

Hmm, I was worried that might be the case... I should probably have
a look around and see what kind of prices the second hand ones are
going for. Thanks.

Also, how are they at a disadvantage? Do you find they are not as
responsive or have a shorter life/ are less durable?

Most aren't as responsive if you're doing complicated button combinations, or hitting them in quick succession. That or the Analog sticks feel funny. (I can't think of a better way to describe it-I got a Pelican Third Party controller when I first got the Cube, and Wave-Race just didn't handle the same, still not sure exactly what it was.)

Mind you, I could be wrong for some companies. It's not like I've tried them all, but this is merely what I've seen from my experiences.

When it comes to controllers price usually equals quality. Controllers are one of the things I never buy as third party. Just because I want the controllers to last longer, money don't grow on trees you know...well they are made of wood, but you get the picture.

Since Nintendo's controllers aren't usually THAT expensive I would simply buy the real deal.

Why not a Wavebird? Goes well with N64 games on VC and it's wireless.

I know that one can order official Nintendo Gamecube controller's directly from NoA. I have no idea whether NoE is doing the same thing.

Wavebirds, jeez. I can't find any in stores anymore! I had to buy a wired one over the summer just because I couldn't find any Wavebirds, which are far superior for the Wii than the wired controllers.

The first cube controler you showed looks to fat and wouldn't be that good.

The Ninty Cube controller is one of my fav and most comfortable.

What are they like to hold? That chunky part in the middle looks like
it might have a really different feel to the original. Also, I only just found
out it does not support rumble feature so I reckon maybe it is not that
good an alternative... won't rule it out though.

Difficult to find here as well and a complete rip on eBay! I never understood
why the wavebird had a surge in popularity because it is wireless.
Where are people housing their Wii's that makes wireless so attractive!?

Maybe I am not looking properly but does NoE not a have a shop at all?
Seems weird as they would probably make a mint from Controllers...
especially if they put out a purely white one for the Wii, which would
be great.

After searching for ages for a reasonably priced wavebird, i gave up and bought the wirelss gamecube controller from GAME. To my surprise it was actually very good. Seemed very responsive and more comfortably than the official controller. It even has rumble (although i have it turned off to save battery life). Might be worth a look if you cant get a wavebird.

About the big chunky part, it have never disturbed my gaming but that's just my opinion since I don't know how other people wants it.

And since no VC game have rumble at the moment it makes a perfect N64 controller, it's useless for SNES though.

About the rumble for GCN, sure it feels strange in the beginning but after a while the lack of wire (which is very short for GCN) completely weigh up for the lack of rumble. If you can find one and afford it I would advise you to the Wavebird.

The only problem wired GC controllers have with the Wii is that most people have their Wii standing upright. Now, the Gamecube had the ports right up front, so there weren't too many problems. But with the ports at the top of the Wii, that cuts Wire-length a few inches and also bends the wires at the connector if you just keep them plugged in for a few days at a time.

Major suckage

Get the first party wireless pad. One of the best controllers I've ever layed hands on. Great battery life and fits the wireless theme for the Wii. Can't be too expensive these days either.

Wii's shouldn't stand upright, they'll make less noise when laying down, of course only when you have a disc inserted.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I eventually ended up buying one of those
nifty looking platinum controllers by Nintendo- it wasn't that bad a price
and the 3rd party option may have been false economy. Also, to solve the
wired problem (not being too crazy about the wavebird) I was also able
to find a 2m controller extension wire, which I've never seen before. Hope
it's oK quality.

Thanks again,

Actually (at least in the US) since a lot of stores carry very little (if any) GC stuff, the price of Wavebirds has gone up. I've seen auctions on Ebay in the $80-100 range.
