Fans of Hockey rejoice!
Starting soon SKY Sports will be showing games from the EIHL (Elite Ice Hockey League). They plan on showing 31 games on SS Extra and highlight shows too.
They're mainly going to be showing on a Thursday evening from about 5pm and will try to evenly show the 10 teams.
So if you're a fan, then take interest, and even if you've never been interested in Hockey before, now's the time to start your interest.
Maybe you never went because you didn't know you had a team, maybe you've just never been interested in it before.
Or maybe you had just heard the stereo type that it's all fighting and that for some unknown reason put you off. Which if it did, why? (I love watching a good punch up. Infact, would it be allowed to post a few youtube fights here? No idea if that classes under the violence rule)
I've never understood it. Especially when you consider that tons of people love Boxing. But put boxing on ice and take the gloves off, and all of a sudden it's a bad thing and people shun the sport because of it
People also complain that it's all fake. When it isn't. Watch a few games and you'll see why the enforcers come out and drop the gloves from time to time. There's some dirty players out there that need a good fisting to the face
The 10 teams in the EIHL are as follows.
The MobilX Vipers (Newcastle's team, but they're trying to become the team for the whole North East).
The Coventry Blaze.
The Hull Stingrays.
The Edinburgh Capitals.
The Basingstoke Bison.
The Cardiff Devils.
The Nottingham Panthers.
The Sheefiled Steelers.
The Belfast Giants.
And The Manchester Phoenix.
So as the season starts at the end of the month (And the friendly's start this weekend. Cheap entry fees usually for friendly games) get off your butt, take interest in this fantastic sport and cheer your heart out for the team in your area :D

If you can make it past the 1st period it all kicks off in the second, loads of fights.

Go giants! Went to see them play, their home arena is a 10 min drive from me lol.
My favourite hockey team is the detroit red wings though.
Not many people in this forum are sports fanatics lol, this section is dead. :lolo:

Ah, the Wings. How's Lidstrom? Lappy can't wait till the play offs, Chelios is next ;)
I'm the same though, I love my NHL team more than my EIHL team.
So happy that Sakic's back, and now, we've got FORSBERG!
No idea why he left (It was before I got into it properly), but SOOOO glad he's back.
All we need now is some D. Clarke was our best D man, and he'll be out for a LOOOONG time. Hannan is useless, no idea why we bought him. Liles was great last season, but this season... Not so much. I think he wants to leave Colorado, I don't think he's happy.
At least Leopold's still doing alright. Really underated guy IMO.

Sorry Demon, but I doubt you're going to see Forsberg make much of a difference this season. From the sounds of all reports, he can barely make it through a practice. I think he'd last a period of an actual game (so hope he can do a lot of scoring in that one period!). Too bad Sakic couldn't stay healthy this season, either. That guy is a hero.
I'm a Wings fan too. I'm really hoping we can get Lidstrom, Rafalski, Cleary, and Chelios healthy and get the team back on the rails before the playoffs start. At least Lidstrom should have the Norris in the bag, even with all of these missed games due to injury.

Well Fors played last night. No idea what he was like though.
I can't believe those ******* Kings though. That was awful what they done to Smyth. And Svatos got injured too.
Thing is, as I'm from the U.K, I don't have any team rivalries and the likes, so I just hate the teams I hate, for them being dirty teams that never seem to get called.
So I'm loving that you lot are on one hell of a losing streak :)
Hope to see Vancouver, Calgary and Anaheim do the same, as well as the Rangers :D

Yeah, that's what I mean, Forsberg might play well, but it won't be enough to make a difference with Smyth and Svatos out for essentially the rest of the season. :(
Detroit's a pretty clean classy team, except maybe Chelios, but Detroit and Colorado have had a pretty solid rivalry since the '90s, so fair play to you. :)
Dirtbag / boring teams I don't like are Rangers, Ducks, Sharks, and Stars. Boo.

You lot must just save it for us then
Because what with then owning everyone this season, I haven't bothered watching a Wings game that wasn't against us.
Yeah, I hate the Stars too. Mike Modano is a dirty ****!
And the Sharks have changed this season. I used to kinda like them. Shame.

As long as there is a hole in my **** I will hate the New York Rangers!
Also strongly dislike the Penguins, Flyers, Sens, Lightning and Toronto.
As for the West, I watched the Ducks vs Sens game the other night and the Ducks are in the same league as the Rangers when it comes to cheap shots and getting away with it and I cannot stand the Dallas Stars.
I think the likes of Chicago, St Louis and Columbus are boring to watch, same goes for Boston, Florida and Atlanta in the East.
As for the Wings and Av's. Well I prefer to watch the Av's as they are more exciting to watch than the Wings.
Bring on March 15th and Zach Parise's Hat Trick.

Well said panda...Devils are coming strong when it matters and Parise is just now starting to get the kudos he deserves. Think it's a year too soon for a run on the cup but next year, with a fit Langenbrunner from the start, we'll FLY.

It's never a year too soon for a run at the Cup with Brodeur in net. They just have to hit their stride and play with some character in the playoffs and they could go deep. Not that I want them to (ugh). :) But NJ is one of the scary teams in the East.

They're not scary. They have 3 players
March 15th the Avs are gonna own them :D
Even without Svatos and Smyth.
The Super Joe line is all we need :D

Parise's better...
We have to kick start our Powerplay or we'll not have a prayer in the playoffs this year.
Hopefully we'll pick up 2 points tonight in Toronto and can cement 1st place in the east. I'd love to see that, especially after out nightmare start

Poor old New Jersey sure has fallen out of contention in the East. I still think they're playoff monsters, though, so keep your eyes on them.
Colorado has done well for themselves since signing Forsberg. I don't think it'll be enough to keep them afloat against teams like San Jose and Anaheim once the playoffs begin, though.
In other news, a friend of mine and I have secured tickets to see a preliminary game between Canada and the USA at the IIHF World Championship tournament in Halifax in May. Should be a fun game!
